This is a reminder, sent out once a month, about your ietf.org mailing
list memberships. It includes your subscription info and how to use
it to change it or unsubscribe from a list.

You can visit the URLs to change your membership status or
configuration, including unsubscribing, setting digest-style delivery
or disabling delivery altogether (e.g., for a vacation), and so on.

In addition to the URL interfaces, you can also use email to make such
changes. For more info, send a message to the '-request' address of
the list (for example, agentx-request@ietf.org) containing just the
word 'help' in the message body, and an email message will be sent to
you with instructions.

            group or design team list, or any other list functioning
under IETF
            auspices,
        * the RFC Editor or the Internet-Drafts function

Statements made outside of an IETF meeting, mailing list or other

Hi,

I am trying to build AgentX extension which listens external events and
generates traps. For this I have written the function "my_function(<param
string>)", which for a now has the only functionality to add a line "<param
string>" to the log file each time this function was called.

I used the code of example_daemon.c from
www.net-snmp.org/tutorial-5/toolkit/demon/example-demon.c , and tried to add
a call my_finction() by the following way:

int main() {

	<...>

	init_agent("example_daemon");

	init_nstAgentSubagentObject();

	my_function("from main");

	init_snmp("example_daemon");

	my_function("from main");

	signal(<...>);
	signal(<...>);

	my_function("from main");

	while(<...>) {

 	<...>

}

Additional call my_function() was from init_nstAgentSubagentObject(), which
added the line "from init_nstAgentSubagentObject" to the same log file.

This code was compiled and linked with net-snmp-5.0.1 libraries. My agent
was successfully registered at the master agent (output of snmpd -Dagentx -f
-L gave no error messages), but at the log file I had only one line "from
init_nstAgentSubagentObject" which was added from
init_nstAgentSubagentObject(), i.e. there were no calls of my_function()
from the main.
Running snmpwalk over MIB region of this extension was successful.

Does anyone has explanation why there were no calls my_function() from main?

Thanks,
	Ellie.

Hi,

I am trying to build AgentX extension which listens external events and
generates traps. For this I have written the function "my_function(<param
string>)", which for a now has the only functionality to add a line "<param
string>" to the log file each time this function was called.

I used the code of example_daemon.c from
www.net-snmp.org/tutorial-5/toolkit/demon/example-demon.c , and tried to add
a call my_finction() by the following way:

int main() {

	<...>

	init_agent("example_daemon");

	init_nstAgentSubagentObject();

	my_function("from main");

	init_snmp("example_daemon");

	my_function("from main");

	signal(<...>);
	signal(<...>);

	my_function("from main");

	while(<...>) {

 	<...>

}

Additional call my_function() was from init_nstAgentSubagentObject(), which
added the line "from init_nstAgentSubagentObject" to the same log file.

This code was compiled and linked with net-snmp-5.0.1 libraries. My agent
was successfully registered at the master agent (output of snmpd -Dagentx -f
-L gave no error messages), but at the log file I had only one line "from
init_nstAgentSubagentObject" which was added from
init_nstAgentSubagentObject(), i.e. there were no calls of my_function()
from the main.
Running snmpwalk over MIB region of this extension was successful.

Does anyone has explanation why there were no calls my_function() from main?

Thanks,
	Ellie.

Glad to hear it. But if you encounter future problems with the
Net-SNMP software's implementation of AgentX, please don't ask about
them on the AgentX working group mailing list, as they're slightly off
topic (unless they're questions about the generic protocol). Instead,
write to Net-SNMP-users@lists.sf.net.

Hi,

I want to use the AgentX framework to build a subagent. I was looking at the code in the /net-snmp/agent/mibgroup/agentx directory, which is part of the net-snmp 5.0.8 package. I also went through RFC 2741.
I'm still not clear how to go about building a subagent. Can someone please point me in the right direction ?

Thanks,
Sriram

If you want help with the code related to the Net-SNMP package, I'd
suggest you look at their site for the documentation (specifically,
you might start with the toolkit tutorial that provides agentx
examples at http://www.net-snmp.org/tutorial-5/toolkit/ ). For issues
with respect to how the protocol itself works, this is the proper
place to ask questions.

Hi,

I have written an agent for the 802.11 MIB and I tried to attach it using the subagent framework.
% net-snmp-config --compile-subagent 802dot11subagent ieee802dot11Power.c
This is the log -

% ./802dot11subagent &
