Hi, there might be an oddity with the I-D dependency graphs:

Trying to cleanup some old drafts I found a match from old name
to new name for most EAI drafts. With the I-D dependency graph
I could verify this. After some time I ended up with one "old"
(2006-02-26) unmatched draft-klensin-ima-constraints-00

It's referenced as [I18Nemail-constraints] in the EAI framework
draft (draft-ietf-eai-framework-01). Apparently the dependency
graph doesn't display this reference.

Another point, the graph shows draft-klensin-net-utf8 in state
"IESG or RFC Queue". Came as a shock for me, I thought that's
rather new, and sent some questions about it to the author only
a few days ago.

After some time with the help of the draft tracker I found that
it's "only" in state "publication requested", and I didn't miss
a last call or worse. How about a direct link from "rfcmarkup"
to the draft tracker for known drafts ?

The pidtracker.cgi URL is huge, but it's possible to reduce it
to some constant query ending with (in this case)
&search_filename=draft-klensin-net-utf8

Bye, Frank

Bill is the dependency-graphs' creator, and can answer this more
fully, but as far as I know, the tool that creates these graphs
looks for recognizable document tags (rfcNNNN, draft-xxxx etc.)
in the references section, and uses that information. This means
that a reference by draft name only, which is the case for the
[I18Nemail-constraints] reference, it won't catch it...

I'm working on something that I hope will come close -- there's
now a [Plain text] link on top of the rfcmarkup generated pages,
and I plan to add a [More info] link, too, which will lead to
a page similar to the wg status pages, which will (try to) list
all available information for the document. These pages will
be available for all drafts, not only WG drafts, and will include
the tracker status and a link to detailed tracker information for
the document.

Yup.

Yes, that's plausible, it needs some way to skip stuff which
is NOT a missing draft, but a W3C / ISO / Unicode / whatever
reference.

Sounds great. You could integrate the "plain text" link into
"more info", then you're sure that the latter is never empty.
For old browsers like my "mozilla 3". For popular browsers a
<link rel ="alternate" href=".../id/..." type="text/plain" />
might also work, I can't tell.

Bye, Frank

The ABNF checker at http://rtg.ietf.org/~fenner/abnf.cgi says
/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libc.so.5" not found, required by "bap"

Is there a backup anywhere ? No serious issue, one line of
ABNF valid in 2005 is still valid today, but I try to use
xml2rfc "strict" for type="abnf", which is somewhat tricky.

As Henrik says, the tools depend on seeing the draft string in
the document. I've got a wishlist item to grab the title
if there's no draft string and search for that in all_id.txt;
however, my reference parser is incredibly naive so this would
be a major change - basically a total rewrite. If anyone would
like to contribute code that recognizes references and gives
me the title, I'd be happy to implement the rest.

This wasn't wrong, per se, but I guess you expected to see
something else? What?

Thanks,
  Bill

One thought: many of the community-building sites like
friendster / orkut / etc. have exactly this kind of thing:
here is my profile information, and here is what class of
people may have access to this part of my profile. Are
there any open-source versions of these community-ish
things, and can we leverage that?

Thanks, on my side it was actually a problem with type="abnf"
in xml2rfc, I forgot how that works. It turned out that the
trick is an empty line above its closing </artwork> tag, or to
put that tag in column one.

ACK, looking at the graph with many EAI dependencies correctly
identified - including "dead" (= renamed) documents - I missed
that it simply _cannot_ identify _all_ potential references.
It's good as it is.

My intuition was "last call or later", and apparently you have
"publication requested or later". Your definition is better,
it works also for cases without "last call".

Another clear cut could be "approved or later" (= in RFC editor
queue or already published). You already have another tool for
this period, so I guess that's also good as is, nothing to do,
unless you're collecting FAQs :-)

Thanks, Frank

Well, I wouldn't mind creating another shape/color/something
combination to seperate "publication requested through approved"
from "approved through published", if that's what you're thinking.

It's probably one of these "once you've understood it it's
obvious" things, and with an additional shape or colour the
legend would need more place (BTW, that's a PDF working with
the oldest PDF reader I still have).

Maybe replace the legend by an URL, then you have more room
for complex dependencies (?) My application "use the graph
to figure out how a new WG renamed about six pre-WG drafts"
is a bit esoteric.

Hi folks, Henrik,

I appreciate a lot the WG pages on tools.ietf.org.

However, there seems to be some issue at the moment, at least for the
few working groups that I checked (e.g. l3vpn) : whereas links toward
agenda (with links to slides) and minutes are in place for IETF 65th,
they don't seem to be for the last IETF - though proper material is
referenced in the proceedings pages (e.g.
http://www3.ietf.org/proceedings/06jul/l3vpn.html ).

In details:
- http://tools.ietf.org/wg/l3vpn/agenda says "IETF-67 l3vpn agenda:
Sorry, no agenda available as of today. Either no meeting was held, or
the document has not yet been submitted.". It proposes a link to
IETF66th agenda page.
- http://tools.ietf.org/wg/l3vpn/agenda?item=agenda66.html gives the
agenda (but without links to slides)
- http://tools.ietf.org/wg/l3vpn/minutes says "IETF-67 l3vpn minutes:
Sorry, no minutes available as of today. Either no meeting was held, or
the document has not yet been submitted." and propose no link to IETF
66th agenda
- http://tools.ietf.org/wg/l3vpn/minutes?item=minutes66.html (a URL that
I "blindly guessed") says "Sorry, no minutes available as of today.
Either no meeting was held, or the document has not yet been submitted."

Just in case the issue wasn't known already.

Thanks,

-Thomas

[snip details]

Hmm.  Right.  There obviously is something wrong with the logic here;
and I'll dig up what's the matter.

Nope, I had missed this - thanks for reporting it!

Hi Thomas,

So, some more data on this:

The scripts which look for minutes and slides and update the agenda and
minutes pages have been doing that based on the last main meeting agenda
found; and traditionally this has meant that there has been no overlap
between the period when meeting minutes and slides has been submitted,
and the period when the next meetings agenda has been online in some form.

Recently, the secretariat put online a skeleton agenda for the next IETF
before the period of sending in minutes and slides had completed, with the
result that the script started to look for materials related to the next
meeting, and stopped looking for materials for the last meeting...

I've now arranged to have the scripts look for materials for *both* the
last and the next meeting, in parallel. Hopefully this should result in
the pages being updated correctly the next time the scripts are run, which
should be within an hour.

Regards,

	Henrik

To date, the only spam caught by the IETF spam filter for my lists (speechsc
and lemonade) that trigger the "too many recipients" rule is mail from
legitimate subscribers who neglect to trim recipients on a reply-to-all.

Can we tune the "too many recipients" heuristic a bit better for
subscribers? If we're paranoid, maybe take into account in-reply-to, an
existing subject, etc.?

No, it is actually an internal consistency in the draft, entirely
possible with nroff and almost impossible with xml2rfc.

I think the warning is useful, if trivial.

Okay, no radical "white space canonicalization" for
the idnits, let it treat <FWS> as space, not as empty.

Are you sure that it's OK that references are inconsistently used/defined,
and idnits should ignoring embedded spaces? I can make it so, but it's not
obvious to me that the warnings above are wrong...

Of course, what could be improved is to change the warning to say that the
definition has embedded spaces and is different from the used form, but
that seems to be a small benefit for the extra complexity...

Regards,

	Henrik

Ah. I see you already landed regarding this. Right.
Please disregard my previous message, then.

Yes, when I first saw "BCP78" != "BCP 78" I thought that
this is a bit extreme. But actually it's okay - authors
can always avoid it, and a "FWS-canonicalization" matching
in this case would also match clear typos.

Sorry for the unnecessary confusion: Frank
