There are a bunch of research papers out there that are interesting for =
the WG. Would it make sense to create kind of an informational document =
with pointers to the papers and a summary of the main results?

Or you are suggesting a different document for each open issue?

A new Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Locator/ID Separation Protocol Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Locator/ID Separation Protocol (LISP)
    Author(s) : D. Farinacci, et al
    Filename : draft-ietf-lisp-16.txt
    Pages : 92
    Date : 2011-11-04

This draft describes a network-based protocol that enables separation
of IP addresses into two new numbering spaces: Endpoint Identifiers
(EIDs) and Routing Locators (RLOCs). No changes are required to
either host protocol stacks or to the "core" of the Internet
infrastructure. LISP can be incrementally deployed, without a "flag
day", and offers traffic engineering, multi-homing, and mobility
benefits to early adopters, even when there are relatively few LISP-
   capable sites.

Design and development of LISP was largely motivated by the problem
statement produced by the October 2006 IAB Routing and Addressing
   Workshop.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-lisp-16.txt

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP at:
ftp://ftp.ietf.org/internet-drafts/

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

These seem to suggest two or more additional milestones, along the general =
lines of

- Summarize results of specifying, implementing, and testing LISP and forwa=
rd to IESG and/or IRTF.

and

- Analyze and document the implications of LISP on etc etc and explain blah=
blah. Forward to IESG for publication.

(This partly echoes Yakov's earlier comment.)

(I can't speak for Jari of course, but...)

I'm not fussed about how many documents are produced. What I do think is d=
esirable is to close the open issues in some way. This could be in an omni=
bus document that cites other papers as you describe, or separately. The m=
ain thing would be to allow the reader to relate a given "needs experimenta=
tion" placeholder to the experimental results and conclusion. I think this=
can be phrased broadly enough in the list of milestones that it doesn't ti=
e the hands of the chairs in deciding what documents to produce.

I also expect that as issues are resolved, it would make sense to update th=
e base spec wherever there's now a "needs experimentation" placeholder. In=
fact, that could be an explicit goal and milestone of its own. =20

=A0 This document provides an update of RFC 2460[RFC2460] in order to
=A0 improve the performance of IPv6 in an increasingly important use
=A0 case, the use of tunneling to carry new transport protocols. =A0The
=A0 performance improvement is obtained by relaxing the IPv6 UDP checksum
=A0 requirement for suitable tunneling protocol where header information
=A0 is protected on the "inner" packet being carried. =A0This rel=
axation
=A0 removes the overhead associated with the computation of UDP checksums
=A0 on tunneled IPv6 packets and thereby improves the efficiency of the
=A0 traversal of firewalls and other network middleware by such new
=A0 protocols. =A0We describe how the IPv6 UDP checksum requirement can be
=A0 relaxed in the situation where the encapsulated packet itself
=A0 contains a checksum, the limitations and risks of this approach, and
=A0 provides restrictions on the use of this relaxation to mitigate these
=A0 risks.

The IESG has received a request from the Locator/ID Separation Protocol
WG (lisp) to consider the following document:
- 'Locator/ID Separation Protocol (LISP)'
  <draft-ietf-lisp-16.txt> as an Experimental RFC

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits
final comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the
ietf@ietf.org mailing lists by 2011-11-30. Exceptionally, comments may be
sent to iesg@ietf.org instead. In either case, please retain the
beginning of the Subject line to allow automated sorting.

Abstract

   Workshop.

IESG discussion can be tracked via

LISP-DDT is a new mechanism for creating a distributed index of a LISP
EID-to-RLOC mapping information. It is a potential replacement for LISP+ALT
with greater flexibility in supporting additional EID formats, instances IDs
to differentiate between overlapping numbering spaces, and other features.
It is realized through relatively simple extensions to the LISP protocol.

This draft describes the LISP Delegated Database Tree (LISP-DDT), a
hierarchical, distributed database which embodies the delegation of
authority to provide mappings from LISP Endpoint Identifiers (EIDs)
to Routing Locators (RLOCs). It is a statically-defined distribution
of the EID namespace among a set of LISP-speaking servers, called DDT
nodes. Each DDT node is configured with an EID-prefix that it "owns"
plus information, including the RLOCs for Map Servers or other DDT
nodes for each defined more-specific EID-prefix of the "owned"
   prefix.
