Folks,

As hinted at in section 5.7.5 of the 03 bootstrapping document we wanted to=
put some more time and thought into what a CoAP requirement and solution w=
ould look like.
	https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-anima-bootstrapping-keyinfra-03#sec=
tion-5.7.5

To expand on the thinking this draft now exists:
	https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-pritikin-coap-bootstrap-00
=09
This is of course rough thoughts. Opinions and feedback strongly solicited.=
Pointers to other work you want this to contrast against and or details yo=
u feel worthy of additional discussion etc are all solicited. Thanks!

See you all in Berlin,

Max,

At my level of understanding of CoAP, which is very low, this seems
to make sense. I do have a couple of questions, which probably betray
my ignorance:

1. Is CoAP/DTLS protected against corrupt packets? (Assuming we are
talking about UDP/IPv6 there will at least be the UDP checksum.)

2. In the fragmentation scenario, what happens when a fragment is
corrupted or lost?

Regards
   Brian

DTLS ciphersuites usually authenticate the packets (and protect against
replay), so there will be very strong protection.

I'm not sure I understood that part of the draft*), but generally CoAP
is designed so you can avoid fragmentation (and use the segmentation
provided by draft-ietf-core-block instead); the latter has per-segment
reliability (acknowledgements and retransmits). DTLS may require
fragmentation during its handshake; this is mitigated if you can use a
PSK (symmetric) or, if you need asymmetric, ECC-based ciphersuite, which
allows the packets to stay well below 1280 bytes.

Grüße, Carsten

*) We just had an interesting exchange in the CoRE WG where some people
weren't aware of the terminology that differentiates fragmentation and
segmentation; I apologize for sticking to that.

Good, that's what I hoped to hear.

Further, we anticipate that we will sometimes need to send >1280 things (chains
of certificates), and so we will need to use CoAP Block Transfer mode as
well.

6tisch-security is also considering OSCOAP rather than DTLS, but this is
very primilinary.

Brian:

Whats the best time to meet up ideally before the ANIMA meeting on
monday to discuss/rectify the situation re. using GRASP re. mDNS
in BRSKY/ACP ? Would like to have this solved hopefully before the
EG meeting mon afternoon.

I arrive Sun 2 PM in Berlin, so available from eg: 4 PM Sun
and Mon morning as well, no exclusions. Whats fitting for the others here,
especially MichaelB, MichaelR, Max... could you please chime in ?

Cheers
    Toerless

I agree that you don't need to add anything normative. I still think it w=

Max will be AFK for the next three weeks, I think he said.
I propose to cancel the phone call on July 26, and on August 9.
We will proceed on August 2 with a lighter agenda, possibly none.

The next full call will be August 16, 23, and 30th.

Thanks for planning. Sounds good. I've cancelled Mtg today, we can see
if we want to cancel the 9th when we meet on the 2nd.

I'd love to close on the issue of encoding the ACP parameters
in the certificate, and you had suggested to do something
different from what's in the draft. Would be great if you had
some idea for August 2th. I am primarily looking for some
idea how we would recognize an ACP address/domain-name if there
are also other address/domain-name AltName entries.

Cheers
    Toerless

(note typo in boostrapping)

I did not have an ietf webex account, so for now I did create a webex on th=
e Cisco site. This has the benefit that telephony is free (with callbacks).=
Just one of the four list members from cisco needs to be present. If this =
is an issue, I'll change to IETF webex (I requested an account right now).

Timezone is set to MET, so for us folks in the US, there will be some hicku=
p during the weeks in March/November when EU/US do not switch the same time=
, hope this is ok, else I can change to US timezone.
