frnetmibers,

I just received word that frnetmib has been moved from Monday to Tuesday at
1300-1515, due to other conflicts that needed to be juggled. The good news
is that we've gained an extra 15 minutes!

PS - please keep those agenda requests coming.

Thanks,
Andy

I have posted new drafts to the I-D editor. These drafts reflect changes
made in response to comments received from the IESG review process. The FRS
MIB has the most substantial changes.

To aid in evaluation of the changes I have created a color coded DIFF report
that shows, line-by-line, which lines have changed since the last version.
This .pdf report as well as the .txt file sent to the I-D editor can be
found in:

ftp://ftp.visualnetworks.com/Pub/IETF/draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.zip
ftp://ftp.visualnetworks.com/Pub/IETF/draft-ietf-frnetmib-atmiwf-05.zip

Both MIBs have passed smicng compilation using the latest version of the
smicng compiler.

Regards,
Ken

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Frame Relay Service MIB Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Definitions of Managed Objects for Frame Relay Service
	Author(s)	: K. Rehbehn, D. Fowler
	Filename	: draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.txt
	Pages : 89
	Date : 09-Mar-00

This memo defines an extension to the Management Information Base
(MIB) for use with network management protocols in TCP/IP-based
internets. In particular, it defines objects for managing the frame
relay service.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.txt

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

Subject: (FRNETMIB) Technical Error - frLportFragSize range in draft-ietf-frnetmib-fr

As I was examining the RFC-Editor bound draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.txt I
noticed a technical error. The size range for a single fragment
frLportFragSize exceeds the accepted limit for the FCS defined in Q.922. We
should use the same size range (1..4096) as the other max frame size objects
(e.g. frPVCEndptInMaxFrameSize).

I would like to see an RFC-Editor instruction to make this change. Comments
to the list to determine consensus or identify problems would be
appreciated.

Regards,
Ken

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Frame Relay Service MIB Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Definitions of Managed Objects for Monitoring and
Controlling the UNI/NNI Multilink Frame Relay Function
	Author(s)	: P. Pate, K. Rehbehn, B. Lynch
 	Filename	: draft-ietf-frnetmib-mfrmib-01.txt
	Pages : 38
	Date : 16-Mar-00

This memo defines a Management Information Base (MIB) for monitoring
and controlling a UNI/NNI Multilink Frame Relay Function as defined
in Frame Relay Forum FRF.16. This MIB also include conformance and
notification information.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-frnetmib-mfrmib-01.txt

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-frnetmib-mfrmib-01.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-frnetmib-mfrmib-01.txt".

Hi
I want to know about following variables from RFC1604 what it means and
what are the possible values
- In frLportTable what is the value used for frLportVCSigPointer
  - In frAccountPVCTable what does it mean by frAccountPVCSegmentSize
  - In frAccountLportTable what does it mean by frAccountLportSegmentSize
Thanks in advance
Taher

This object has been marked "Obsolete" in
draft-ieft-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.txt. My belief is that the RFC 1604
anticipated multiple types of PVC signaling schemes, each with a distinct
table of configuration parameters. The reality has been that we have a
single table for signaling parameters.

Each vendor has their own interpetation of what OBJECT IDENTIFIER gets
plugged in as a value but I suspect that the OID for frMgtVCSigTable would
make the most sense.

> - In frAccountPVCTable what does it mean by frAccountPVCSegmentSize
> - In frAccountLportTable what does it mean by frAccountLportSegmentSize

Usage-based accounting techniques for packet networks frequently report
"segment" counts, where a segment represents 1 to N octets of payload. If N
is 5000 and the connection flows 15500 octets then the segment count I get
billed for is 3 (depending on the tariff rules - I could get billed for 4 if
the tariff says round-up). The segment size establishes the value N.

make the most sense.

Check the enhanced DESCRIPTION clause for the frMgtVCSigProced in
draft-ieft-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.txt. I believe I answer the question you ask
and, if you need more information about the various ways of operating the
status procedures, I added a REFERENCE pointer to the base documents that
describe the procedures.

Cheers,
Ken

Draft Frame Relay Service MIB WG (frnetmib) Minutes

Tuesday, March 28, 1300-1515
============================

Chair: Andy Malis <amalis@lucent.com>
Minutes by Andy Malis

1. Administrivia, current documents status

Andy presented the agenda and the current status of the documents. The
only active WG document that was not already on the agenda was
draft-ietf-frnetmib-atmiwf-05.txt, which is waiting for the Frame Relay
Service MIB to complete due to cross-references - otherwise, it is ready to
be published as an RFC.

2. Rob Steinberger and Orly Nicklass,
    draft-ietf-frnetmib-frmrelay-service-00.txt, Definitions of Managed
Objects for Frame Relay Service Level Definitions

See:
http://www.frforum.com/5000/Approved/FRF.13/frf13.pdf
http://search.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-frnetmib-frmrelay-service-
00.txt

Rob presented the open issues from the last meeting. To address them, the
document was renamed, he detailed the delay data from the sample table, got
an IANA experimental ID (104), and added a capabilities object to identify
which objects can be written. He also cleaned up some typos, fixed a
problem in the nroff file, and some other minor changes, such as a
revisions section to the MODULE, and added working group info to the
contact list.

The current open issues are:
- typo in section 2.7.1: "dive" should be "divide"
- SmplIndex should be SmplControlIndex for consistent naming
- some objects have Data in their name twice to match the terminology in
FRF.13. We could change it, but it wouldn't match FRF.13. We decided to
not change it.

Rob asked for WG last call for Proposed Standard. Ken Rehbehn felt that it
should be experimental rather than PS, due to other ongoing work on service
tracking MIBs. He said that it would be premature at this time to make it
a Proposed Standard, until the IETF has a more mature service tracking
framework. Thomas Narten said that it could be experimental for now, and
it wouldn't be a big deal to change it to PS later on down the line. Peter
Bodeit said that having it PS would help network operators, since it would
be easier to get the functionality from vendors. It was also noted that
there is currently no WG home for the service tracking MIB work. The WG
consensus was to go for PS and revisit the issue when it comes time to
advance the MIB to Draft Standard, to see if it needs updating based upon
activities elsewhere in the IETF. Thomas gave advice on how to get an
assignment in the MIB II branch (you make it clear in the MIB text that the
assignment is required).

3. Prayson Pate, Bob Lynch, and Ken Rehbehn,
    draft-ietf-frnetmib-mfrmib-01.txt,
Definitions of Managed Objects for Monitoring and Controlling the
    UNI/NNI Multilink Frame Relay Function

See:
http://www.frforum.com/5000/Approved/FRF.16/frf16.pdf
http://search.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-frnetmib-mfrmib-00.txt

Version -01, the current version, was sent out on 3/17. The authors would
like to go to next week's FRF meeting, collect any comments there, and then
ask for last call. Changes from last time were:
- minor formatting fixes
- added ranges, REFERENCE, and UNITs where needed
- returned a deleted object, the number of links in a bundle
- clarified dependencies of the creation operation.

There is no more functionality that should be added. It's had about three
spins for review.

Orly had some comments and questions on the MIB that she will send to the
email list.

It will go for last call following the FRF meeting and the resolution of
Orly's comments.

4. Ken Rehbehn, recent updates to draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.txt,
Definitions of Managed Objects for Frame Relay Service

    See:
    http://search.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-10.txt

This MIB completed WG last call on 11/30, the IESG last call issued 12/8,
Erik Nordmark's comments came on 12/30, Dave Perkin's comments came on 1/5,
and a new revision was issued on 3/8.

The minor changes from -09 were: many editorial modifications, completeness
of REFERENCES, size ranges, move comments into DESCRIPTION clauses, and
combined the lists of changes since RFC 1604 into a single complete list.

More significant changes: removed the "stack" picture, which was replaced
by more explicit text; removed the frLportVCSigPointerAdmin object; changed
the notification OBJECT IDENTIFIER to avoid conflict with the obsolete
trap; and reorganized the compliance groups.

Ken gave a comprehensive description of the changes in the compliance groups.

Andy discussed the fact that since new requirements have been added to the
compliance groups, the FR service MIB will most probably have to recycled
at Proposed rather than advanced to Draft. This is mostly a result of the
new frPVCConnectStatusNotif NOTIFICATION.

There is one last issue that needs resolution: frLportFragSize Integer32
(0..8184) will be changed to have a maximum size of 4096 to make it
consistent with other MIBs.

Ken's question: should he spin a new draft with these changes, and should
there be second WG last call? We felt a second WG last call was not
necessary. Ken is going to spin a version -11 to have a clean text for the
IESG and the RFC Editor.

5. Open discussion

With no further discussion, we adjourned.

All,

We were requested to submit a draft that allows DLCIs to be treated as
interfaces. This will allow frame relay interworking with RMON at the
circuit level.

The draft will do the following:

  1. Show the mapping of the DLCI ifIndex to the OID of the DLCI from
either the endpoint or circuit tables of the Service or DTE MIB.
  2. Show the mapping of the DLCI from either the endpoint or circuit
tables to the DLCI ifIndex (inverse mapping).
  3. Allow users to select with DLCIs will have ifIndices generated for
them such that we only have ifIndices for the RMON monitored DLCIs.
  4. Explain how the objects in the interface table work for a DLCI.
  5. Explain how the stack table works for the new ifIndex.

I will submit a draft shortly.

Are there any objections or additions to this work?

All,

The authors of Definitions of Managed Objects for Frame Relay Service
Level Definitions (
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-frnetmib-frmrelay-service-00.txt
) feel that it is ready for working group last call.

The current issues with the document are:

   * We will request IANA find the correct home for this document
outside of experimental when it is submitted to the RFC Editor.
This will be done with a clearly defined comment where the
     experimental location currently lives.
   * typo in section 2.7.1: "dive" should be "divide"
   * frsldSmplIdx should be frsldSmplCtrlIdx for consistent naming

These will be handled along with any changes found in working group last
call.

This begins WG last call on draft-ietf-frnetmib-frmrelay-service-00.txt, to
conclude 4/19. I'm giving it three weeks due to us still being at the
IETF, next week's Frame Relay Forum meeting, and the Frame Relay 2000 event
in Berlin the week after. As always, comments to the list.

Thanks,
Andy
