Hi,

(this is out of scope for the WG for now I recall, but seeming the
list is quite, there shouldn't be any harm..)

Thanks for writing this out. It's still a bit sketchy, of course, but
hopefully could be used to focuse the thinking wrt. whether there is any
hope for Proxy Neighbor Discovery security.

Just two comments:

 - You implicitly assume only Proxy ND in the traditional (MIPv6) sense, but
it could be applied in more general with the Proxy-ND spec as well (esp. if
the rbrigde effort doesn't get going).

 - section 7.2 on Certificate Transport could use a bit more context. I was
confused about which scenario you are considering here -- whether the node
is roaming, but is coming home; or at home but leaving (or already left); or
both (or something else). Two unboiled thoughts:

   1) if the MN knows HA's
address and public key using mechanisms which are out of scope from here
(based on the associating with the HA in the first place), what's still
missing here -- couldn't the MN send its signed authorization along with the
Binding Update, the HA could take it to use, and then send BA?

  2) can this
be simplified if one could assume that MN has to be at home at first (or at
least get its certificate to the HA configured at HA somehow), before moving
or coming home? This would assume that such certificates could be
sufficiently long-lived.

 Folks,

With the publication of draft-ietf-send-ndopts-06.txt, the SEND WG has
fufilled its charter and is now ready to close. I will send email to the
IESG to request that the WG be officially closed. By all accounts, SEND has
been a very successful working group, developing what is turning out to be a
key piece of technology for IPv6 in record time.

Now, of course, the task is to get that technology implemented and pushed
into products and deployments. For purposes of discussing implementation and
deployment, this mailing list will be kept active. At some point when there
are several implementations, we should organize an interoperability test, or
schedule one as part of regular IPv6 interop testing.

Congratulations to all the WG members for a job well done.

                     jak

(Cc: mobopts chairs, INT ADs).

Since the SEND WG is about to shut down,
if there's interest in trying to secure proxy
neighbour discovery, it may be appropriate to pursue it
within the IRTF Mobopts group.

This group is looking at continuing improvements
in IP mobility signalling, particularly aimed at
Mobile IPv6 and associated handover protocols.

Currently the only identified consumer protocols
(apart from RFC2461 Neighbour Discovery) for
Secured Proxy Neighbour Discovery are
RFC 3775 (Mobile IPv6) and draft-ietf-mipshop-fast-mipv6-02.txt
(Fast handovers for Mobile IPv6).

The outputs of any of this work may therefore find
application within the mobility community first.

With regards to the expertise of the group to handle
securing proxy neighbour discovery, several of the
Mobopts participants have been contributors to
IP mobility as well as SEND documents.

Following up in Mobopts has been suggested before on this list,
and now I guess this is an unofficial invitation to
go across to that group to contribute to discussion there.

A summary of the IETF60 Bar BoF is soon to be posted
on mobopts.

Joining the mailing list (mobopts@irtf.org) can be
achieved by sending an e-mail to:

mobopts-request@irtf.org

Hi,

this sounds reasonable. Mobopts is chartered to consider security for
handovers as a general topic of interest. So, this would be a good fit.
At a later stage, we could consider bringing the solutions, e.g.,
including the handover key management, back to IETF for standardization.

Regards,

-Rajeev (Mobopts co-chair)

I'm sorry about this, everyone...

I asked the secretariat to send the usual WG closing message without
realizing that the usual message would declare the mailing list
closed.

There was no intention on my part (or that of the chairs) to close
this mailing list at this time, just some confusion on my part about
what the usual WG closing message would say.

Sorry,
Margaret

One more thing...

Congratulations to James, Pekka and the entire SEND WG for the
successful and timely completion of your work! I hope that this WG
will serve as an example to others.

And special thanks to Jari for all of his hard work on behalf of the SEND WG.

Margaret
