As I found out when trying to give you a recipe, it turns out to be rather complex. We could of course make your box just rsync off rsync3, but I don't really see that that buys us much. Better take this out of DNS now, and think about rewriting the generation of the bibxml files. I don't remember who's doing the DNS for xml.resource.org, though ... If you're logged in, you should be able to create a ticket. No special rights beyond being authenticated is required (which just means that you get the TICKET_CREATE right by being logged in). We are using the tracker decently well and actually put in information in it. After having been away for quite a number of week I did notice a number of inconsistencies in the tracker. I especially noticed two types: Documents that has been publication requested we have failed to move into "submitted to IESG" state. The other I noticed is the "revised ID needed" state. I think these inconsistencies can be avoided by some automatic state transfers being implemented. First of all if the IESG tracker sets the state into publication requested, shouldn't the WG tracker automatically move to "Submitted to IESG"? Secondly, the revised ID needed state I think should be update from "Revised ID needed" to a an equivalent to "AD follow up", maybe "WG follow up" indicating that what ever prompted the revision needs to be verified and the next steps determined. To motivate why I think leaving it in "revised ID needed" is bad. If one see the "revised ID needed" state one immediately thinks as another WG participant that there is little point doing anything, as the authors anyway need to fix the document. Now that things are in place to handle this, the correct way to get a document submitted to the IESG is to set the WG state to "Submitted to the IESG for Publication". The automated things then kick the IESG state into "Publication Requested". You're asking for the opposite. It makes sense to have the opposite happen, in the event that things are done that way... but things should not generally be done that way any more. Sure, I have missed that it is sufficient to set a document in Submitted to IESG state in the WG tracker and the magic happens on the IESG side. It has been quite a while where this hasn't been the truth, thus my observation. If setting the state to Submitted to IESG works for this then this is a transient problem and will go away as people use that. But, I wonder how many WG chairs will continue request manual publication. From that perspective, I think one should consider a double checking feature that moves WG tracker along if the IESG tracker is moved to publication requested sate. An email going to me as shepherd/WG chair of the transition when it happens might get a quicker follow up. I am uncertain of how useful it is to others. I would say implement it only if it is dead simple to do, and possibly one would like to have a settings for having them on or off. In the Applications Area, no WGCs continue to request publication manually, because Pete and I won't accept requests that way. We tell the chairs that using the datatracker is the way to do it, and so they do it that way. It's easier for them and it's more reliable for us... and it's the only way we'll accept it. I know there are other ADs who want things done that way, and I'm sure it's not all of us. At some point, it will be. So a last-call announcement would simply point to the dashboard for this = document. While the LC is running, this would show the LC end date, the shepherd = write up etc. After that, it would show who we are waiting for (first AD, then author, = ...). When it's in IESG balloting, it would show the ballots (that link that = currently is sent too early). And so on. Requires some more design, but could actually make the process *much* = more transparent for non-process-jockeys. It has all of that (if you look at the datatracker page for a doc that's in Last Call, you'll see that it says when last call ends. So, I'm glad that we could handle your request so quickly, and I wish it were always that easy. But for those same process-non-jockeys, knowing what they can find is often a challenge. The IESG Evaluation Record is called out in the last call notice because we want to make sure that people are aware that it exists and that it's something they might want to look at. I think the same goes for the shepherd writeup. Now, it's true that the IESG Evaluation Record page doesn't usually exist when the last call notice goes out (it's created when the responsible AD issues the IESG ballot, which is usually near the end of or after last call), but consider that the last call notice is the only official notice to the community that the IESG is processing the document. I don't really think it would be an improvement to send another notice later. One that was originally submitted under an email address I no longer have. I just submitted a new version. No trouble, up to the point where the submission tool didn't send me an email, because it only sends emails that are in the intersection of the sets for current and previous versions of the draft. (As per previous discussions regarding draft hijacking protections.) However, there is no feedback to this effect. I'm now not sure if this draft has raised alarms with the secretariat, or whether it's now just in limbo. I can still cancel it, should I? Should I then request manual processing to submit the new version? Hi Lars, Thanks for the quick reply. That could work. The advantage that a WG has = is the tools system allows related drafts, mail list archives, wiki, etc = to all be gathered under one roof. Would it be complex to allow a = potential WG or BoF to have documents etc structured the same way? At present the norm is for a BoF to be one of potentially many listed at = the BoF tracker page per meeting. Last meeting that was 10 or 11 BoFs = and associated texts in one very large wiki page. Another thing to consider is that not all work is around BoFs, e.g. = there may be initial spin-up and activity for a few months before a BoF = is held, or as in the case with mdnsext/dnssdext there may be two BoFs = which may not be at consecutive IETF meetings. A WG-like area would be = helpful in such cases. Just a suggestion anyway. Tim=
