An FYI and a proposal regarding <sourcecode> type are below. ("The value =
of this attribute is free text with certain values designated as =
preferred." - RFC 7991)

=46rom the FAQ:
> 7.9 What are the preferred values for the type of the <sourcecode> =
element?
>=20
> Please see the list on [1] =
https://www.rfc-editor.org/materials/sourcecode-types.txt.
> For details, see Section 2.48.4 of [RFC7991].

FYI, since RFC 7991, 'sdp' and 'yangtree' were added to [1].

Proposal: add 'enumerated' to the list, as described in Section 3.5 of =
RFC 8446 (https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc8446#section-3.5).

Use case: in Sections 3 and 4 of =
https://www.ietf.org/id/draft-bruckert-brainpool-for-tls13-07.txt. =
Example below.

Please let us know if this is not acceptable. Or, if something more =
general like 'datatype' is preferred.

Thanks,
Alice
--

example:

<sourcecode type=3D"enumerated">
           enum {
                brainpoolP256r1tls13(31),
                brainpoolP384r1tls13(32),
                brainpoolP512r1tls13(33)
           } NamedGroup;
</sourcecode>=

Hm. Is "enumerated" a *language*? Looking at RFC 8446, it seems to be
part of something called "Presentation Language", so I would assign a
name to that thing (such as "tls-presentation").

Yes, indeed. TLS presentation language. =E2=80=9Ctls-presentation=E2=80=9D=
 sounds like a fine abbrev for that.

My trial implementation of bibxml3 entries generated on-the-fly from the
datatracker database is now deployed.

I'd appreciate people trying it out.

Hi,

This is an automatic notification about a new xml2rfc release,
v2.35.0, generated when running the mkrelease script.

Release notes:

xml2rfc (2.35.0) ietf; urgency=medium

  * Changed the pn numbers for ToC entries to use 'section-toc.1-...'
    instead of 'section-boilerplate.3-...'.

  * Fixed schema and code so as to correctly show <name> entries with
    superscript (and more) in the ToC.

  * Added code to clean out instances of &nbsp; and other special
    characters when rendering ToC, title, xref and reference.

  * Eliminated postal address lines with only template content, i.e., no
    <postal> content, from output renderings.

  * Fixed a typo in the v2v3 converter which caused conversion of the
    tocdepth PI to fail.

  * Added handling of <sourcecode> name attributes which were too long to
    fit on the same line as the <CODE BEGINS> marker, and added a specific
    indentation setting for <sourcecode> within <section>, to avoid
    extra indentation.

  * For source code with markers and file name, only emit file name if
    actually set. Fixes an issue with the HTML renderer.

  * Added the same in-figure indent for sourcecode as for artwork, to avoid
    extra indentation.

  * Removed an extraneous leading comma in reference rendering for
    references without author information.

  * Added CSS for bottom margin after <sourcecode> rendering in print.

  * Added a missing conversion of attribute value 'no' to 'false' in the
    v2v3 converter.

  * Tweaked the text width when folding hang text.

  * Changed the location and method of checking and catching non-ascii
    characters in XML input declared with encoding='us-ascii'.

  * Added warnings for tabs in artwork and sourcecode.

  * Added a warning for long lines in v3 text ouput.

  * Added a new metadata.js file from the RPC, with copyright and license
    information and a code tweak.

  * Refactored extract_date() into one extraction function and one
    augmentation function, in order to render references with missing date info
    correctly. Also updated renderers to handle this case appropriately.

  * Fixed an inconsistency in requiring the ascii attribute for Latin
    script non-ascii names.

  * Corrected a buggy format string. Fixes issue #449.

  * Added an error if pn numbers are present in a file which is not marked
    with prepTime.

  * Corrected the indentation for <t> in table cells.

  * Fixed an issue with duplicate pn numbers for <t> in table cells.

The preferred way to install xml2rfc is by doing 'pip install xml2rfc',
and 'pip install --upgrade xml2rfc' to upgrade. If there are system-
installed python modules which pip will not upgrade, you may have to
use 'pip install --upgrade --no-deps xml2rfc' and install dependencies
manually.

The new version is also available through SVN checkout, with
  'svn checkout http://svn.tools.ietf.org/svn/tools/xml2rfc/tags/cli/2.35.0'

Regards,

	Henrik

I don't see a warning when running this version on
<ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/authors/rfc8679.xml>.

Am I missing something?

Hi Henrik

Thanks for your quick work on this. =20

Just fyi that I tested this =E2=80=94 the reference entry matches output =
from entries pointing to https://xml2rfc.ietf.org/public/rfc/bibxml3/, =
but I don=E2=80=99t think it=E2=80=99s solved the issue regarding having =
references for the most recent versions of the I-Ds. For example, when =
I use the following:=20

<xi:include =
href=3D"https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/bibxml3/reference.I-D.palet-v6ops=
-464xlat-opt-cdn-caches.xml"/>

I get a ref for -03, even though the datatracker shows =
draft-palet-v6ops-464xlat-opt-cdn-caches-04.=20

I also tried using the version number
<xi:include =
href=3D"https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/bibxml3/reference.I-D.palet-v6ops=
-464xlat-opt-cdn-caches-04.xml"/>

but I got the following error:
Error: Unable to resolve external request: =
"https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/bibxml3/reference.I-D.palet-v6ops-464xla=
t-opt-cdn-caches-04.xml"
Error: XInclude processing failed: could not load =
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/bibxml3/reference.I-D.palet-v6ops-464xlat=
-opt-cdn-caches-04.xml, and no fallback was found, line 1597
Unable to complete processing rfc8683.xml

Thanks,
Sandy=20

Umm. Yes, that's not the right form. You're probably getting an old cop=
y
from cache. The form available currently (I'm changing that to accept th=
e
form you used for the next release, based in part on your experience) is
this:

<xi:include href=3D"https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/bibxml3/draft-palet-=

=2E.. which (the correct form above) has -04 content.

Yes, same problem -- you're using
'reference.I-D.palet-v6ops-464xlat-opt-cdn-caches-04.xml' as part of the
URL, instead of 'draft-palet-v6ops-464xlat-opt-cdn-caches-04.xml'.

Hi Henrik,

Ahh, thanks! Apologies for assuming the string would still start with =
"reference.I-D=E2=80=9D. I=E2=80=99m happy to be rid of that =
construction, but it seems like a good idea to continue to accept =
"reference.I-D=E2=80=9D since that is what appears in the already =
published v3 RFCs.

I retested =E2=80=94 the only unexpected difference is the appearance of =
Jordi=E2=80=99s name in the references. See=20

https://www.rfc-editor.org/v3test/rfc8683.xml=20
https://www.rfc-editor.org/v3test/rfc8683-rfcdiff.html

Looking at this now, I question whether showing J. Palet is correct, but =
that is how his name has appeared in the references in the past.=20

Thanks,

I believe the correct surname for Jordi is 'Palet Martinez'. If one is
to omit one, omitting the maternal surname ('Martinez') is in my=20
understanding (usually) the correct thing to do for Spanish surnames, so
past usage seems acceptable.

I think we need to refine the name handling in the datatracker even more
to deal correctly with author names. With input in the form of xml
submissions, we will have better incoming data than before.

Best regards,

	Henrik
