I notice the current manager has been updated with tracking information.

I notice this identifies new and replaced documents. However it does not se=
em to report someone changing the order of the items in the meeting materia=
ls.

It is not a significant problem, but reporting it is the behaviour I would =
have expected.

Hi Tom

On 2011-07-26 01:09 Tom Pusateri said the following:
> I noticed that the agenda page online at http://tools.ietf.org/agenda/81/ has an agenda for v6ops on Tuesday morning and so does the Agenda RSS feed on the tools site feed://tools.ietf.org/agenda/atom.
>
> But the iCal file at http://tools.ietf.org/agenda/81/agenda_81.ics does not. The feed shows the agenda for v6ops was updated at 3:06 pm and the iCal file was updated at 6:20 pm but it still doesn't contain the v6ops agenda in the description field.
>
> Does this have anything to do with the format of the agenda? If the agenda is in HTML, does it not get included in the iCal file? Or are there other delays in getting the agenda into the .ics file?

Yes, it's a matter of the format of the agenda. There's no support for
including html formatted text in the iCalendar format, so only when a
text agenda is available it's included in the .ics file.

Best regards,

	Henrik

Hi,

I get the following error when attempting to log in the idtracker
section of the datatracker (to request the publication of a WG doc):

> IntegrityError: (1062, "Duplicate entry 'enrico.marocco@telecomitalia.i=
' for key 2")

Trying to guess from the error string, the problem may be related to the
fact that my account was in fact created twice, the second time when I
became chair of an additional WG. Anyone experienced the same issue?

Below's the full tracecback, will be happy to help in troubleshooting.

Hi Enrico,

Good guess, but the reason is actually somewhat different. Notice that
the login name is cut of, missing the last letter. The problem is that
the login name field is limited to 30 characters in the database, and your
login name (email address) is longer...

This will be handled eventually, but right now it would be best if it was
possible for your to use a shorter email address, and ask the secretariat
to change over to that for your WG chair duties.

Sorry for the trouble :-(

Best regards,

	Henrik

This is still the case and really annoying if you need to submit seven
drafts in a row.

Is this tracked somewhere?

    Hi Julian,

I suppose that you have problems with draft
http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-ietf-httpbis-p1-messaging-15.txt

I've been looking for the bug and I've found the problem. The new
tool checks the authors in the first page but only in the first 15
lines. With this limitation if the author list is so long then some
authors are ignored.

Henrik, could you take a look at line 419 of draft.py [1]. I think
that this code belongs to you so you maybe now if it's safe to extend
this 15 lines limit or maybe check the first page in some other way.

    I've opened ticket
http://trac.tools.ietf.org/tools/ietfdb/ticket/705 so this bug get tracked.

    Best,

[1]
http://trac.tools.ietf.org/tools/ietfdb/browser/trunk/ietf/utils/draft.py#L419

Hi Julian,

I see you've received a response from Emilio, and I'll also have a look
at this. I'd just like to point out that it's much more likely that
you'll get an immediate fix if you provide the input needed to debug
the problem together with the problem report...

Best regards,

	Henrik

Adrian -

Yes, this is a database problem, and is being handled in the redesign. But
there is no solution for it at this time. The short email address is the
correct solution. Something from gmail would be fine.

Then have him contact the IETF secretariat, and they will make the change.

I've seen the new link in the Datatracker to
<https://datatracker.ietf.org/accounts/>. Currently, the only useful
thing I managed to perform is creating an account, nothing more (maybe
I'm not seeing everything?). I guess this is in some way related to
recently published RFC 6293; so could somebody clarify this?

Yes. I notified the secretariat last week, and was told that this is
known and being worked on.

Hi,

I've now changed the 30-character limit on usernames in the IETF database
and in Django's User model (the new limit is 64 characters). Unless there
are limitations elsewhere in the system, it should now be possible for people
with long email addresses to log as WG chairs and do their stuff.

Best regards,

	Henrik

Folks,

The datatracker is now sufficiently mature and that it offers significantly
better functionality to warrant efforts to make it be the preferred source for
IETF published documents.

This means that a search for an I-D or an RFC should produce a datatracker link
rather than, for example, a tools reference. Currently, a google for a document
always produces tools references at higher ranking and often produces no
datatracker reference in the initial set.

Another change should be to have IETF announcements of RFCs and Internet Drafts
produce a datatracker-based URL.

To be clear about the benefits: The datatracker provides extremely important
context for documents, such as History, IESG record and Errata.

I disagree. Right now, my personal tool gives both links - for example:

http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-vanrein-v6ops-6bed4
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-vanrein-v6ops-6bed4
"IPv6 Tunneling for Embedded Systems (6bed4)", Rick van Rein, =

The datatracker tells me about IESG history, but it doesn't tell me =
working group history apart from current WG state, and it doesn't give =

For RFCs, I have a number of options:

text
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6296 gets me a link to the ID and =

What I don't see being accessed, at least as reported by Google, are

I'm sure folks' personal tools do all sorts of useful things. I am commenting
on public search tools and gave google as the example. I also commented on on
the formal announcements we make that include links.

It does give a diff. Under the history tab for a draft, the first section on
the page is for getting a diff. It defaults to the current compared with
immediately preceding, but is easily set to different versions. (The tools
capability is fixed to only give current compared with immediately preceding.)

If you feel that the design of the datatracker is suboptimal, that's worth
pursuing separately.

I had thought that the money spent on the datatracker was to produce a
production capability and that the tools one was the prototype. Is this not
correct?

None of the choices produced for me inlcude the datatracker.

In general I would expect that one of the expectations for spending money to
develop the datatracker ought to be our making it preferred and easily found,
rather than requiring folk to already know to use it.

It was useful to determine a canonical URL for RFCs; given the ephemeral
nature of IDs, I'm not sure it's as important.

However, if we want to change the content of an ID URL response we
should change the response, not provide a different URL.

It might be better to wait on making the change to point to the =

The first assertion is true but not sufficient for your request. The =

The RFC Editor might, in fact, prefer that rfc-editor.org appear before =
the Datatracker. This is a serious consideration before the IETF asks =

ISTM that the tools system already provides a stable URL for I-Ds,
although maybe as a consequence rather than an intended feature.
After-all, if you leave the version number off of a draft, you always
get the newest version, e.g.:
<http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-hybi-thewebsocketprotocol>

I've actually found that particular feature useful on several occasions.

I thought that that was what you had been paid to develop.

Folks,

A number of the comments seem to be missing the underlying point I'm trying to
make:

We need to help folks who don't know the tricks.

The two most significant way to help folks are through public search engine
listings and through the formal notices.

These should highlight the best entry we have available. We've just sent a heap
of money on the datatracker and, indeed, it looks quite good. Let's help folks
find it.

Unless I'm missing something, that's not how things work.

If we want a particular URI to rank high, we need to play by the rules:
establish link relations, and make sure that sites with a high rank
(wikipedia, for instance) actually link to the version we prefer.

+1, and the RECOMMENDED (by me, not "officially") tools.ietf.org pages
offer links to the tracker and the errata. In fact my personal tool
(Google custom search) eliminates all links to other I-D and RFC repos,
because they don't do what I want.

Sadly some IETF mailing lists still list only "unusable" URLs instead
of simply adding the "working" tools.ietf.org URL.

Check out <URL:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Rfcurl> for
the history of the current MediaWiki default. It's possible to define
another rfcurl system message per MediaWiki project, but I'd scream if
admins actually try that on any MediaWiki installations I care about.

Yep.

I'm also not convinced that it's actually a good idea to make something
that is currently being generated on the fly (it is, right), the default.

I know that Henrik put a lot of work into the tools.ietf.org scripts to
that everything that can be static *is* static, and that things scale
well...

fwiw, i'm quite happy with the tools pages. They're very clean,
well-indexed, and provide stable URLs for per-page and per-section
reference. They're also not distracting at all if you want to just
focus on the RFC as-published.

I understand that the datatracker has much more functionality available,
though. Perhaps we could just convince Henrik to add an outbound link
from the tools page to the relevant (stable) datatracker page?

Many thanks to everyone who has worked on both tools and the
datatracker. These are excellent resources.

Regards,

+1 to Fred. IMHO we need both types of link, because they serve different purposes.

Hi,

is this list the place to report datatracker bugs? On the page
<https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-yevstifeyev-pops-uri-scheme/history/>
the "document replaced by" link is broken:

<https://datatracker.ietf.org/public/pidtracker.cgi%3Cbr%20/%3E?command=view&dTag=21681&rfc_flag=0>
...................................................^^^^^^^^^^^^
Manually removing the <br /> does not help, it results in a 404
for <https://datatracker.ietf.org/idtracker/21681/view/>.
