Samu,
I reviewed this draft, compared it with the RFC, and found some small edito=
rial differences (perhaps applied by the RFC Editor) that should be reappli=
ed, in my opinion. Also, the document should point to the bis version of =
RFC5201. I'll send those to you off list. Other than that, I do not think=
any changes are needed and I think that this is ready for WGLC.

Hi Samu,

I have reviewed the draft as well. I just have a couple
questions/comments about Section 3. Other than this I think this is
ready to move forward.

Section 3, Paragraph 1:
Why do you use normative MUSTs for the Issuer and Subject Alternative
Names? Is it because these certificates would not otherwise have
Distinguished Names? If you could add a sentence about the rationale
behind these MUSTs, that would be helpful. It is not clear why I
might have the situation described in paragraph 1 versus paragraph 2.

Section 3, Paragraph 3:
Can the MUST be changed to a SHOULD? I ask because a remote peer may
be pre-configured with the CA chain, and is therefore unnecessary to
send the intermediate CAs.

Thank you,
David

Hi,

as you know, we are preparing the publication request for 4843bis,
5201bis, and 5202bis. The two former drafts have references to work in
progress that has expired years ago. Do we want to keep those references
in the drafts (see below)?

Thanks,

Gonzalo

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the Host Identity Protocol Working Group of t=
he IETF.

Title : Host Mobility with the Host Identity Protocol
	Author(s) : Thomas R. Henderson
                          Christian Vogt
                          Jari Arkko
	Filename : draft-ietf-hip-rfc5206-bis-06.txt
	Pages : 33
	Date : 2013-07-15

Abstract:
This document defines mobility extensions to the Host Identity
Protocol (HIP). Specifically, this document defines a general
"LOCATOR_SET" parameter for HIP messages that allows for a HIP host
to notify peers about alternate addresses at which it may be reached.
This document also defines elements of procedure for mobility of a
HIP host -- the process by which a host dynamically changes the
primary locator that it uses to receive packets. While the same
LOCATOR_SET parameter can also be used to support end-host
multihoming, detailed procedures are out of scope for this document.
   This document obsoletes RFC 5206.

Hi,

ID nits complains about the following in 4843bis. These nits need to be
fixed before we request the publication of the draft:

http://tools.ietf.org/idnits?url=http://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-ietf-hip-rfc4843-bis-04.txt

== Unused Reference: 'Hi3' is defined on line 433, but no explicit
reference was found in the text

== Unused Reference: 'NodeID' is defined on line 443, but no explicit
reference was found in the text

-- Obsolete informational reference (is this intentional?): RFC 4773
     (Obsoleted by RFC 6890)

ID nits also complains about 5201bis. Could the authors please have a
look at this output and fix whatever needs to be fixed?

http://tools.ietf.org/idnits?url=http://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-ietf-hip-rfc5201-bis-12.txt

And the same for 5202bis:

http://tools.ietf.org/idnits?url=http://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-ietf-hip-rfc5202-bis-03.txt

Thanks,

Gonzalo

Folks,

one of the questions we need to answer when requesting the publication
of the bis specs is the following:

> Are there existing implementations of the protocol? Have a significant
> number of vendors indicated their plan to implement the specification?

If you could send me an update on your implementation, or third-party
implementations you are aware of, that would be great. In particular, it
would be good to know which implementers intend to update their
implementations to comply with the Standards Track bis specs (as opposed
to implementations that are no being actively maintained any longer).

Thanks,

Gonzalo

HIP for Linux has already taken steps to update it's implementation.
While some things remain to be updated (e.g. DNS proxy support), RWTH
Aachen contributed ECDSA code and Xin Gu has implemented ECDH and other
HIPv2 extensions. The latter part is still in the merging queue, but
will be merged during the summer. During the transition, HIPL is going
to support both HIPv1 and HIPv2.

Xin Gu's work has been documented here:

http://nordsecmob.aalto.fi/en/publications/theses_2012/gu-xin_thesis.pdf

His work also included extending HIP as an application-layer library. We
mostly use it for loopback regression testing of the implementation.

Hi Bob,

following up on this old IPR disclosure, even though the spec now
mandates a co-factor of 1, I have not seen any updated to the IPR
disclosure. Do you know anything else about this? What about the other
two patents referenced in the disclosure?

Thanks,

Gonzalo

Hi,

5202bis needs to have the Obsoletes information in its title header and
its Abstract, and ideally also in its Introduction. Could the authors
please add that information in the next revision of the draft?

Thanks,

Gonzalo
