CALL FOR PAPERS

TRAC 2014 -- 5th International Workshop on TRaffic Analysis and
Characterization
Technically Sponsored by IEEE and FP7 mPlane
August 4-8 2014
Nicosia, CYPRUS
http://trac2014.ftw.at/

SCOPE

The continued evolution of the Internet is characterized by dramatic
changes in the way users behave, interact with and use the network.
Today's Internet content and applications are increasingly delivered by
ever larger content delivery networks (CDNs) and cloud infrastructures.

Other changes in the Internet, such as the explosion of mobile traffic
and the growing deployment of encryption (e.g. HTTPS Everywhere) demand
new approaches for characterizing and analyzing network traffic.
Malicious and abusive traffic continues to evolve as well, and
techniques for detection must evolve in kind.

The fifth edition of the TRAC workshop continues to serve as a forum for
scientists and engineers in academia and industry to exchange and
discuss their experiences and research results about all aspects of
traffic classification, characterization, and analysis.

TOPICS

The workshop is soliciting high quality papers discussing original and
innovative experimental activities, unpublished and not currently
submitted for publication elsewhere, on topics including (but not
limited) to the following:

* Traffic analysis and characterization algorithms and techniques
* Detection, analysis, and classification of network anomalies
* Platforms for on-line, real-time traffic analysis and characterization
* Evaluation of traffic classification and analysis techniques
* Data-reduction techniques for traffic analysis and visualization
* Privacy-preservation in traffic analysis, classification, and
characterization
* Effects of anonymization on traffic analysis, classification, and
characterization
* Identification and classification of encrypted traffic
* Advanced algorithms for deep packet inspection
* Post-DPI approaches for traffic classification
* Applications of traffic analysis to network security
* Traffic analysis studies on operational networks and large-scale
traffic data sets
* Applications of traffic analysis to network operations and management
* Ultra-high rate (10 - 100Gbit) traffic analysis, classification, and
characterization
* Analysis and characterization of mobile and wireless traffic
* Forwarding-plane support for network measurement and analysis

SUBMISSIONS

Prospective authors are invited to submit their papers using the EDAS
system.
Submitted papers must be no longer than six (6) IEEE style pages
including results, figures and references. Papers will be reviewed by
the standard reviewing procedure.
Accepted papers will be published on the IEEE Xplore Digital Library

Abstract:
This document describes a problem statement and general requirements
for distributed autonomous configuration of multiple aspects of
networks, in particular carrier networks. The basic model is that
network elements need to negotiate configuration settings with each
other to meet overall goals. The document describes a generic
negotiation behavior model. The document also reviews whether
existing management and configuration protocols may be suitable for
   autonomic networks.

                  CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
=20
Autonomics for Network Management =96 Part II
=20
33rd Network Management Research Group (NMRG) meeting
        IETF 89 - March 2-7, 2014 - London, England

=20
Over the last couple of years, Autonomics has gained a lot
attention in both academia and industry. After the initial
"buzz", the basic concepts of autonomics remain extremely
promising in the area of networking, in particular when
considering the flexibility provided by the emerging
technologies in virtualization and software-defined
networking (SDN). In this context, the 32nd NMRG meeting,
held in IETF 88 (in Vancouver), was focused on Autonomics
for Network Management. The promising discussing started at
that meeting will continue in the NMRG 33rd meeting, in
London, during IETF 89.
=20
=20
We invite interested speakers to briefly describe their
potential talks in reaction to this call informing title,
speaker names, and topic. NMRG is specially interested, but
not limited, in the topics listed below:
=20
- Real world experiences on using autonomic principles in
  network management;
=20
- Autonomic frameworks/architectures devoted or adapted to
  network management;
=20
- Lessons learned, both positive and negative, on using
  autonomics for network management;
=20
- Disruptive and incremental deployment of autonomic
  principles in traditional network management solutions;
=20
- Novel or adapted protocols for autonomic management;

- Autonomics for the management of emerging networking
paradigms (eg ICN, SDN, DCN, etc.)
=20
=20
Contributions should be submitted via e-mail to the NMRG
mailing list (nmrg@irtf.org).

Best regards,
=20

Hi,

This is advance warning of a draft to be submitted by the deadline,
and a request for discussion in London.

The title of the draft will be something like "Gap Analysis for
Autonomous Networking" and it will be coordinated with
draft-irtf-nmrg-autonomic-network-definitions (with overlapping authors).=

The Abstract will be something like
"This document summarises a problem statement for an IP-based autonomic
network that is mainly based on distributed network devices. The document=

reviews the history and status of autonomic aspects of IP networks. It th=
en
reviews the current network management style, which is still heavily
depending on human operators. The document describes the general gaps
between the ideal autonomic network concept and the current network
abilities."

This touches on several of the topics on your list.

Regards
   Brian Carpenter
