Hello,

In draft-ietf-autoconf-manetarch-01 a node is defined as "any device
(router or host) that implements IP" and a MANET node is defined as "a
MANET node embodies a MANET router and zero or more hosts".

If I understand correctly, a "node" is a single physical device (with
a single MAC address), while a "MANET node" is a network of physical
devices (hosts) connected in a star-topology fashion to a single MANET
router.

I find it very confusing that the terminology of a node is "borrowed"
to define a "MANET node", which is actually not a single, but
potentially many nodes.

Greetings,
Dominik

Actually No, "MANET node" is not defined to mean potentially many nodes.
Also, above MANET node definition does not include network aspect;
it only says that host(s) may or may not be connected to a MANET router,
which could have one or more physical/logical interfaces.

If you look at Figure 1 it is a little more explicit. That said, I
agree the text is a little unclear. We are in the process of cleaning
it up, and the next revision will be more explicit.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.
This draft is a work item of the Ad-Hoc Network Autoconfiguration Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Mobile Ad hoc Network Architecture
	Author(s)	: I. Chakeres, et al.
	Filename	: draft-ietf-autoconf-manetarch-02.txt
	Pages : 20
	Date : 2007-5-31

This document discusses Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs). It
introduces basic MANET terms, characteristics, and challenges. This
document also defines several MANET entities and architectural
   concepts.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-autoconf-manetarch-02.txt

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a message to
i-d-announce-request@ietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the body of
the message.
You can also visit https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the
username "anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After
logging in, type "cd internet-drafts" and then
"get draft-ietf-autoconf-manetarch-02.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-autoconf-manetarch-02.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.
