Rich,

Can we please open up this agenda item for a discussion of other
non-contact URI ENUM services (unused, send-N, loc, etc) and how to go
forward with those?

thanks,

Ray

Rich,

Looking at your -08 draft for CNAM, I see that the ABNF is much the same
as before.

You may recall that back in March I previously suggested that the line:

  pstndatauri = "pstndata:" datatype [ "/" telephone-subscriber ] ";"
content

be split apart to make extending the ABNF easier:

  pstndatauri = "pstndata:" pstndatatype
  pstndatatype = cnamdatatype
  cnamdatatype = "cnam" [ "/" telephone-subscriber ] ";" content

Any subsequent extension then just needs to use (for example):

  pstndatatype =/ unusedatatype
  unuseddatatype = "unused" ...

which cleanly adds this subtype without changing the top-level ABNF entity
nor leaving anyone wondering whether _all_ pstndata URIs are supposed to
include the telephone-subscriber or content fields.

At the time I believe you agreed this was sensible. Can this still be
fixed at this stage?

kind regards,

Ray

FYI,

meanwhile these docs are progressing again. Jon moved them from "AD
Go-Ahead::Point Raised" to "IESG Evaluation" on Sept 30th.

So we don't really have to spend time on this point in Minneapolis.

Authors and all,

I was asked to do a review of draft-ietf-enum-combined-08 for IESG
evaluation, and I found the document to be ready for publication:

This document defines an interim solution for the provisioning of
Infrastructure ENUM registrations in DNS, which can be deployed at the
national level before a final, internationally agreed-upon solution has
been standardized. The document describes the technical side of the
interim solution, defines its limited scope, illustrates this with
detailed examples, and provides guidance for eventual transition to the
final solution.

The document is ready for publication; it is clear, easy to read, and to
the point.

- Christian

FYI...

I just received notice of this today... don't know if other have
already seen it:

https://datatracker.ietf.org/ipr/1007/

Interesting how it goes all the way back to URI resolution with DNS
and the URN/DDDS basics (RFC 2168, 3401, 3402, 3403,....).

Hi Andy,

But he leaves out RFC1530 from 1993 which places
the core technology in the public domain and
in use well before the patent.

We can thank Carl and Marshall for putting the
ENUM technical platform and technique in the public
domain early on.

Yes, me too.

It appears to include every RFC or draft that's remotely related to ENUM.

As far as I can see RFC 1530 is clear prior art.

Hi Folks,
  OK - I'm awake. I have so far had five of these notifications.

The "patent" I find most entertaining is "Method and apparatus for
accessing communication data relevant to a target entity identified by
a number string" (US Patent 701 2916)

2916 - they have to be kidding.
Is this proof that US patent examiners have a sense of humor?

all the best,
  Lawrence

Hi Folks,
  We have just uploaded a new version of the Experiences draft. This
reflects further discussions in IESG review.
This has a couple of clarifications on behaviour, particularly on the
ORDER/PREFERENCE processing and includes a couple of examples of
corner cases.
Please note - if you do provision examples like that, we will find you
and trouble may ensue :).
Seriously, there are no editorial changes, but this should be a bit
clearer, which is the whole point of this document.

all the best,
  Lawrence & Kazunori

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Telephone Number Mapping Working Group of the IETF.

	Title : ENUM Implementation Issues and Experiences
	Author(s)       : L. Conroy, K. Fujiwara
	Filename        : draft-ietf-enum-experiences-11.txt
	Pages           : 31
	Date            : 2008-11-20

This document captures experience in implementing systems based on
the ENUM protocol, and experience of ENUM data that have been created
by others. As such, it clarifies the ENUM and Dynamic Delegation
Discovery System standards. Its aim is to help others by reporting
what is "out there" and the potential pitfalls in interpreting the
set of documents that specify the protocol. It does not revise the
standards, but it is intended to provide technical input to future
revisions of those documents.

The purpose of a working group Last Call is in the style of "speak now or
forever hold your peace" in case there are fundamental objections which have
not gotten previous or adequate discussion, or minor errors which need
correction.

Work group last call will extend for 2 weeks or so from today Dec 5 2008
until though we can modify that if new issues come up.

Ha!

Found a mistake:

Looks like there is a first name / last name mixup.
