Call for Presentations
5th Workshop on the Usage of Netflow/IPFIX in Network Management
(30th NMRG meeting)

Location: Berlin, Germany
Date:
Planned to take place in the week of the IETF meeting (Jul 29-Aug 2)
depending on the time slots granted to the NMRG. Otherwise, probably
    on Sunday, July 28th.

Flow-based approaches are used in various areas of network management
today, such as link monitoring, accounting, and security. As in the
previous years, the goal of this workshop is to be a place where
researchers, operators and manufacturers can exchange and discuss their
experiences and ideas in theusage of Netflow/IPFIX in network
management.
Topics of interest are new applications of flows in the above mentioned
and other areas, practical experiences, recent developments, as well as
related topics such as:
   - flow processing and storage techniques
   - flow learning and classification techniques
   - visualization of flow data
   - flow software and hardware projects and tools

We want the workshop to be an opportunity for people to exchange and
discuss their experiences and ideas. Presentations typically last around
20 minutes (depending on the number of accepted presentations), followed
by discussion rounds.

To propose a presentation, please send a short abstract (15 lines) to
    Ramin Sadre, rsadre@cs.aau.dk
    Aalborg University
before
    July 2nd, 2013.

Please also contact us as soon as possible if you want to attend the
workshop without giving a presentation.

Hello Ramin,

I would like to give a presentation on:

Title: NFQL: A tool for querying network flow-records.

Abstract:

Cisco=92s NetFlow protocol and IETF=92s IPFIX open standard are the widely
deployed techniques for collecting network flow statistics. Understanding
certain patterns in these network statistics requires sophisticated flow
analysis tools that can efficiently mine flow records. We recently proposed
Network Flow Query Language (NFQL) that can process flow records, aggregate
them into groups, apply absolute or relative filters, and invoke Allen
interval algebra rules to merge group records. In this presentation, we
introduce and demo an efficient implementation of the query language. The
tool can process traces exported by NetFlow v5 and IPFIX protocols. The=20
processing power of the execution engine has also been evaluated by a=20
suite of benchmarks against contemporary flow-processing tools.=20

CALL FOR PAPERS

Special Issue of the International Journal on Network Management (IJNM):
"Flow-based Approaches in Network Management:
Recent Advances and Future Trends"

Submission Deadline: October 15, 2013
Publication: June, 2014

Scope of the Special Issue

The continuous increase of line speeds and loads in modern computer
networks has considerably stimulated the usage of aggregation-based
monitoring techniques for network management in the past years. Amongst
those, flow-based approaches have become extremely popular among
researchers and operators due to the wide availability of hardware and
software flow exporters and their quasi-standardized exporting formats,
such as Netflow or IPFIX. While flow-based monitoring was originally
used in simple diagnosing and accounting tasks, researchers are now
proposing flow-based approaches for a wide range of application fields,
such as intrusion detection, traffic classification, and resource
management. New environments, such as Clouds or Software Defined
Networks, demand for new flow-based solutions for their monitoring and
management. Furthermore, we observe more and more attempts to close the
gap between packet-based and flow-based monitoring. As the latter was
originally proposed as an efficient and feasible alternative to deep
packet inspection in high-speed networks, the most recent flow exporters
allow enriching the exported flow data with application-layer
information. It can be expected that this will lead to new approaches
and solutions for network management problems.

The goal of this Special Issue is to present innovative flow-based
approaches and solutions for network management tasks as well as new
methods and technologies for the generation, processing and analysis of
flow information. Therefore, this Special Issue of the International
Journal on Network Management covers ongoing research on the usage of
flow-based approaches, on the design and implementation of flow
monitoring devices and infrastructures, and on the emerging trends in
flow-based technologies and applications. Tutorial-style articles in
these fields are also solicited, if they provide a structured
introduction and a clear overview of state-of-the-art technologies,
mechanisms, or architectures, and newly emerging challenges as well as
problems.

Areas of Interest

Contributions in the following areas are of specific interest, but not
limited to:
* Flow-Based Accounting
* Flow-Based Intrusion and Anomaly Detection
* Flow-Based Problem Diagnosis
* Flow-Based Traffic Classification
* Flow-Based Monitoring of Applications and Services
* Usage of Flow Monitoring in Cloud Environments
* Flow-based Monitoring for Bandwidth Allocation
* Visualization of Flow Data
* Characterization of Network Traffic on Flow Level
* Hybrid Packet-Flow-Based Approaches
* Efficient Storage and Analysis of Flow Data
* Design and Implementation of Flow Monitoring Equipment and Infrastructure=
s
* Future Trends in Flow Monitoring
* Interaction between IPFIX and SDN
* Special-purpose management scenarios

Call for Papers
2nd International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications
(ICCASA 2013)
--
Conference dates: 25-26 november 2013
Conference website: http://iccasa.org/2013
Venue: Saigon-Phu Quoc Resort (http://www.vietnamphuquoc.com/) in Phu Quoc,
Vietnam
Submission deadline: 31 July 2013
--

The ICCASA 2013 jointly organized by EAI, Nguyen Tat Thanh University
(NTTU), and KienGiang Department of Information and Communications (KGDIC)
is a place for highly original ideas about how context-awareness is going
to shape networked computing systems of the future. Hence, it focuses on
rigorous approaches and cutting-edge solutions which break new ground in
dealing with the properties of context-awareness. Its purpose is to make a
formal basis more accessible to researchers, scientists, professionals and
students as well as developers and practitioners in ICT by providing them
with state-of-the-art research results, applications, opportunities and
future trends.

For this second edition, we hope to repeat the success of previous year,
when the conference received many papers and the participation of a large
number of students, researchers, and professionals from all over the world.

For more information, please see the link http://iccasa.org/2013.
