Hi,

This is an automatic notification about a new datatracker release,
v2.32, generated when running the mkrelease script.

Release notes:

ietfdb (2.32)
  * Make the 1wg-charters.txt page stable, not changing dependent on the
order in which the database backend returns records.
  * Various fixes to the new charter page generation. Removed the area
prefix for secretaries (secretaries aren't area secretaries, they're
secretaries to the group). Added tech advisors and WG editors.
    Fixed html for secretary lists.
  * Fixed link in Slides model (should be moved to templates, I suspect)
which has changed since ietf-74. Todo: Should be made consistent in
the archives, or failing that, be dependent on the meeting number
    (ugh!).
  * Show correct days-in-state information (hopefully). From Pasi.
  * Cleaning of IPR disclosure submission form internals
to simplify Django 1.0 transition. From Jelte and Pasi.
  * Make WG summary available also with the same name as before
(1wg-summary.txt). Fix the template to more closely match
the old layout, for screenscraping scripts.
  * Make Django testing framework work again. From Pasi.
  * Minor fixes to bugs found by the testing framework. From Pasi.
  * Replaced /liaison/managers/ with redirect to static page
    on www.ietf.org. From Pasi.

The new version is available through SVN checkout, with
  'svn checkout http://svn.tools.ietf.org/svn/tools/ietfdb/tags/2.32'

Regards,

	Henrik

Do we have a working plan yet?

It's my understanding that we now have Django replacements for all of
the old perl scripts. Does anyone have a good feel for what the next
steps are? Do we know what will be useful to work on in Hiroshima?

Hi,

This is an automatic notification about a new datatracker release,
v2.33, generated when running the mkrelease script.

Release notes:

ietfdb (2.33)
  From Pasi <pasi.eronen@nokia.com>:
  * Added narrative minutes template
  * New script for comparing output from Django 0.96 vs 1.x
  * Added a bunch of safe/escape tags for Django 1.x
  * Handle persons with non-ASCII names correctly in Django 1.x
  * Improve test coverage for meeting/, idrfc/
  * Multiple bugfixes for days-in-state information
  * Avoid using IDInternal.documentcomment_set -- it breaks in Django 1.x
because the foreign key isn't really a foreign key
  * Fix author name (Unicode) and pubdate (datetime vs. date) for Django 1.x
  * Use IDInternal.comments method to avoid foreign key problems; support
    Unicode in jsonify_helper
  * Comment out unused permission code (causes test failures on Django 1.x)
  * Fixes so test suite runs better on Django 1.x
  * Make IPR form work with both Django 0.96 and 1.x
  From Henrik:
  * Return 404 not found when the wg acronym given as part of a wg charter
    URL can't be found.
  * Sometimes a documents lc_sent_date is None; don't let the last-call
    feed break if that happens.
  * Add debian-style control file with metainformation.

The new version is available through SVN checkout, with
  'svn checkout http://svn.tools.ietf.org/svn/tools/ietfdb/tags/2.33'

Regards,

	Henrik

Well.. I think we have Django replacements for all old Perl scripts
that generated static HTML pages from cron jobs. But we do have lots
of other kinds of old Perl code that still needs to be replaced
eventually; for example, various password-protected CGI scripts like
Meeting Session Requester and Meeting Materials Manager (for WG
chairs), Liaison Statement Manager (for WG chairs and liaisons), the
IESG I-D Tracker (for IESG/secretariat), and a lot of tools that are
used only by the secretariat. And there are some miscellaneous
scripts, like expiring Internet-Drafts after 6 months.

The password-protected tools aren't perhaps an ideal topic for the
code sprint, since many participants aren't in the intended user=20
group (and don't have access to the current tool).

Some things on my "things it'd be nice to do" list include:

- Moving to Django 1.1 (although this might be almost ready=20
  before Hiroshima)
- Improve coverage of the test suite (which has proved really
useful when testing with Django 1.0/1.1)
- Finalizing the "new per-draft tracker page" (see e.g.
  https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-ipfix-file/), and
removing the code for the old one.
- Looking at the authentication/authorization code, and getting it=20
working in some way (depends on some currently ongoing discussions...)
- Moving IESG balloting code to Django (as the first piece of=20
  password-protected functionality -- obviously, there's a lot more)
- Figuring out what needs to be done to retire the Perl scripts that=20
generate various views of the IESG agenda. One piece was already=20
  rewritten in Django (https://datatracker.ietf.org/iesg/agenda/),
but this mess turned out to have more pieces and a spaghetti=20
  of dependencies...
- Moving old liaison statements from the hardcoded template: see=20
  http://trac.tools.ietf.org/tools/ietfdb/browser/branch/2.00/ietf/template=
s/liaisons/liaisondetail_list.html and scroll down to see what I mean...
- Doing something about mailing list search.
- Figuring out if we can retire (instead of replacing) the "Mailing=20
List Request Tool" and "Non-WG Mailing List Submission Page" tools =20

I'm working on some of these currently, but obviously only some small
part of these will happen before Hiroshima.

Henrik, is there something related to the database redesign
we could do?

Best regards,
Pasi

Hi,

There are a lot of good topics in Pasi's post, below. For now I've
put up just a few items on the Sprint wiki page, but we can modify
that at will.

I think the most important things I'd like to accomplish this sprint
is

	1. Get us moved over to Django 1.0 or 1.1

	2. Get people coding new stuff against the new data-structures.

Obviously, the latter requires that there are new data-structures
and models in place, at least enough of them that we can start some
coding. I hope to have some models changed so that they will work with
both the old and new tables before Hiroshima; if so it should be possible
to move forward to point 2 above. If not, we will need a fallback
topic.

I don't want to focus only on the old scripts; we all need some of the
joy of creating new features!

One possibility once the 1.0/1.1 transition is done is to do some
1.x Admin-Site tweaks. The 1.x Django Admin-Site is much more extensible
than the 0.96 one, and it is possible that customised admin pages may
replace some of the remaining perl scripts, with minimal effort.
