submitted as a draft, to which wg would it go? Or is informational
sufficient?

Ideally, someone well versed in a variety of usual and unusual MIB
structures should be willing to review the document.

And iirc I have asked you (and others) several times if you could not
try to write a draft how MIB objects/rows could be transported over COPS-PR.
Any chance you're ever gonna try?

There is always COPS-PR :)

David,

There are two MIB modules in RAQMON. I believe that you are not
referring to the RAQMON MIB module, but rather to the RAQMON-RDS-MIB
module, defined
http://www.ietf.cnri.reston.va.us/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-rmonmib-raq
mon-pdu-10.txt.

Regards,

Dan

Hi Ravinder,

I am not sure that this is available with all vendors but with Cisco
gear we have the CISCO-BULK-FILE-MIB that will allow you to collect
interface counters and save it a file on the agent. The agent can notify
on completion of collection and you can pull the file using
CISCO-FTP-CLIENT-MIB.

Please look at
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SNMP/bulk_file_mib.html

Regards,
  kaushik!

Hi,

You might to look at the RAQMON MIB module in the RMON WG.

I have seen a leading platform brought to its knees by agents that
"pushed" data faster than the application could process.

SNMP was designed using the trap-directed polling model, rather than
the push model. By sending a notification to the manager to say "I
have information available", this gives the manager the option of
waiting before retrieving the info, or choosing to retrieve only
portions of the data at one time. This provides a type of
manager-driven flow control, and applications are commonly written to
consider this. Of course, it also makes the transaction more
complicated for both sides.

I think fewer agents are designed to support the push model with some
sort of flow control.

Take a look at draft-glenn-mo-aggr-mib-06.txt which has some of what
you're looking for in it. Unfortunately, the forward path for it was
through the EOS WG which has long since closed. I still thought it
was useful though.

The DISMAN-EVENT-MIB sort of implements a push model. Is this what
you mean?

To answer your question, I think some more detail is needed what
precisely you mean with "push model" in the context of SNMP. My
interpretation of this phrase might not be yours.

For those who are interested in SNMP traversing firewalls, and enjoyed
the antics of ISMS, there is now a mailing list and a draft available.

The mailing list is call-home@ietf.org and can be subscribed to from the
following web page: https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/call-home

The draft is draft-lear-callhome-description-00.txt. It's drafty. I
solicit your comments and participation on the mailing list.

Eliot

Dear all,

I hope you all enjoyed the summer (a great time for academics to write
papers and research proposals ;-). I like to followup on our meeting
we had in Nancy before the summer IETF. Looking at the minutes again,
I read the following:

: How to proceed with respect to the various proposals:
:
: 1) Juergen does not yet sufficiently understand this idea, and asked
: Michael to create a document that explains this idea a bit better
: and provides examples. Initiative taken by Michael, Dan is also
: interested.
:
: 2) VoIP metric framework could be an article for IEEE Communications
: Magazine or IEEE Surveys and Tutorials). Initiative taken by Amy,
: Dan and others.
:
: 3) Fault incident report. Initiative taken by Henning.
:
: 4) Fault isolation / Diagnostic procedures. Initiative taken by Henning.
:
: 5) Management implications of VoIP business models. Initiative taken
: by Aiko.

It would be nice if people can report what has been done so far or
what the plans are to get things moving forward.

Thanks,

/js
