Hi,

what's the status here? Personally, I'd be happiest if this found a home =
in the IETF. I'd also be OK if the IESG and/or OPSAWG think that it is =
OK for the NMRG to publish this. I'm less OK with this hanging in =
perpetual limbo.

Thanks,
Lars

Hi,
I am also a coauthor and support this draft to be advanced. In addition to
Alex's words, this I-D is one of the use cases presented in the UCAN BoF
(which ultimately leaded to ANIMA creation).
We, the authors, have plans to proceed the work on the I-D topic in ANIMA
(as an ASA), but current ANIMA charter is very clear about the work items,
thus we are waiting for the recharter.
Best.

Hi,

I think this is ready to go forward. I do have one suggestion, but it's
optional.

We have made some good progress in defining the elements of the autonomic
network infrastructure in Anima. If the authors feel like some more work,
extending section 7.2 (Interaction with other devices) to suggest how
a corresponding ASA might map to the Anima model would be very interesting.
We've done that in some detail for one of the other early use cases
(sections 5 and 6, draft-ietf-anima-prefix-management-02), but that is a
much simpler case.

This would involve describing, at least in outline or with invented examples,
the data elements that ASAs would exchange with each other as GRASP objectives.

Regards
   Brian Carpenter

                        Special Issue of the
International Journal on Network Management (IJNM) on
Security for Emerging Open Networking Technologies

Submission deadline: March 1st, 2017
Publication: September 2017

Emerging open networking technologies and paradigms, such as
Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization
(NFV), and programmable networks, are reshaping the way networks are
designed, deployed, and managed. The benefits are manifold, including
an unprecedented flexibility for network operation and management, and
a favorable environment for delivering innovative network applications
and services. However, this paradigm shift brings a multitude of
security challenges that have to be addressed in order to=E2=80=AFprovide
secure, trustworthy, and privacy-preserving data communication and
network services. Addressing these=E2=80=AFchallenges may require not only
revisiting existing solutions (e.g., for intrusion detection, privacy
preserving, and resilience against attacks), but also designing novel
security and resilience schemes tailored to=E2=80=AFthe specific design of
open networking technologies and infrastructures.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Topics of Interest:

This special issue of the International Journal of Network Management
aims to put focus on the state-of-the-art advances, contributions and
solutions to security-related challenges arising with emergent open
networking technologies. We seek new and unpublished contributions
addressing issues in the Security for Emerging Open Network
Technologies including, but not limited to:
- Secure and resilient design and deployment of=E2=80=AFopen networking
technologies
- Privacy-preserving solutions
- Security models and threats
- Security and privacy properties and policies
- Verification and enforcement of security properties
- Trust and identity management
- NFV-based security functions and services
- Security of software-defined infrastructures, protocols and
interfaces
- Security and availability management
- Security for Internet of Things
- Intrusion detection, tolerance, and prevention
- Network forensics and auditing
- Detection and resilience against large-scale distributed attacks
- Security of programmable components
- Security-related business and legal aspects
- Security challenges and trends for open networking technologies

Dear NMRG,

We have requested a session to meet at IETF98/Chicago.

The envisaged topic for the meeting is "Next steps in Autonomic
Networking", and aims at assessing what has been progressed over the
past years in this field (incl. in the ANIMA WG) and what challenges and
gaps remain, especially from a research perspective.

We will issue a Call for Contributions soon, but you can already express
your interest to participate and/or present by replying directly to the
NMRG chairs (or on the list).

We will confirm the meeting based on the level of interest (so please
react!) and also taking into account your ability / willingness to come
to Chicago (USA) for the IETF98 week (according to the recent travel
policy issued by the USA's administration). Remote participation is planned.

Best regards, Lisandro and Laurent.

Hi Brian.
Thanks for your suggestion and support.
We believe that it is best to stick to the current content of the draft,
but we think that an ASA description can be interesting as an ANIMA I-D.
Best.
