Title: Raptor FEC Schemes for FECFRAME
Creation_date: 2008-07-07
WG ID: Independent Submission
Number_of_pages: 19

Abstract:
This document describes Fully-Specified Forward Error Correction
(FEC) Schemes for the Raptor code and its application to reliable
delivery of media streams in the context of FEC Framework. The
Raptor code is a systematic code, where a number of repair symbols
are generated from a set of source symbols and sent in one or more
repair flows in addition to the source symbols that are sent to the
receiver(s) within a source flow. The Raptor code offers a close to
optimal protection against arbitrary packet losses at a low
computational complexity. Two FEC Schemes are defined, one for
protection of arbitrary packet flows and another for protection of a
single flow that already contains a sequence number. Repair data may
be sent over arbitrary datagram transport (e.g. UDP) or using RTP.
An RTP Payload Type is defined for this latter case.

Title: DVB Application-Layer Hybrid FEC Protection
Creation_date: 2008-07-07
WG ID: Independent Submission
Number_of_pages: 10

Abstract:
This document describes the Application-layer Forward Error Correction
(FEC) protocol that was developed by the Digital Video Broadcasting
(DVB) consortium for the protection of media streams over IP networks.
The DVB AL-FEC protocol uses two layers for FEC protection. The first
(base) layer is based on the 1-D interleaved parity code. The second
(enhancement) layer is based on the Raptor code. Since both of these
codes have already been specified in separate documents, the current
document does not define the details of these codes but provides the
references to the respective specifications. By offering a layered
approach, the DVB AL-FEC offers a good protection against both bursty
and random packet losses at a cost of decent complexity.

draft-begen-fecframe-interleaved-fec-scheme-00

A new version of I-D, draft-begen-fecframe-interleaved-fec-scheme-00.txt
has been successfuly submitted by Ali Begen and posted to the IETF
repository.

Filename: draft-begen-fecframe-interleaved-fec-scheme
Revision: 00
Title: 1-D Interleaved Parity FEC Scheme for FEC Framework
Creation_date: 2008-07-07
WG ID: Independent Submission
Number_of_pages: 26

Abstract:
This document describes a Fully-Specified Forward Error Correction
(FEC) Scheme for the one-dimensional (1-D) interleaved parity code and
its application to reliable delivery of media streams in the context of
FEC Framework. The 1-D interleaved parity code is a systematic code,
where a number of repair symbols are generated from a set of source
symbols and sent in one or more repair flows in addition to the source
symbols that are sent to the receiver(s) within a source flow. The 1-D
interleaved parity code offers a good protection against bursty packet
losses at a cost of decent complexity. This document extends the FEC
header defined in RFC 2733 and registers a new RTP payload format for
the FEC that is generated by the 1-D interleaved parity code from a
source media encapsulated in RTP. This new payload format is compatible
with and used as a part of the DVB Application-layer FEC Specification.

A new version of I-D, draft-kozat-fecframe-pseudo-cdp-00.txt has been
successfuly submitted by Ali Begen and posted to the IETF repository.

Filename: draft-kozat-fecframe-pseudo-cdp
Revision: 00
Title: Pseudo Content Delivery Protocol (CDP) for Protecting
Multiple Source Flows in FEC Framework
Creation_date: 2008-07-07
WG ID: Independent Submission
Number_of_pages: 13

Abstract:
This document provides a pseudo Content Delivery Protocol (CDP) to
protect multiple source flows with one or more repair flows based on
the FEC Framework document and the Session Description Protocol (SDP)
elements defined for the framework. The purpose of the document is
not to provide a full-pledged protocol, but to show how the defined
framework and SDP elements can be combined together to design a CDP.

All,

I will also be submitting an update to the Framework draft. The primary new
issue there will be some text on the use of RTP as a transport for repair
flows by FEC Schemes. We discussed this at the previous meetings and there
has been some discussion on the list. Of course any FEC Scheme is already
free to specify that its repair packets contain RTP headers without
modification to the framework, but since this looks like it will be a common
requirement I think some framework-level text will be valuable, perhaps even
defining a common component which can be used by FEC Schemes to handle the
RTP encapsulation of the repair flows ?

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the FEC Framework Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Forward Error Correction (FEC) Framework
	Author(s) : M. Watson
	Filename : draft-ietf-fecframe-framework-02.txt
	Pages : 35
	Date : 2008-07-12

This document describes for a framework for using forward error
correction (FEC) codes with applications in public and private IP
networks to provide protection against packet loss. The framework
supports applying Forward Error Correction to arbitrary packet flows
over unreliable transport and is primarily intended for real-time, or
streaming, media. This framework can be used to define Content
Delivery Protocols that provide Forward Error Correction for
streaming media delivery or other packet flows. Content Delivery
Protocols defined using this framework can support any FEC Scheme
(and associated FEC codes) which is compliant with various
requirements defined in this document. Thus, Content Delivery
Protocols can be defined which are not specific to a particular FEC
Scheme and FEC Schemes can be defined which are not specific to a
particular Content Delivery Protocol.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the FEC Framework Working Group of the IETF.

Title : SDP Elements for FEC Framework
	Author(s) : A. Begen
	Filename : draft-ietf-fecframe-sdp-elements-01.txt
	Pages : 21
	Date : 2008-07-13

This document specifies the use of Session Description Protocol (SDP)
to describe the parameters required to signal the Forward Error
Correction (FEC) Framework Configuration Information between the
sender(s) and receiver(s). This document also provides the semantics
for grouping multiple source and repair flows together for the
applications that simultaneously use multiple instances of the FEC
Framework.

Thanks to those who participated today. We actually made significant
progress on a number of issues, which exposed the need to progress
some other issues as well.

Magnus has given us the approval (or did he task us?) to have an
interim FECFrame working group meeting before Minneapolis to
specifically work on FECFrame framework and transport issues.

Here are three proposed dates. Please respond to the list with your
preference, your home location to help us choose something relatively
central.

Sept 15 week (early)
Sept 22 week (early)
Oct 20 week

Let's work to get this scheduled quickly to ensure we can fit this
into our rapidly filling schedules.

Thanks again,
Greg

Since I did not have time to prepare slides on this for the meeting, I
thought I would send this to
the list to inform people who were not able to be present about what
is going on.

There has been a series of discussions about the
obsoleting of RFC 2733 by RFC 5109, and the effects of that on the
SMPTE 2022-1 standard,
which uses RFC 2733 as a normative reference. As a result of these
discussions, we
will move to "unobsolete" RFC2733, with Colin Perkins, Magnus
Westerlund and
myself taking the lead on that.

I think that this has helped our image in these standards bodies and
look forward in working with the VSF and SMPTE to
meet the needs of high rate HD video.

Regards
Marshall
