Greetings again. I have started getting comments on my ietf CLI tool =
<http://trac.tools.ietf.org/tools/ietf-cli/>. One person asked if I =
could add the ability to do draft submission from the command line. =
Currently, one goes to <http://datatracker.ietf.org/submit/> and does =
some button pushing which leads to file submission. Is there a direct =
URL for submission that could be used?

Dear IETF Tools experts,

I'm not sure who is responsible for this, but maybe you can tell me (or
just forward this request).

As you can see in the announcement below, and also at
http://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/i-d-announce/current/msg38817.html,
there is some unnecessary (and confusing) escaping going on in the
abstract of ID announcements. I also seem to remember that the same
thing can happen in a title.

With kind regards,    Martin.

Hi there,

the new submission tool fails to extract author names from ... long
author lists (in this case, a 9 name list [1]). The old tool did this
properly (or maybe failed in a less obvious way).

Best regards, Julian

trying to subscribe to one of the auto-generated calendars such as

...when I import this into Thunderbird/Lightning it doesn't get the

Lightning Bug? Spec bug? Calendar file bug?

Greetings again. I would like to extend the "ietf command-line tool" =
functionality to include knowing when an RFC has been obsoleted. I could =
write a parser for rfc-index.xml, but I would guess at least two or =
three of you have already done so. Free code would be appreciated.

If you can call an XML parser plus either an XPath or XSLT
implementation it should be dead simple...

I'm sure the right tweak to the calendar file will make it work, but
I don't have the means to debug this... If you would be able to give
me a tip about what needs tweaking, I'd be happy to do so.

Although it's not what you're asking about, just fyi, there exists a =
Perl script rfc-what-i-mean by Joe Touch (available from =
http://www.isi.edu/touch/tools/), which uses rfc-index.txt to output a =
list of RFCs that are mentioned in the input file and that have been =
updated or obsoleted.

# output =3D RFCs you really mean in two sets:
# first set: one line each, your RFC and its=20
#	appropriate successor(s), including updates:
#	a single line "RFCS TO REPLACE:"
#		rfc2255 -> rfc4516
#		rfc2798 -> rfc3698, rfc4517
#		rfc3698 -> rfc3698, rfc4517
#	a single line of "RFCS YOU MEAN:"
#	second set: one line each, of the sorted,=20
#	unique set of RFCs you want:
#		rfc3698
#		rfc4516
#		rfc4517

Thanks, but it is not what I am interested in. :-) I want Python (even =

Hi Paul,

When a new RFC is published, the Secretariat has to update the
Datatracker manually, so there is always some degree of lag. In this
particular case, the RFC (and nine others) was published after normal
business hours yesterday, and this morning both of the people who
would create the RFC record in the database and update the Datatracker
accordingly have been busy with an IESG telechat. (The telechat has
just ended, so I should have the Datatracker updated for all of these
RFCs within the next hour or so.)

Best regards,
Cindy

That all makes sense, thanks. I didn't realize that this was a truly =
manual process; I thought it was "automatic but with some lag" and was =
questioning the lag.

You should make sure that the RFC Editor doesn't issue any RFCs when you =
are all on an airplane heading to an IETF meeting! :-)

from xml.dom.minidom import parse, parseString
d =3D parse('rfc-index.xml')
docids =3D d.getElementsByTagName("doc-id")
for docid in docids:
    print docid.childNodes[0].data

That should get you a list of RFC/BCP/FYI/STD numbers. With a bit
more work you can get exactly what you're after.

I ended up just powering through it myself, with a dollop of help from =
Dive Into Python 3.

In case this is of use to folks:

from xml.etree import ElementTree as ElTree
. . .
RFCZerosPat =3D re.compile(r'^0+(.*)')
. . .
TagBase =3D "{http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc-index}"
try:
	ParsedRFCDB =3D ElTree.parse("rfc-index.xml")
except:
	exit("Weird: could not find '" + "rfc-index.xml" + "' when =
building the status index. Exiting.")
TreeRoot =3D ParsedRFCDB.getroot()
RFCStatus =3D {}
def StripLeadingZeros(InStr):
	return(sub(RFCZerosPat, "\\1", InStr))
for ThisTopNode in TreeRoot:
	if ThisTopNode.tag =3D=3D TagBase + "rfc-entry":
		ThisRFCNum =3D =
StripLeadingZeros(ThisTopNode.find(TagBase + =
"doc-id").text.replace("RFC", ""))
		RFCStatus[ThisRFCNum] =3D {}
		for ThisLookedFor in ("obsoletes", "obsoleted-by", =
"updates", "updated-by"):
			if ThisTopNode.findall(TagBase + ThisLookedFor):
				RFCStatus[ThisRFCNum][ThisLookedFor] =3D =
[]
				for ThisFoundItem in =
ThisTopNode.findall(TagBase + ThisLookedFor):
					=
RFCStatus[ThisRFCNum][ThisLookedFor].append(StripLeadingZeros(ThisFoundIte=
m.find(TagBase + "doc-id").text.replace("RFC", "")))
		if ThisTopNode.findall(TagBase + "draft"):
			RFCStatus[ThisRFCNum]["draft"] =3D =
ThisTopNode.find(TagBase + "draft").text
		if ThisTopNode.findall(TagBase + "errata-url"):
			RFCStatus[ThisRFCNum]["errata"] =3D True

I then pickle RFCStatus for later use because thawing it is much, much =
faster than parsing the XML. (List comprehensions might shorten the code =
a bit, but I don't mind verbosity.)

Hello,

Recently I've received the I-D Announce digest saying that several
drafts were uploaded after announced cut-off date - 11 July - see
http://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/i-d-announce/current/maillist.html.  I
personally tried to upload a draft using that tool, and my attempt was
successful. So what's this? Cut-off deadline in context of such
situation really makes little sense.

In the meantime, the problem has disappeared over here. Dunno what

I think it was a full disk. Should be OK, now, but let me know if you
see anything more amiss.

Does anyone have a solution to the problem described in

  http://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/ietf/current/msg66647.html

I am using OS X 10.6.8 and svn 1.6.16 and OpenSSL 0.9.8r

% svn up
svn: OPTIONS of 'https://svn.tools.ietf.org/svn/wg/httpbis': SSL =
negotiation failed: SSL error code -1/1/336032856 =
(https://svn.tools.ietf.org)

It has been failing that way for over a month now. What changed?

The iCalendar data looked OK to me. I was able to view it in a couple of
different apps and ran it through my iCalendar parser/validator without
issues. So I would point to a Lightning bug as the cause.

Any thoughts on why caches aren't recognizing that agenda pages are
updated? (I haven't explored my guess...)

Thanks,

I had the same issue until my squid cache decided it was time to refresh
the page. My guess is that the ietf site is not doing the right thing
to the http headers when the agenda page is updated.

I noticed that the agenda page online at =
http://tools.ietf.org/agenda/81/ has an agenda for v6ops on Tuesday =
morning and so does the Agenda RSS feed on the tools site =
feed://tools.ietf.org/agenda/atom.

But the iCal file at http://tools.ietf.org/agenda/81/agenda_81.ics does =
not. The feed shows the agenda for v6ops was updated at 3:06 pm and the =
iCal file was updated at 6:20 pm but it still doesn't contain the v6ops =
agenda in the description field.

Does this have anything to do with the format of the agenda? If the =
agenda is in HTML, does it not get included in the iCal file? Or are =
there other delays in getting the agenda into the .ics file?

Thanks,
Tom=

FWIW -- the workaround is to change your repository URL to 'http'. I've =
confirmed that my client (OSX svn) does use Digest auth.

Cheers,

Take http://tools.ietf.org/wg/opsawg/ as an example. I note that the =
internet drafts considered are working group (draft-ietf-<wg>-*) drafts. =
In most working groups, we also have individual submissions to the wg =
(draft-<name>-<wg>-*), which are contributions at an earlier stage but =
of interest to the working group. These are pointed to by the =
datatracker page for the WG, but in a very different place that I don't =
find very convenient. It would be nice, from my perspective, if the =
tools page could list=20

outdated individual submissions=20
	draft-<name>-<wg>-* but older than the previous IETF meeting =
date

current individual submissions
	draft-<name>-<wg>-* and newer than the previous IETF meeting =
date

working group drafts
	draft-ietf-<wg>-* and not in the IESG (replaces current "active =
drafts")

and then other statuses as they currently exist
