                              CALL FOR PAPERS (Final)
                                NPSec 2009
5th Workshop on Secure Network Protocols
                      In conjunction with ICNP 2009
                             October 13, 2009
                        Princeton, New Jersey, USA
                   http://www.gtisc.gatech.edu/npsec09/

Scope:
The 5th workshop on Secure Network Protocols (NPSec) is a one-day event
held in conjunction with with the 17th IEEE International Conference on
Network Protocols (ICNP 2009). NPSec focuses on two general areas.
The first focus is on the development and analysis of secure or hardened
protocols for the operation (establishment and maintenance) of network
infrastructure, including such targets as secure multidomain, ad hoc, sensor
or overlay networks, or other related target areas. This can include new
protocols, enhancements to existing protocols, protocol analysis, and new
attacks on existing protocols. The second focus is on employing such secure
network protocols to create or enhance network applications. Examples include
collaborative firewalls, incentive strategies for multiparty networks, and
deployment strategies to enable secure applications.

NPSec 2009 particularly welcomes new ideas on security in the context of
future Internet design, such as architectural considerations for future
Internet security and new primitives for supporting secure network protocol
and application design.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
1. security in future Internet architectures
 - role of security in future architectures
 - integrating security into future protocols and applications
2. secure and/or resilient network protocols, e.g.:
- internetworking/routing
- MANETs
- LANs and WLANs
- mobile/cellular data networks
- p2p and other overlay networks
- federated trust systems
- sensor networks
3. vulnerabilities of existing protocols and applications (both theoretical and case studies), including attacks
4. key distribution/management
5. intrusion detection and response
6. incentive systems for p2p systems and MANETs routing
7. secure protocol configuration and deployment

The 3rd International Workshop on Peer-to-Peer Networked Virtual =
Environments
in conjunction with
The 15th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems =
(ICPADS 2009)
December 9 -11, 2009
Shenzhen, China=20

http://acnlab.csie.ncu.edu.tw/P2PNVE2009/

PURPOSE AND SCOPE=20
The rapid growth and popularity of networked virtual environments (NVEs) =
such as Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) in recent years have =
spawned a series of research interests in constructing large-scale =
virtual environments. For increasing scalability and decreasing the cost =
of management and deployment, more and more studies propose using =
peer-to-peer (P2P) architectures to construct large-scale NVEs for =
games, multimedia virtual worlds and other applications. The goal of =
such research is to support an Earth-scale virtual environment or to =
make hosting virtual worlds more affordable than existing client-server =
approaches. However, existing solutions for consistency control, =
persistent data storage, multimedia data dissemination, =
cheat-prevention, topology mismatching, and virtual world =
interoperability are not straightforwardly adapted to such new =
environments. Novel ideas and designs thus are needed to realize the =
potential of P2P-based NVEs.
=20
The 1st and the 2nd International Workshop on Peer-to-Peer Networked =
Virtual Environments were in conjunction with the 13th and 14th =
International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems in 2007 and =
2008, respectively. To adhere to the theme of P2PNVE workshops, the =
theme of P2PNVE 2009 is to solicit original and previously unpublished =
new ideas on general P2P schemes and on the design and realization of =
P2P-based NVEs. The workshop aims to facilitate discussions and idea =
exchanges by both academics and practitioners.

CALL FOR PAPERS
===============

Special Session on Scalable Adaptive Multicast in P2P Overlays
at IEEE Consumer Comunications and Networking Conference
www.ieee-ccnc.org
IEEE CCNC 2010 Jan 9-12 Las Vegas

The emergence of peer-to-peer networking enables new
applications that require efficient multicast communication.
These applications include peercasting of multimedia streams,
multi-party conferencing, multi-player games, and group chat.
Many consumer applications of multicasting involve small
groups of users, content streaming, mobility, hybrid transport
and other requirements not considered in previous systems.

Due to delayed deployment of native multicast, various
end-system, application layer (ALM) and overlay multicast
(OM) designs have been proposed. In the future, these protocols
are expected to coexist and integrate with native IP multicast
protocols while offering more flexible deployment options
and scaling to support a greater number of simultaneous
multicast groups. In addition these protocols need to
adapt to device capabilities and mobility.

The goal of this special session is to provide a forum
for engineers, architects, and researchers to share knowledge
and innovation in hybrid and adaptive P2P multicast techniques.
We solicit papers covering various topics of interest that
include (but are not limited to) the following:

Peer-to-peer overlays with multicast support
Small group multicast
Application Layer Multicast (ALM) techniques
Hybrid multicasting architectures
Comparitive analysis of ALM and OM architectures
Scalable integration of QoS mechanisms
Adaptive content distribution over P2P overlay multicast
Methods for large-scale group formation and discovery
Support for highly dynamic group membership
Support for mobility in P2P overlay multicast

All accepted submissions will be published in the
proceedings of IEEE CCNC 2010. More information
about the special session is available at
http://www.ieee-ccnc.org

Submission Instructions

Jeremy Mineweaser plans to step down as co-chair
of the RG due to changes in his responsibilities at
MIT Lincoln Labs which effect his ability to attend
IETF meetings and contribute to the work of the RG.

In seeking a new co-chair, the criteria Jeremy and I suggest
are: 1) ability to regularly participate in IETF meetings,
2) participation in past SAM RG meetings, 3) active
research in multicast protocols related to the SAM
charter, 4) enthusiasm for the work of the RG.

To that end Jeremy and I are pleased to recommend
Prof. Thomas Schmidt of Hamburg University to be
the new co-chair of the RG.

This is now an opportunity to discuss on the mailing list
the overall direction of the RG, how to increase the participation
and accelerate the progress towards completing the charter.

Hi John and all,

many thanks.
Personally our research group is highly interested in work on adaptive
multicast in overlay and underlay.

Just to share some opinions on how to progress SAM RG, I believe

  * we should have more meetings at IETFs, say at least 2 per year.
  * we should enforce the work on documents - problems and solutions -
for hybrid multicast
  * we should stimulate discussions and work on the API, general and robust
enough to support a large variety of group communication
  * we should take up or intensify interaction with related groups like
P2PSIP, ALTO, P2PRG, ...

There are quite some hot topics within the charter - it would be good to
take up some in Hiroshima.

Thomas
