hello,
sorry if already being discussed or put in specs or ...

I wonder if it would be possible to update the ID announce template with =
the following:
- remove ftp and just use http for referencing the draft url
- add pointer to the diff url between the new version being announced =
and the previous one.
- add pointer to the status of the draft=20

Regards, Marc.=

Thanks, the missing link to the ietf.tools html I-D in draft
announcements was often the reason why I did NOT look into
diffs or datatracker comments. Of course it is ridiculous,
but 2 clicks are 100% more than 1 click for lazy folks... :-)

I suggest that simply including the pointer to the datatracker entry for the
draft is better. It accomplishes the above two items and more.

Specifically:

    <http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/{I-D name}

We've spent quite a bit of money on creating the datatracker tool. I think the
results are quite good.

We should encourage its use.

Hi,

When I run idnits in verbose mode, the reported line numbers for errors =
do not match the line numbers in the idnits output. They do, however, =
match the line numbers from the source file. It looks like the idnits =
output doesn't count white space in its line numbering, so the numbers =
end up being different.

It would be helpful to have the error report match the numbering in the =
idnits output, and to a lesser degree, to have the numbering in the =
idnits output match the numbering would would find viewing the source =
file in a typical text editor.

Thanks!

Ben Campbell.

Hi. I came across http://tools.ietf.org/about and I woud like to
chat with someone regarding some work I am doing (as a volunteer)
for the ISO/IEC JTC1.

I am the covenor of a Ad-Hoc of the JTC 1 called "Enabling Tools" whose
charter is to look at tools to collaborate and help create standards that
the various standards committees, working groups of the JTC1 can use.

Today, these various subgroups do what works for them in general. They
are welcome to use tools made available by the ISO (Webex and a
CRM-tool from OpenText).

I am convenor of this Ad-hoc and the group comprises interested people
from various national bodies. I am a volunteer with the Singapore IT
Standards Committee (www.itsc.org.sg) and me convening this ad-hoc
is purely because I attended the JTC1 plenary in Belfast in 2010 as a
rep from the Singapore national body and when the call came from the
plenary for someone to head up the ad-hoc, I raised my hand.

I am very partial to how IETF does stuff and I think IETF's model of
standards-making is the right model. I would like to take the ideas of
IETF and influence ISO/IEC JTC 1. I think starting at collaboration
tools would be a good start and so I'd like to hear from someone on
this.

Thanks.

There are two broad categories of such tools: workflow and =
participation. The Tools Team traditionally focuses on workflow: WG =
mailing lists, issue trackers, document update tracking and retrieval, =
and a few others. Participation tools (Jabber, meeting broadcasting over =
audio, ...) has been done by the Secretariat. Your message above covers =
both types of tools.

Recently, I have been contracted by the IETF to come up with the =
requirements for improving the participation tools, but not the workflow =
tools. I'll contact you separately about talking about JTC1 and =
participation tools, but you should keep talking to the folks here about =
the workflow tools and their applicability / availability to JTC1.

I believe the IETF wiki is a large number of independent wikis. If you mean
specifically "the" IETF wiki, I'm not sure which one that is. I don't see an
indication of a singular wiki on <ietf.org>, but do note a:

    Wikis <http://wiki.tools.ietf.org/group/>

under Resources.

This is a basic point, which is why I'm pursuing it. While it might be nice to
have a "give me notices for any changes on any related wiki" I don't think it's
available. I think you have to sign up for notices for each wiki that you are
interested in.

Then there's the question of how to sign up for notification.

Trac does support notification. I used to have email notices for the 'outcomes'
wiki but am not finding the sub-page on that wiki for subscribing.

In searching about track, I did find references to RSS notifications:

    <http://trac.tools.ietf.org/misc/outcomes/wiki/TracRss>

Really? I thought they were all hosted off of trac.tools.ietf.org or =

Exactly. That page says "find the small RSS icon" for the page. I don't =
see them on any IETF wiki pages. Does that mean that there is no RSS =
feeds, or just that we need to know the URL for the link ourselves? If =
the latter, what is the recipe?

This seems to be a bug introduced in
http://trac.tools.ietf.org/tools/ietfdb/changeset/3624 when trying to
solve another bug.

I suggest using the attached patch to solve both problems.

    Best,

The patch has been applied to both the production tracker and the
development source. You should be able to get to the URL when logged
in as AD now.

I've added a <link rel="alternate"/> RSS feed header to the wiki pages,
to make regular RSS discovery tools work. This still uses the same
functionality which is available from the timeline/ page of each Trac
instance; in general that's where you should head for customized RSS
feeds from Trac, as Julian already indicated.

Henrik,

Great! I see it on the wg's home page, such as:

    <http://tools.ietf.org/wg/repute/>

I suggest also adding it to the wg's wiki base page, such as:

    <http://trac.tools.ietf.org/wg/repute/trac/wiki>

_That_ particular icon with rss link has been in place for ages :-) ,
and provides a feed of new document submissions for the WG; however:

here I can add an icon with a link to a feed for changes to the wiki
pages (the same URL as the <link rel="alternate"/> tag in the header)
-- is that what would be most helpful? Or are you thinking of showing
the same link as on the status page, giving a feed of document submissions?

oh. crap.

There's no real way to know that it's focus is that limited, without inspecting
the text of the link specification. It's a rather subtle implication of the
page it's on -- which by the way is titled "Status Pages" rather than
"Documents" or somesuch. All very confusing, even with coffee.

Worse, that page is really the home page for the working group. It's not just a
documents page. So the existing RSS feed symbol really does need a label.

Also, this means that I didn't find the 'changes' RSS link, even when looking
for it:

<http://trac.tools.ietf.org/wg/repute/trac/timeline?milestone=on&ticket=on&changeset=on&wiki=on&max=50&authors=&daysback=90&format=rss>

My specific suggestion is that there by a link to /wiki changes/ on the wg home
page and on the wg wiki base page. A link to i-d notifications is also fine,
but quite separate and clearly needs to be clearly labeled.

(I note in passing that the Trac pages there usually take around 15
seconds to load for me, so I basically never use it for anything if
it can be avoided, and that's pretty much all the time.)

Hi Peter,

Yes, I know. The machine which is providing the trac service is old
and tired. I will try to move this over to a different machine within
the next month.

Best regards,

	Henrik

There are three pages exposed at the datatracker that have become stale
or are producing erroneous information.
https://datatracker.ietf.org/iesg/ann/ind/
https://datatracker.ietf.org/iesg/ann/new/
https://datatracker.ietf.org/iesg/ann/prev/

Has anyone been using those links?

The first link, in particular has not been updated to reflect RFC5742,
and is currently showing an incomplete set.

All of the information on those pages is available in other locations
(at the very least at
<http://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/ietf-announce/current/maillist.html>.

Unless someone has been relying on these links, I propose removing them.

Hi Amy,

I've stared looking into this, but there are many paths which potentially
touch the flag in questions, so it's not trivial to know exactly where to
look.  One possibility is that some recent changes may have caused this;
so it would be good to know (as far as you can tell) if this problem has
appeared with one of the most recent releases, or is a long-standing one.

Best regards,

	Henrik

G'day.

The datatracker appears to be producing partial results both for RFCs and for
expired I-Ds.

I did the obvious test of using my own last name and both sets of results were
significantly incomplete.
