Dear CoRE list

Happy new year!

I just found a small contradiction in coap-18:

Section 4.2 says on page 21: "including the case where the Acknowledgement =
carries a request"

While this is technically possible, Table 1 "Usage of message types" indica=
tes that requests can only be carried in CON and NON messages.

I would suggest to simply remove the parenthetic clause in Section 4.2, whi=
ch also makes the important statement much clearer. A question remains whet=
her we already have or should have a clear "MUST NOT" for carrying requests=
in Acknowledgements. (Or even explicitly allow it?)

Ciao
Matthias

Hi Matthias,

thanks for reading this again closely.

Indeed, and that=92s why they need to be rejected when in an ACK or RST.

Quoting the entire text should make clearer that this is not a =
contradiction at all:

   Rejecting an Acknowledgement
or Reset message (including the case where the Acknowledgement
carries a request or a code with a reserved class, or the Reset
message is not Empty) is effected by silently ignoring it. More
generally, recipients of Acknowledgement and Reset messages MUST NOT
respond with either Acknowledgement or Reset messages.

So the point is that even if you receive a request in an ACK (which =
makes it unprocessable), an unprocessable ACK is never responded to; you =
just silently ignore it.

(We had some last-call comments that the term =93rejecting a message=94 =
may be confusing when it is effected by ignoring the message =97 some =
people think that term implies actively sending a message indicating =
rejection. We didn=92t find better terminology, unfortunately.)

Okay, got it :)
I was currently on the general topic of rejecting messages for any possible=
reason and read "including the [perfectly normal] case where the Acknowled=
gement carries a request." Table 1 is explicit enough, though.

Thanks for the quick response

Hi

Found something else: Section 5.10 ends with
   (The
present specification does not define any NoCacheKey options, but the
format of the table is intended to be useful for additional
   specifications.)
But we now have Size1 in Table 4, which is marked N=3DNoCacheKey.

Ciao
Matthias

#362: We do have a NoCacheKey attribute in the base spec now

 Matthias Kovatsch notes:

 Section 5.10 ends with
   (The
present specification does not define any NoCacheKey options, but the
format of the table is intended to be useful for additional
   specifications.)
But we now have Size1 in Table 4, which is marked N=NoCacheKey.

Proposed resolution: Delete the parenthetical remark in AUTH48.

Good catch!

This is rather typical of the kind of bugs we tend to fix in AUTH48.

I have added a milestone AUTH48 to the tracker.

Hi,

In the CoRE network, endpoints, proxies or routers might not have IP
multicast capability.
As an application layer protocol, the multicast facility could be got on
some alternatives, not limited IP multicast only.

In current CoAP -18,
      " 8. Multicast CoAP
CoAP supports making requests to a IP multicast group. This is defined
by a series of deltas to Unicast CoAP. A more general
discussion of group communication with CoAP is in
[I-D.ietf-core-groupcomm]."

I suggest to change as :
" 8. Multicast CoAP
CoAP supports making requests to a group of endpoints, named as CoAP
group communication.
This is defined by a series of deltas to Unicast CoAP. A more general
discussion of group communication with CoAP is in
[I-D.ietf-core-groupcomm]."

It is well known that current [I-D.ietf-core-groupcomm] concerns to use IP
multicast only.
It is better to open other alternatives.

Gengyu

Indeed, currently #4 is used in a CoAP Proxy.
The Proxy in any case has to process the CoAP request so that the hostname
is resolved to an IP address (unicast or multicast); so there is no extra
work involved in determining whether the message is multicast or not.
Due to some issues described in
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-core-groupcomm-18#section-2.10 there
is a guideline proposed that a Proxy SHOULD NOT send out a CoAP multicast
request.

Subject: [core] Group Communication identify

Hi Carsten and all:

I raise a problem without relation to the current group comm draft.

The problem is whether we need an explicit identity of multicast/group comm
message.

There is no identity in the CoAP message whether it is a group comm or
multicast message in CoAP-18.
Although Group URI is defined in Group Comm for CoAP, each node needs to do
name resolution to know the multicast/group comm, or the node to dig out the
IP address from the underneath protocol layers.
This may not be a trivial for an intermediary node to get this knowledge
when forwading message as message is transferred hop by hop.
So, marking a message to be multicast/group comm can simplify this.

Marking a message to be a CoAP multicast/group comm message would have
following alternatives:
1. define a bit flag in message format, that informs whether message is sent
in multicast/group comm; 2. define a option of multicast or Group comm; 3.
define a dedicated UDP port number, which represents for multicast/group
comm; 4. define a primitive to get the underneath IP address and determines
whether the message is multicast/group comm by IP multicast address;

Current CoAP drafts seem to use #4 that is a cross layer means.
Probably, the above #1, #2 and #3 would be better than #4.

Gengyu

Subject: [core] WGLC of draft-ietf-core-groupcomm-17

In Vancouver, we said we were going to WGLC the groupcomm draft after some
more edits, which were submitted by the authors on 2013-11-28.
All outstanding tickets are closed. The recent discussion on correlating
responses to multicast requests might lead to some additional explanatory
text on how to handle the correlation, but this is something we can handle
during the WGLC.

So this starts a working group last call for -groupcomm for submission as an
informational RFC, ending on

24:00 PDT on Monday, December 23, 2013.

Please start a new email thread for each major issue that will need
discussion and make sure the subject line includes the draft name and some
sort of name for the issue. For minor issues such as typos and things that
are not likely to lead to much discussion, it is probably easier to group
them all in to one email but again, please make sure the subject line
includes the draft name. If you read the draft and think it looks fine,
please send a one line email to the list or to the chairs letting us know
that so we can get a feel of how broad the review has been.

If you are aware of any patent claims that might apply to systems that
implement the suggestions in this draft, please review BCP 78 and BCP
79 and make any appropriate IPR declaration. If you are not sure whether you
need to make a declaration or not, please talk to the chairs and we will
help get you in touch with people that can provide appropriate advice.

Grüße, Carsten

#363: Remove CoAP scheme in default HTTP-CoAP URI mapping

 As discussed during IETF88 CoRE meeting;
The CoAP scheme could be removed in the default URI mapping. E.g. instead
 of:

  http://p.example.com/hc/coap://s.coap.example.com:4567/foo/bar?a=3

 we would have:

  http://p.example.com/hc/s.coap.example.com:4567/foo/bar?a=3

This implies we need to choose how the HC proxy decides between
 coap/coaps:

 1) HC proxy makes the choice between coap/coaps - may be pre-configured
 2) HC proxy exposes different HTTP-discoverable resources e.g. /hc for
 coap:// and /hcs for coaps://
 3) HC proxy uses coap:// if HTTP client uses http:// , and uses coaps://
 if HTTP client uses https://
 4) let implementers decide - outside scope of HTTP-mapping I-D
 5) some combination of above, e.g. a proxy uses option #3 for its resource
/hc and uses option #2 for its resource /hcs

#364: Add discovery of HTTP-CoAP mapping resource(s)

 As discussed during the IETF88 CoRE meeting;
Discovery of the mapping resource/resources on a HC proxy may be useful.
This avoids a 'hardcoded'/static mapping URI on the proxy which tends
 towards URI namespace squatting.

The Link Format string for a mapping resource could include a URI template
description of how the CoAP URI should be formed. The /.well-known/core
Link Format description would be exposed as HTTP resource by the HC proxy.
(And optionally as CoAP resource, too) Multiple resources could also be
defined e.g. for different mapping formats, or to select coap scheme
 between coap:// and coaps:// .

However, the question remains whether the HTTP client can be expected to
parse CoRE Link Format, or not. Not all HTTP clients that need to use the
HC proxy may be able to do this.

#365: Add text on media-type conversion by HTTP-CoAP proxy

 From discussion during the IETF88 CoRE meeting (Klaus Hartke);

The I-D needs to consider that media-type conversion is also needed.
Conversion between the CoAP Content Format and HTTP media type is needed,
in both directions. Some text could be added to describe this process and
 possible pitfalls (if any).

One issue may be application-specific media types: is the HC Proxy
required to implement *all* media types registered in the CoAP Content
Format registry? There could be many; some years from now. The HC Proxy
would have to know all these types to properly map the CoAP Content Format
 number e.g. 1234 into a media type string e.g. "application/coap-
group+json". Does the HC Proxy need regular updates to keep up with new
 CoAP Content Formats ?

#366: Mapping of Link Format payloads to be valid in HTTP domain

 As discussed in the IETF88 CoRE meeting (Thomas Fossati);

If a HTTP client retrieves a CoRE Link Format document via an HC proxy,
the relative URI references may not be valid anymore.

Example HTTP request to HC proxy:
  GET http://hcproxy.example.com/hc/coap://mysensor.example.com/.well-
 known/core

Example Link Format resource /.well-known/core retrieved by the HC proxy:
  </sensors/temp>;rt="temperature-c";if="sensor"

which indicates a relative path on the CoAP server. While, to be fully
 correct, it should perhaps read:
  <coap://mysensor.example.com/sensors/temp>;rt="temperature-c";if="sensor"

That means the HC Proxy would need to modify the payload before returning
it to the HTTP client. See for background:
 http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6690#section-2.2

Is this desirable? Or should the HC proxy not change any payloads
 retrieved.
Are there other content formats that need to be adapted in a similar way?

#365: Add text on media-type conversion by HTTP-CoAP proxy

Comment (by esko.dijk@philips.com):

 Aspects to be considered include:

 ** Conversion of payload/body data

 1) converting a HTTP request body to an equivalent CoAP payload, so it
fits a CoAP Content-Format that is available at the HC proxy
    (Any examples?)
 2) converting a CoAP response payload to an equivalent HTTP body;
e.g. doing Link Format corrections as mentioned in #366.

** Conversion of media type indicators

 3) converting the CoAP Content-Format option to the HTTP Content-Type and
 Content-Encoding header fields
(Straightforward for known Content-Formats. What to do with unknown
 ones?)
 4) converting a HTTP Content-Type/Content-Encoding to a CoAP Content-
 Format that is available;
e.g. generalizing by converting "application/foo+json" to type 50
 (application/json)

A new version of I-D, draft-vanderstok-core-comi-02.txt
has been successfully submitted by Peter van der Stok and posted to the
IETF repository.

Name: draft-vanderstok-core-comi
Revision:	02
Title: CoAp Management Interfaces
Document date:	2014-01-09
Group: Individual Submission
Pages: 31
URL:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-vanderstok-core-comi-02.txt
Status:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-vanderstok-core-comi/
Htmlized: http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-vanderstok-core-comi-02
Diff:
http://www.ietf.org/rfcdiff?url2=draft-vanderstok-core-comi-02

Abstract:
The draft describes an interface based on CoAP to manage constrained
devices via MIBs. The proposed integration of CoAP with SNMP reduces
the code- and application development complexity by accessing MIBs
via a standard CoAP server. The payload of the MIB request is CBOR
based on JSON. The mapping from SMI to CBOR is specified.

Note

Discussion and suggestions for improvement are requested, and should
    be sent to core@ietf.org.

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of
submission
until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

Hello Carsten, everyone,

for the GroupComm I-D, all the WGLC review comments should now have been ad=
dressed in the current version -18. Can we now close the 'WGLC response' ph=
ase, or are there further updates needed? (Or a second WGLC to review the c=
hanges made...?) If the authors need to do some work still, let us know!

Thanks to all the reviewers for taking the time and effort.

regards,
Esko

Hi Esso, and all,=20

I do not think that current GroupComm I-D is required to modify.=20

And my suggestion is to modify CoAP =E2=80=9318 related to CoAP group =
communicatoins: =20
1. Do not make CoAP Group Communication tightly only related with IP =
multicast,=20
it will open other alternatives to implement CoAP Group =
Communications.
2. Define a kind of mechanisms to mark the multicast message at =
transport layer and/or application layer.=20

#363: Remove CoAP scheme in default HTTP-CoAP URI mapping

Changes (by esko.dijk@philips.com):

 * status:  new => closed
 * resolution:   => fixed

Comment:

Done in [1571]. Option 2) has been selected: HC proxy exposes different
 HTTP-discoverable resources e.g. /hc for coap:// and /hcs for coaps://

A new version of I-D, draft-tcs-coap-no-response-option-05.txt
has been successfully submitted by Abhijan Bhattacharyya and posted to the
IETF repository.

Name: draft-tcs-coap-no-response-option

Abstract:
=A0=A0 There can be typical M2M scenarios where responses from the data
=A0=A0 sink to the data source against request/ notification from the
=A0=A0 source might be considered redundant. This kind of open-loop
=A0=A0 exchange (with no reverse path from the sink to the source) may be
=A0=A0 desired while updating resources in constrained systems looking for
=A0=A0 maximized throughput with minimized resource consumption. CoAP
=A0=A0 already provides a non-confirmable (NON) mode of exchange where The
=A0=A0 receiving end-point does not respond with ACK. However, the
=A0=A0 receiving end-point responds the sender with a status code
=A0=A0 indicating "the result of the attempt to understand and satisfy the
=A0=A0 request".

=A0=A0 This draft introduces a header option: 'No-Response' to suppress
=A0=A0 responses from the receiver and discusses exemplary use cases which
=A0=A0 motivated this proposition based on real experience. This option
=A0=A0 also provides granularity by allowing suppression of a typical class
=A0=A0 or a combination of classes of responses. This option may be
=A0=A0 effective for both unicast and multicast scenarios.

=A0=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =
=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0=

until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

Be cautious of this computer science conference

If you have any thought of attending the world’s biggest
f-a-k-e conference in computer science
http://www.world-academy-of-science.org you should visit
any websites below

https://sites.google.com/site/worlddump1
or
https://sites.google.com/site/dumpconf
https://sites.google.com/site/moneycomp1
https://sites.google.com/site/worlddump4

The organizer of this conference is H-amid A-rabnia
http://www.cs.uga.edu/~hra a professor from University
of Georgia, Athens, US. He already earned millions of
dollars from the registration fee. He recently started
a new conference CSCI due to his hunger for money
http://www.americancse.org

He did not reveal the reviews and reviewers' information
for all the papers he received, despite repeated requests
and challenges. The reason for his failure is there are
no reviews and reviewers and he just cheated the research
community for more than a decade by announcing that each
draft paper is reviewed by two experts. We challenge him
to publish these details at the conference website.
Where are your experts? Where are your reviews?

Soon he comes up with a story announcing that he lost all
the information having reviews and reviewers because of
computer crash or theft.

DBLP stopped indexing these conferences since 2011 and
displayed an explicit message;
"The DBLP Advisory Board decided to discontinue indexing
of this conference series". Visit
http://www.informatik.uni-trier.de/~ley/db/conf/biocomp/index.html
as a sample.

He was forced to remove his name, the university of Georgia
name, and university of Georgia email address from the
conference’s contact page because the University has
banned him from doing that. Do not spoil your resume by
publishing in this conference.

Apologies for posting to multiple mailing lists. Spreading
the news is the only way to stop this conference from
harming innocent researchers.

Respectfully,

Many researchers cheated by these conferences

Hi Carsten/Andrew,

=20

=20

We would greatly appreciate if you could advise us regarding the next
steps for the GroupComm I-D. We finished the WGLC period in December,
and have already updated the I-D to address all the good comments from
the WGLC. What is the next step?

=20

Hello Carsten, everyone,

=20

for the GroupComm I-D, all the WGLC review comments should now have been
addressed in the current version -18. Can we now close the 'WGLC
response' phase, or are there further updates needed? (Or a second WGLC
to review the changes made...?) If the authors need to do some work
still, let us know!

=20

Thanks to all the reviewers for taking the time and effort.

=20

regards,

Esko
