1. Who's planning to come?

2. Please submit suggested agenda items

3. To start the discussion, here are a few items I'd like to see on the
menu:

- Meta-discussion: How far are we from having something to send the IESG?
There are a few items labeled "task" on our issues list, maybe we can get
volunteers
- Regexps - I think we wanted a proposal from Cabo?
- Candidate issues:
-- Should list selectors allow filter selectors? #150
-- Normalized Paths and normalization #155
-- Have we decided whether we're going to have function notation in our
v1.0?

I will be there, of course ...

I'm glad to see the draft approaching a stable version, thanks to Carsten's regex work, and would like to discuss following points ...

* Addressing object and array indexes (https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/issues/156)

* Making '@' optional (https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/issues/162)

* Let's discuss functions ... how could an extension point here look like ?

* Is there a policy for RFCs mentioning related standards? (https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/issues/161)

* Making output of normalized pathes mandatory in the spec ... line up ABNF with the rest ?

* Is there value in defining the term "singular path" in the spec ?

* Let's finally agree on (not) supporting equality comparisons of structured values. (https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/pull/145)

Here is my input on the agenda items proposed by Tim and Stefan. This
partly a note to myself, but it might also help in discerning consensus on
particular points. I raised a couple of PRs too.

I'd like to understand what the criteria are for sending the spec to the
IESG. E.g. what state does iregexp have to be in, does the spec need to be
virtually complete or is nearing completion ok?

The issues currently labelled "task" are:

https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/issues/148
In-line examples:
https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/issues/136

Security items:

#25 looks the least decided to me. #69 and #136 might turn out to be a bit
of a memory test.

- Regexps - I think we wanted a proposal from Cabo?

I think PR 163
<https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/pull/163>
suffices for the JSONPath spec. But more work is, of course, needed on the
iregexp spec.

- Candidate issues:

I think so. See
https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/pull/165.

-- Normalized Paths and normalization #155

I believe the only loose end in #155 was to introduce Singular Paths. See
https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/pull/164.

I'm not convinced the cost outweighs the benefit, but I could live with a
different consensus.

* Addressing object and array indexes

* Making '@' optional

* Is there a policy for RFCs mentioning related standards?

I'd prefer NOT to mandate this behaviour.

* Is there value in defining the term "singular path" in the spec ?

Yes, I think so. See
https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/pull/164.

* Let's finally agree on (not) supporting equality comparisons of
structured values.

round each of them. Maybe we can discuss some specific examples tomorrow.

Now that we are entering the final straight and have rough consensus on
most remaining items, I think we should aim for relatively short-lived
and/or small PRs to maximise spec velocity and to avoid the need to rebase
(with the possibility of making mistakes).

Take the current PR 164 on Singular Paths and the newly raised issue 166,
for example. These could easily tread on each other's toes since they need
to edit the same area of the spec.

So I'd like to propose that we merge PRs early and raise issues to cover
any outstanding work that needs to be done. In this case, we need to
finalise whether to allow non-singular paths in existence checks. But
rather than hold up PR 164, I propose we merge the PR now and open an issue
to cover the outstanding work. This will allow immediate progress on issue
166 while we are deciding on how to handle the new issue.

Similarly, I'd like to propose that we use multiple, small PRs where
appropriate (e.g. on issue 136 "In-line examples") to minimise conflicts.
In such cases, I would probably use "to do" lists in the corresponding
issues to keep track of what remains to be done.

Carsten: as the other main active editor, are you comfortable with this
approach?

Everyone: are you comfortable with this kind of faster iterative approach?
Occasionally, it may mean that you have to raise an issue if something is
merged before you have had a chance to comment on a PR.

Regards,
Glyn

I've been through my notes from today's interim WG meeting and raised two
issue, both labelled as tasks:* Reorganise and refactor list and filter
selector sections (issue 166
<https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/issues/166>)
- quick/editorial, assigned to me
* Improve filter selector section (issue 167
<https://github.com/ietf-wg-jsonpath/draft-ietf-jsonpath-base/issues/167>)
- more work required, currently unassigned

Just to note, it seems to me that a number of the posts under Issues
on the github site could more properly be considered questions or
ideas that do not need to be tracked, unlike real issues.

About a year ago, there was a suggestion on this list to enable the
github discussions tab on the github site, which is simply a matter of
checking this box in Settings -> General.

[x] Discussions

Discussions is the space for your community to have conversations, ask
questions and post answers without opening issues.

There was no follow up at the time. Perhaps that could be reconsidered?

Best regards,
Daniel

We did this on the JSON Schema repo.=C2=A0 User response was 50/50.=C2=A0 P=
eople ended up using discussions to discuss spec proposals, which could rig=
htly be issues, and they still used issues to ask questions in issues.=C2=
=A0 The end result was to have both kinds of content in both areas.
This experience has led me to decide against enabling discussions on my per=
sonal repos.=C2=A0 I figured it's just easier to have everything in one pla=
ce if the majority of people aren't going to be using the feature.=C2=A0 An=
d there's not really a good place to document which is for what kind of dis=
course.
I think discussions and issues are basically the same thing except that dis=
cussions has minimal support for threads.
Something to consider.

If we enable github discussions, presumably some will happen there which
would have happened here. Since github is proprietary, I think there is a
better chance of discussions on this mailing list being available for
posterity. So I'd prefer not to enable github discussions.

My gut feeling was that exactly that would be happening here as well.
As Glyn says, we already have a nice threaded discussion medium (the =

Folks,
This is your reminder if you intend on attending our next interim =
meeting in May to please signal your availability on the poll if you =
haven't yet as at time of writing only one person has done so.

https://doodle.com/meeting/organize/id/zbqXqV3a

I will close the poll by the end of week. If the times in the poll =
aren't suitable, please reply with suggested alternatives.

Thanks
