Hi all,

the SAMRG meeting is now (tentatively) scheduled:

Thursday, Afternoon Session I 1300-1500
Room Name: Karlin II & III

If not done so, please let us know about your presentation or demo requests.

We should also reserve some time and thoughts to future steps and goals.
Currently, we have continuous work on

  * reload-coordinated group communication + conferencing
  * URI-based multicast sockets + a Common API
  * Multicast address translation (emerging in Beijing)
  * XCastv2 (recently quiet)

We also had some presentations on transport-layer multicast ideas.

Please, (prospective) authors share your thoughts on the mailing list
and in the meeting.

See you in Prague!

John & Thomas

Hi folks,

we submitted an updated version of the draft "A Common API for
Transparent Hybrid Multicast". It includes the following changes:

   1. Description of the Common API using pseudo syntax added

   2. C signatures of the Comon API moved to appendix

   3. updateSender() and updateListener() calls replaced by events

   4. Function destroyMSocket renamed as deleteMSocket.

  Feedback is highly appreciated!

See you in Prague

Subject: New Version Notification for draft-waehlisch-sam-common-api-06

A new version of I-D, draft-waehlisch-sam-common-api-06.txt has been successfully submitted by Matthias Waehlisch and posted to the IETF repository.

Filename: draft-waehlisch-sam-common-api
Revision: 06
Title: A Common API for Transparent Hybrid Multicast
Creation_date: 2011-03-07
WG ID: Independent Submission
Number_of_pages: 32

Abstract:
Group communication services exist in a large variety of flavors, and
technical implementations at different protocol layers. Multicast
data distribution is most efficiently performed on the lowest
available layer, but a heterogeneous deployment status of multicast
technologies throughout the Internet requires an adaptive service
binding at runtime. Today, it is difficult to write an application
that runs everywhere and at the same time makes use of the most
efficient multicast service available in the network. Facing
robustness requirements, developers are frequently forced to using a
stable, upper layer protocol controlled by the application itself.
This document describes a common multicast API that is suitable for
transparent communication in underlay and overlay, and grants access
to the different multicast flavors. It proposes an abstract naming
by multicast URIs and discusses mapping mechanisms between different
namespaces and distribution technologies. Additionally, it describes
the application of this API for building gateways that interconnect
current multicast domains throughout the Internet.

                     P2MP Streaming Media Delivery
            draft-litao-p2mpsmd-sam-problem-statement-00.txt
Abstract
Currently, more and more Internet streaming services are getting
increasingly popular among users. With the increasing growth of
streaming media traffic, network awareness and policy-based control
are required for providing higher QoE to the end users and better OAM
support to the service providers. They are especially important for
point to multipoint streaming media delivery for the edge network.
However, most of the existing technologies or protocols, such as IP
multicast, do not provide the network aware and policy-based control
mechanisms. This document presents the problem statements in point
to multipoint streaming media delivery for edge network, explains why
network awareness and policy-based control should be urgently
addressed for the point to multipoint streaming media delivery in the
edge network and introduces what's should be further considered in
   the future.

CALL FOR PAPERS:
http://www.cs.utah.edu/~mprobst/ICNP2011/ICNP-2011-CFP.pdf

ICNP, the IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols, is the
premier conference covering all aspects of network protocols, including
design, analysis, specification, verification, implementation, and
performance. ICNP 2011, the 19th ICNP, sponsored by IEEE and IEEE
Computer Society Technical Committee on Distributed Processing, will be
held in Vancouver, Canada, October 17-20, 2011. Papers with significant
research contributions to the held of network protocols are solicited
for submission. Papers cannot be previously published nor under review
by another conference or journal. Papers containing plagiarized material
will be subject to the IEEE plagiarism policy and will be rejected
without review.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Protocol design, implementation, testing, and analysis
* Measurement of protocol performance
* Protocols for specific functions, such as routing, congestion control,
security, survivability, and network management
* Protocols for wireless, mobile, sensor, mesh networks, cognitive
communication, and white spaces.
* Protocols for cloud computing, peer-to-peer systems, emerging
distributed systems, and disruption tolerant networks.

Papers must deal specifically with protocols. Papers on general
networking where protocols are only a secondary focus will be considered
only if they are of exceptional quality. ICNP will select an accepted
full paper for the best paper award.

ICNP 2011 will use a double-blind review process. The identity of
authors and referees will not be revealed to each other. To ensure blind
reviewing, author names and affiliations should not appear in the paper;
bibliographic references should be made in such a way as to preserve
author anonymity. Papers should adhere to the IEEE Computer conference
paper format (IEEEtran.cls) and should not exceed 10 pages. The font
size should be no smaller than 10 pt. At lease one author of an accepted
paper is expected to register for the conference and to present the
paper at the conference, in order for the paper to appear in the
conference proceedings and the IEEE digital library.

                           Labelcast Protocol
                   draft-sunzhigang-sam-labelcast-01

Abstract

This document presents a transport protocol-Labelcast, especially for
IPTV data transmission. Labelcast has the functions of point-to-
multipoint distribution and video quality monitoring. This document
describes why Labelcast protocol is needed in IPTV service. The
header format is defined, and the processing requirements of the
protocol are specified. Impact on protocol stack is considered in
this document. Labelcast is a protocol intended for IPTV data
distribution and can be deployed in an incremental manner.

Long for your response.

Hello all,

We had proposed the -00 version labelcast procotol draft in last ietf
meeting at Beijing.

In the coming meeting we have prepared two drafts:

(1) the problem statement draft about point to multipoint data
distribution protocol in IPTV system

(2) -01 version draft about labelcast

We had also implemented labelcast procotol in our lab for IPTV systems,
Maybe we can demo the video or some results in the meeting.

We are applying visas now, Hope we can meet again in IETF 81.

                   draft-sunzhigang-sam-labelcast-01

Abstract

This document presents a transport protocol-Labelcast, especially for
IPTV data transmission. Labelcast has the functions of point-to-
multipoint distribution and video quality monitoring. This document
describes why Labelcast protocol is needed in IPTV service. The
header format is defined, and the processing requirements of the
protocol are specified. Impact on protocol stack is considered in
this document. Labelcast is a protocol intended for IPTV data
distribution and can be deployed in an incremental manner.

*** We aapologize if you receive this email multiple times ***

Dear colleagues

We're conducting a study of how people use network testbeds (e.g., like =
Emulab and Planetlab, or private testbeds in house). Please help us by =
taking a 7-question, 5-min anonymous survey:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/B6PCRXY

We're interested in your input even if you have not used testbeds (or =
heard about them). This is an NSF-funded study with a potential to =
influence how testbeds are funded and managed so your input may have =
real impact on network research. Results of the study will be released =
publicly at http://www.isi.edu/~mirkovic/Testbeds

Thank you

Hi all,

just to emphasize a hint by Joerg: As several people of this WG are
involved in IPTV and this is strongly related to SAMRG in general,
please, consider (a) the broader scope of this year's IPTComm
conference, which includes also IPTV aspects, and (b) the deadline
extensions until Midnight April 27th, 2011.

  Details: http://www.iptcomm.org/cfp/index.html

Best regards
  matthias
