#293: dubious HTML output for <xref>...</xref>

 The HTML output generated for

   See <xref target="anchor">foo</xref>.

 is inconsistent with the TXT output.

 (it also happens to be different from that the TCL tool and rfc2629.xslt
 generate). My recommendation is to create the same text content as when
 generating plain text, and to hyperlink the added Section number, as in:

   See foo (<a href="#...">Section x</a>).

#294: Reference library fails to include author altogether, without warning

 For multiple drafts, I fail to get listed as co-author in references of
 those drafts, although the address and author information seems fine in
 the drafts themselves.

 For example, quoting from
 http://xml2rfc.ietf.org/public/rfc/bibxml3/reference.I-D.ietf-avtext-rtp-
 grouping-taxonomy.xml:

 {{{
 <title>A Taxonomy of Grouping Semantics and Mechanisms for Real-Time
 Transport Protocol (RTP) Sources</title>
   <author fullname="Jonathan Lennox" surname="Lennox" initials="J">
     <organization/>
   </author>
   <author fullname="Kevin Gross" surname="Gross" initials="K">
     <organization/>
   </author>
   <author fullname="Suhas Nandakumar" surname="Nandakumar" initials="S">
     <organization/>
   </author>
   <author fullname="Gonzalo Salgueiro" surname="Salgueiro" initials="G">
     <organization/>
   </author>
   -- ... (omitting tags not applicable to this example)
   <format target="http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-avtext-
 rtp-grouping-taxonomy-06.txt" type="TXT"/>
 }}}

 The address text in the draft itself looks fine:

 {{{
    Bo Burman
    Ericsson
    Kistavagen 25
    SE-164 80 Stockholm
    Sweden

    Email: bo.burman@ericsson.com
 }}}

 The XML source looks like:

 {{{
     <author fullname="Bo Burman" initials="B." surname="Burman">
       <organization>Ericsson</organization>

       <address>
         <postal>
           <street>Kistavagen 25</street>

           <city>SE-164 80 Stockholm</city>

           <country>Sweden</country>
         </postal>

         <email>bo.burman@ericsson.com</email>
       </address>
     </author>
 }}}

 Another draft that has the same issue is https://tools.ietf.org/html
 /draft-ietf-mmusic-sdp-simulcast-00

 I think that, at the very least, the draft generation and checking tools
 should check and issue a warning for the author fields causing the author
 to not even be included in references to the draft.

 Bo

#294: Reference library fails to include author altogether, without warning

Comment (by henrik@levkowetz.com):

 For what it's worth, the ID author extraction tool, used by the
 datatracker on draft submission, seems to extract the authors correctly:

    In some application scenarios it may be desirable to send multiple
    differently encoded versions of the same media source in independent
    RTP streams. This is called simulcast. This document discusses the
    best way of accomplishing simulcast in RTP and how to signal it in
    SDP. A solution is defined by making an extension to SDP, and using
    RTP/RTCP identification methods to relate RTP streams belonging to
    the same media source. The SDP extension consists a new media level
    SDP attribute that express capability to send and/or receive
    simulcast RTP streams. One part of the RTP/RTCP identification
    method is included as a reference to a separate document, since it is
    useful also for other purposes.

#294: Reference library fails to include author altogether, without warning

Comment (by tony@att.com):

 The problem is with the 1id-*.txt generation. The entry for the above I-D
 looks like:

 {{{
 Audio/Video Transport Extensions (avtext)
 -----------------------------------------

   "A Taxonomy of Grouping Semantics and Mechanisms for Real-Time Transport
   Protocol (RTP) Sources", Jonathan Lennox, Kevin Gross, Suhas Nandakumar,
   Gonzalo Salgueiro, BoB, 2015-03-05,
   <draft-ietf-avtext-rtp-grouping-taxonomy-06.txt>
 }}}

 The citation generation tools choke on "BoB", which should be "Bo Burman".

#294: Reference library fails to include author altogether, without warning

Changes (by henrik@levkowetz.com):

 * status:  new => closed
 * resolution:   => fixed

Comment:

 The person record for Bo Burman in the datatracker had 'Ascii Short Name'
 as 'BoB', which overrides the ascii name in some contexts. I've removed
 that, which should make things work better during the next reference file
 generation run.

With xml2rfc 2.4.12:

Parsing file draft-bensley-tcpm-dctcp.xml
ERROR: Unable to parse the XML document: draft-bensley-tcpm-dctcp.xml

Earlier versions worked fine, and this is happening for all my IDs. Any =

#281: xml2rfc reference library screws up my real name

Changes (by tore@redpill-linpro.com):

 * status:  new => closed
 * resolution:   => invalid

Comment:

 I have discovered the reason for this problem. My user account was
 configured with an «ASCII SHORTNAME» value of "tore" at
 https://datatracker.ietf.org/accounts/profile/. After removing this,
 everything now looks OK. I am therefore closing this ticket as invalid.

 Tore

#292: subcompact oddity when turned on/off multiple times

Changes (by henrik@levkowetz.com):

 * status:  new => closed
 * resolution:   => fixed

Comment:

 Fixed in [1925]:

 Set things up so that the processing instrunction dictionary isn't shared
 between the index-building and the document-building runs, which they were
 earlier, with the result that pi values could be different at the start of
 the document-building than they should have been. Fixes issue #292.

#295: sort of references should disregard capitalization

 In the references section, when sortrefs="yes", the sort should be
 alphabetical without regard for capitalization. (Apparent exception is
 that RFCs get listed first, rather than being incorporated into the sort;
 that's fine.)

 This ticket is similar to #255 regarding the index. And perhaps related to
 the fix for #250.

 This example is from an author-submitted XML file.

#295: sort of references should disregard capitalization

Comment (by arusso@amsl.com):

 Correction. Should have been with sortrefs="yes".

 v2 output (not desired)
 {{{
    [IPSO]

    [OpenWSN]

    [OpenWSNETT]

    [RFC2205] etc. [all RFC entries]

    [TASA-PIMRC]

    [doherty07channel]

    [palattella12standardized]

    [tinka10decentralized]

    [watteyne09reliability]
 }}}

 Desired output as in the ticket (with RFCs incorporated).

 (Disregard my note about "apparent exception".)

#295: sort of references should disregard capitalization

Changes (by henrik@levkowetz.com):

 * status:  new => closed
 * resolution:   => fixed

Comment:

 Fixed in [1930]:

 Made the reference sorting when using symrefs=yes and sortrefs=yes case-
 insensitive by mapping the reference keys to lowercase. This is correct
 for ASCII keys but not necessarily for non-ASCII keys, depending on
 locale. Fixes issue #295 (for now).

I suspect that *disregard* capitalization isn't really quite right.
I expect that it should still be *regarded*, but differently than
standard ASCII collation:

- "A" and "a" should both precede "B", "b", "Z" and "z"
- "A" should precede "a".

If capitalization was entirely disregarded, then the ordering of "A" and
"a" would be indeterminate.

	Thanks,
	Paul

Comment (by julian.reschke@gmx.de):

#291: Replace scripts option with entry_points option in setup.py

Changes (by henrik@levkowetz.com):

 * status:  new => closed
 * resolution:   => fixed

Comment:

 Fixed in [1938]:

 Changed setup.py to use the entry_points option instead of the scripts
 option, in order to work better on mswin systems. Fixes issue #291.

Hi,

This announces the release of xml2rfc version 2.5.0, available for download
from:

   http://pypi.python.org/pypi/xml2rfc

Release notes:

xml2rfc (2.5.0) ietf; urgency=medium

  This release uses different installation settings than previous releases,
  which should make installation under MS Window easier. It also contains
  a few bugfixes. For details, see below:

  * Applied patches from julian.reschke@gmx.de: Render <eref target='uri'>
    without text as inline <uri>. Fixes issue #234.

  * Changed setup.py to use the entry_points option instead of the scripts
    option, in order to work better on mswin systems. Fixes issue #291.

  * Made the reference sorting when using symrefs=yes and sortrefs=yes
    case-insensitive by mapping the reference keys to lowercase. This is
    correct for ASCII keys but not necessarily for non-ASCII keys, depending on
    locale. Fixes issue #295 (for now).

  * Changed the path through reference resolution so that too old cached
    references will be updated in the same block where it was discovered that
    they were too old, rather than (erroneously) relying on this happening on
    a later attempt.

  * Set things up so that the processing instrunction dictionary isn't shared
    between the index-building and the document-building runs, which they were
   earlier, with the result that pi values could be different at the start of
    the document-building than they should have been. Fixes issue #292.

#286: No output with missing month in date

Comment (by julian.reschke@gmx.de):

 FWIW, the v2 behavior matches v1 (TCL).

 The XSLT code tries to emit a warning and will continue to process the
 file.

#286: No output with missing month in date

Changes (by henrik@levkowetz.com):

 * component:  Version 2 cli => Version 2 gui

Comment:

 Replying to [ticket:286 srdonovan@…]:
 > When date does not contain a month parameter the xml2rfc tool does the
 following:
 >
 > When using frames the following is output:
 >
 > The file is not there -- check for error messages or you may have
 clicked reload

 And the error messages say, if you scroll in the error frame:

 WARNING: No DTD given, defaulting to /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-
 packages/xml2rfc/templates/rfc2629.dtd
 WARNING: Incomplete and out-of date <date/> element: <date year="2010"/>

 This is followed by an exception; and that will be fixed. However, the
 major issue
 here is that the web GUI is hard to interpret.
 >
 > When using windows nothing is output.

 Also an issue with the web GUI :-(

 > When writing to a file and empty file is created.

 Well, this is incomplete. With an out-of-date year, that's what happens.
 With the current year provided, a text file with the current date is
 created.

 What is the correct action when an out-of-date year is given, and no month
 or day?
 I think it should give an error message, not create an exception, and not
 create
 a draft (as it would have a completely fictional date for the given year).

#286: No output with missing month in date

Comment (by julian.reschke@gmx.de):

 I believe a hard error with a clear error message is the best thing to do.

#296: prevent line breaks when seriesInfo/@name is DOI

 This is a request for preventing the line break after the "/" or after
 "DOI" in the text output and nroff output. Seems this could be handled as
 a special case when name="DOI".

 XML contains
 {{{
 <seriesInfo name='DOI' value='10.17487/RFC2119'/>
 }}}

 v2 output:
 {{{
    [RFC2119] Bradner, S., "Key words for use in RFCs to Indicate
               Requirement Levels", BCP 14, RFC 2119, DOI 10.17487/
               RFC2119, March 1997,
               <http://www.rfc-editor.org/info/rfc2119>.
 }}}

 Desired output:
 {{{
    [RFC2119] Bradner, S., "Key words for use in RFCs to Indicate
               Requirement Levels", BCP 14, RFC 2119,
               DOI 10.17487/RFC2119, March 1997,
               <http://www.rfc-editor.org/info/rfc2119>.
 }}}

Comment (by julian.reschke@gmx.de):

 I'd recommend not to worry about the TXT output that much.

#297: inconsistent handling of unknown spanx styles

 for unknown spanx styles, the HTML output defaults to italics (emph),
 while the text output inserts question marks. However, in txt output, the
 unknown styles should simply be ignored.
