Subject: Updating RFC 4756

Hi everyone,

Given that RFC 3388 is currently being updated upon the request of
FECframe WG, we believe we can move on and make the necessary changes in
RFC 4756 with the new features we support in FEC framework.

For those who are wondering what I am talking about, please see:
http://www.ietf.org/proceedings/08mar/slides/mmusic-8.pdf
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-begen-mmusic-fec-grouping-issues-00

I am suggesting we update 4756 based on our needs (we can come up with a
new grouping attribute or semantics). I would like to hear the WG's and
chairs' comments on this.

Thanks.
-acbegen

Well, as expected there's no one week that works for everyone. Sorry
if the chosen week doesn't work for you. I propose the week of Sept 15
in the Bay Area. To help those traveling from the east coast, we can
start on Sept 16 and schedule three days. Here's the list of those who
responded with an okay for this week:

Dave Oran
Marshall Eubanks
Mark Watson
Stephan Wenger
Magnus Westerlund
Greg Shepherd

All others are obviously welcome, these are just the responders. If
you are on this list can you please confirm for Sept 16-18, California
(Bay Area). We can then target a host.

Thanks,
Greg

I would actually prefer starting on the 15th, either in the AM (I'd =

fly in Sunday night), or after lunch, since I can easily get into SFO =

by 11AM.

One logistical problem I have is that Tuesday morning is tied up with =

a meeting I have up in Petaluma, so I'd miss =BD day. If that's a big =

problem (I assume it isn't since I'm not one of the core fecframe =

cogniscenti) an alternative would be to go Tuesday PM through Thursday =

AM. I need to be in in LA by late afternoon on Thursday, so, noon =

would be a hard stop for me.

That said, I'll be able to show up for most of the meeting.

Great. I'd prefer to start on Monday the 15th as well, as I have other
responsibilities on the 18th which will require me to leave some time
on the 17th.

If there are no significant objections to a Monday start we'll go with that.

Thanks,

I'm certain I'll be able to find adequate and open space for this
meeting at Cisco SJ, but since Cisco has hosted two of the design team
meetings I don't want to jump in here unless no other options arise.
I'd like to give the rest of the group adequate opportunity to step
up.

So if any of you have access to meeting space in the bay area and are
willing to arrange and host, please let us know soon.

Thanks,
Greg

Chairs,

As the authors, we would like the following drafts to be adopted by the
WG.

http://www.tools.ietf.org/id/draft-begen-fecframe-interleaved-fec-scheme
-00.txt
http://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-begen-fecframe-dvb-al-fec-00.txt

These are the drafts we need for the DVB AL-FEC protocol. Could you open
a vote in the list?

Thanks,
-acbegen

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the FEC Framework Working Group of the IETF.

Title : RTP Payload Format for 1-D Interleaved Parity FEC
	Author(s) : A. Begen
	Filename : draft-ietf-fecframe-interleaved-fec-scheme-00.txt
	Pages : 29
	Date : 2008-08-29

This document defines a new RTP payload format for the Forward Error
Correction (FEC) that is generated by the 1-D interleaved parity code
from a source media encapsulated in RTP. The 1-D interleaved parity
code is a systematic code, where a number of repair symbols are
generated from a set of source symbols and sent in a repair flow
separate from the source flow that carries the source symbols. The
1-D interleaved parity code offers a good protection against bursty
packet losses at a cost of decent complexity. The new payload format
defined in this document is compatible with and used as a part of the
DVB Application-layer FEC Specification.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the FEC Framework Working Group of the IETF.

Title : DVB Application-Layer Hybrid FEC Protection
	Author(s) : A. Begen, T. Stockhammer
	Filename : draft-ietf-fecframe-dvb-al-fec-00.txt
	Pages : 10
	Date : 2008-08-29

This document describes the Application-layer Forward Error
Correction (FEC) protocol that was developed by the Digital Video
Broadcasting (DVB) consortium for the protection of media streams
over IP networks. The DVB AL-FEC protocol uses two layers for FEC
protection. The first (base) layer is based on the 1-D interleaved
parity code. The second (enhancement) layer is based on the Raptor
code. By offering a layered approach, the DVB AL-FEC offers a good
protection against both bursty and random packet losses at a cost of
decent complexity. The 1-D interleaved parity code and Raptor code
have already been specified in separate documents and the current
document normatively references these specifications.
