A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Network Management of the IETF.

Title : Autonomic Networking Use Case for Distributed Detection of SLA Violations
        Authors : Jeferson Campos Nobre
                          Lisandro Zambenedetti Granvile
                          Alexander Clemm
                          Alberto Gonzalez Prieto

	Pages : 13
	Date : 2017-06-07

Abstract:
This document describes a use case for autonomic networking
concerning monitoring of Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The use
case aims to detect violations of SLAs in distributed fashion,
striving to optimize the autonomic deployment of active measurement
probes in a way that maximizes the likelihood of detecting service
level violations without any outside guidance or intervention.

Hi all,=20

We posted an updated draft in response to the review comments that were re=
ceived. =20

The changes are as follows: =20

- We have extended the abstract.
- We have extended the AN acronym and added RFC 7575 as reference
- We updated section 4 with additional explanatory text to mention that the=
re is potentially a budget with regards to the total amount of measurement =
traffic on the network, and explaining that however in general the gating f=
actor will be the resource budget at the network device, because it is the =
one that has to generate the synthetic test traffic, receive the traffic th=
at is reflected back in response, and assess the service levels. =20
- We have expanded text in section 5
- We have updated section 5 on user and administrator experience. =20
- We have renamed section 7 "Implementation Considerations". =20
- We have overhauled section 12 (Security Considerations). =20

Kind regards
--- Alex (on behalf of coauthors)

Call for Presentations
Workshop on Measurement-Based Network Management
(43rd NMRG meeting)

Location: Prague, Czech Republic
Date: Monday morning, July 17, 2017 at 9:30
Venue: IETF 99 Meeting in Prague.

Measurement-based approaches are widely used in network management, such as
for link monitoring, accounting and security. As in the previous years, the
goal of this workshop is to be a place where researchers, operators and
manufactures can exchange and discuss their experiences and ideas in the
usage of measurements for network management.

Topics of interest are new applications of measurements in the above
mentioned and other areas, practical experiences, and recent developments,
for example:
 - NetFlow/IPFIX and other flow technologies
 - measurements for security management
 - visualization of measurement data
 - measurement software and hardware projects and tools
 - measurements in software-defined networks
 - measurement-based management of Internet of Things (IoT)
 - measurement-based management of specific environments, such as mobile networks
   or datacenters

Presentations typically last around 20 minutes (depending on the number of
accepted presentations), followed by discussion rounds.

To propose a presentation, please send a short abstract (~10 lines) to the
workshop chairs Ramin Sadre (ramin.sadre@uclouvain.be) and Ricardo de O. Schmidt
(r.schmidt@utwente.nl) by
     July 3rd, 2017.

You might also be interested to take a look at the program and minutes of
previous NMRG meetings and workshops:

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Network Management of the IETF.

Title : Autonomic Networking Use Case for Distributed Detection of SLA Violations
        Authors : Jeferson Campos Nobre
                          Lisandro Zambenedetti Granvile
                          Alexander Clemm
                          Alberto Gonzalez Prieto

	Pages : 15
	Date : 2017-06-25

Abstract:
This document describes a use case for autonomic networking
concerning monitoring of Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The use
case aims to detect violations of SLAs in a distributed fashion,
striving to optimize and dynamically adapt the autonomic deployment
of active measurement probes in a way that maximizes the likelihood
of detecting service level violations with a given resource budget to
perform active measurements, and is able to do so without any outside
   guidance or intervention.

Could the authors clarify what they mean by Autonomous System?
Is this intended in the precise sense of a BGP4 AS or in a more
general way?

This is important for the applicability of the ANIMA solutions to
this use case, since it is hard to imagine an ANIMA Autonomic Control
Plane extending beyond a single BGP4 AS, and certainly not beyond
a single administrative domain.

Have the authors already studied the applicability of the ANIMA
solutions?

Yes, AS in the I-D can be read as a BGP AS. In any case, we are just
describing a active measurement model at this point.

Agreed, but the solution described in our I-D considers cooperative peers.
Thus, it is safe to say that it targets single administrative domains which
means that the ACP could be used.

We did not study the applicability of ANIMA solutions for this I-D, but we
have plans to do in a new one if a new ANIMA charter allow such possibility=
