It would be grand if the ietf-general and ietf-announce mailing lists
could start supporting this new standard as soon as possible. (Heck,
it would be great if all lists housed at the IETF did!)

I find the email lists for Internet Draft editors (e.g., draft-
name@tools.ietf.org)
to be an extraordinarily useful and efficient mechanism. (I can't
believe
how many hours I've wasted in the past cutting and pasting editors'
names out of the documents before I discovered this feature was
available. Sigh.)

However, I have recently encountered several drafts where one of the
email addresses needed to be updated. Every time a discussion
was initiated, I would end up forwarding at least one message to the
editor's new email address. Oftentimes, I would forward three or four
before everyone on the thread worked it out!

I assume that the ID editors lists are generated automatically when the
ID is submitted. Does a mechanism exist to update these email lists,
other than submission of a new draft, when an editor's email changes?
It really streamlines the discussion process if the list is current...

Thanks,

Tim Polk

I believe Henrik's servers are using the data from
getauthors, a tool that I wrote to extract all sorts
of information from the documents themselves.

There is a plan to move to a secretary-maintained
author information. I suspect this happens when
the I-D submission tool becomes fully operational.

There's a related issue that Henrik and I have
talked about. Namely, I've run into a couple of
bugs in the getauthors tool, and currently the
updates in the tool are not getting reflected
in what the tools server does. This should be
fixed soon.

I don't think either the secretary or the tool
based model currently accommodates
e-mail address changes without document
resubmission. If a feature like that were available,
do you believe people would update their
information?

=2E.. and used by the majority of submitters.

Right. Will continue a conversation with Jari off-list
about this...

There exists a specification for an email update tool,
but it's completely undefined when this might be
implemented.

I don't think the authors would update their information, but the
WG chair or AD *might*. There have been a couple of cases
where I would have updated it, anyway.

Do you plan using directly using a wiki system (which one?) or
adapting one to the needs of WGs?
Thank you.

Do we have easily accessible ASN.1 verifiers somewhere?

I am asking because now and then I'm reviewing documents
that have pure ASN.1 (not just MIBs), and it would be
good to be able to give the formal parts to a verification
tool.

AFAIK, the current method of generating archives is to have an
archive-generator subscribed to the mailing list; obviously,
Archived-At is difficult to implement in this setting.

I agree that it would be excellent to support Archived-At, but
just warning that it may require a wholesale overhaul of the
message archival system to integrate it into the message
forwarding process so that the URL can be generated at the
right time.

Well, you don't necessarily need to have the archival system generate
the URL for inclusion in the message if the URL can be deterministically
generated based on the message headers and a fixed URL prefix at any time=
=2E

I do however agree that some overhaul of the archiving system would be
needed in order to achieve that; but it's less of a change than having
to change things so the archiving is done earlier in the chain.

Indeed, Paul and I were discussing the idea of having Mailman insert
the Archived-At: header with some value derived from, e.g., the Message-ID,
then MHOnArc populate a database mapping Archived-At: values to archived
filenames, and serving redirects from the Archived-At URLs to the
actual resulting files.

(I think this can be done with an entry in the mailman pipeline to add
the header and a callback in the mhonarc run to populate the database.)

Yes. Or simply archive the message under the Archived-At: URL directly,
if it's put together appropriately.

(A detail here is that I think Mailman doesn't use mhonarc, but modified
code from a different archiver, but the principle is of course the same.
Or maybe the IETF setup isn't standard Mailman. Anyway, it should work.)=

Yes, but be careful of the security issues first (section 3.2 of the

Hello!
We have two realization of SCTP. When our side sends INIT then other
one answers by INIT-ACK with rwnd=0. As I noticed there is not exact
description of such case in RFC.

SIDE A SIDE B
                                 <------------------------- INIT

INIT-ACK (a_rwnd=0)        ------------------------->

                               <------------------------- ABORT (remarks)

Should or must SCTP send ABORT on INIT-ACK wtih rwnd=0? Or should/must
it continue association?

Thanks in advance.

In checking a draft that references a fairly recent Proposed Standard,
RFC 4871, idnits is saying that RFC 4871 is unknown state, and a
potential downref.

Is the database used by idnits out of date?

In a sense, yes, for 2.04.14 specifically, because this version had
trouble validating the downloaded updates of the database. This is
fixed in 2.04.15 and 2.04.16 which is available now.

Update:

> for the first search form on <http://tools.ietf.org/html/>
[...]

Most of the time the .../html/... "search" works as expected,
e.g. when I ask for "4646" I get RFC 4646, or when I ask for
"ltru" I get a page where I can pick one of the five LTRU I-Ds.

But when I ask for "4646bis" I get RFC 4646 instead of the
current 4646bis I-D. With "-4646bis" it works (=3D 4646bis I-D).
Ditto "2822upd" (=3D> RFC 2822) vs. "-2822upd" (=3D> 2822upd I-D).
Is that as it should be ?

 Frank

Well, it's as currently written. But when I wrote it that way,
I didn't think of people entering things like 2822upd, although
it makes perfect sense given the behaviour otherwise.

I'm changing the code now so that only clean numbers are
interpreted as RFCs, which will make 2822upd give you the draft.

Thanks. BTW, feel free to grab and modify the opensearch
description for this URL, it's quite nice with Firefox 2.

You could offer it as AddSearchProvider onclick-javascript
on the .../html/ page. Maybe you could also offer it as=20
<link rel=3D"search" type=3D"application/opensearch" ...> in
the header of all .../html/... pages, but as long as this
MIME type isn't registered that's politically incorrect ;-)
