(As AVTEXT WG chair)

The AVTEXT WG has a milestone:

Jun 2011 Submit Considerations for RAMS Scenarios for Informational =20

Which is meant to be the additional material in support of the RAMS documen=
tation.

We have author draft=20

http://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-begen-avt-rams-scenarios-00.txt

which I have requested Ali to revise.

If you wish to submit your own drafts for consideration as source material =
for this document, or have other ideas for inclusion that you wish to post =
to the mailing list, now would be an appropriate time to do that.

Regards

Keith=

(As WG chair)

I have seen no objections to the use of the text of these two drafts in ful=
filment of the milestones and therefore declare WG consensus on this questi=
on.

The WG chairs would like to ask Emil Ivov to act as editor for Submit RTP H=
eader extension for mixer to client audio level indication as Proposed Stan=
dard and submit the text as:

draft-ietf-avtext-mixer-to-client-audio-level-00

and Jonathan Lennox to act as editor for Submit RTP Header extension for cl=
ient to mixer audio level indication as proposed standard and submit the te=
xt as:

draft-ietf-avtext-client-to-mixer-audio-level-00

Note the existing author draft names are somewhat obscure as to the differe=
nce between the two documents hence the renaming.

Regards

Keith

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Audio/Video Transport Extensions Working Group of the IETF.

Title : A Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) Header Extension for Mixer-to- Client Audio Level Indication
	Author(s) : E. Ivov, et al.
	Filename : draft-ietf-avtext-mixer-to-client-audio-level-00.txt
	Pages : 13
	Date : 2011-02-18

This document describes a mechanism for RTP-level mixers in audio
conferences to deliver information about the audio level of the
individual participants. Such audio level indicators are transported
in the same RTP packets as the audio data they pertain to.

Title : A Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) Header Extension for Client-to- Mixer Audio Level Indication
	Author(s) : J. Lennox, et al.
	Filename : draft-ietf-avtext-client-to-mixer-audio-level-00.txt
	Pages : 10
	Date : 2011-02-18

This document defines a mechanism by which packets of Real-Time
Transport Protocol (RTP) audio streams can indicate, in an RTP header
extension, the audio level of the audio sample carried in the RTP
packet. In large conferences, this can reduce the load on an audio
mixer or other middlebox which wants to forward only a few of the
loudest audio streams, without requiring it to decode and measure
every stream that is received.

Hi,

Looking at this doc and it's "inverse" =
(draft-ietf-avtext-client-to-mixer-audio-level-00.txt )

I think both are in good shape and describe a very useful extension.=20

The V bit in the client to mixer is used to indicate that it is believed =
voice is present in the sample (to aid the mixer).=20

I think it would be good future-proofing to maintain this capability in =
the mixer to client case - to allow future implementations with cascaded =
mixers to take advantage of the V bit. (So instead of a MSB of 0, let =
this be the V bit).

Regards,=20

Peter Musgrave=
