802.1AX Ethernet link aggregation creates a *single* virtual 802.1 link.
Therefore LACP should never be referenced in an IP layer standard.

Hi Jeffery,
Yes, currently EVPN provides comprehensive active-active access solution. T=
he solution mainly includes two parts of DF election and split-horizon mech=
ansim. For the split-horizon mechanism, currently it will vary along with d=
ifferent transport layer technology. If the transport layer is MPLS, it rel=
ies on ESI Label for filtering. If the transport layer is VXLAN, it relies =
on source VTEP IP address for filtering.
For layer 3 VPN active-active access, it doesn't have the active-active sol=
ution. If it wants to realize similar active-active access procedures, it s=
hould design similar mechanism repeatedly.
So we think split-horizon mechanism should be removed from service layer to=
transport layer, it should be service agnostic. The split-horizon mechanis=
m should be inherent in BIER itself and should be shared for all multicast =
services over it.
Thanks,
weiguo

Weiguo,

Existing EVPN procedures is enough to avoid traffic duplication and achieve=
split-horizon, whether Ingress Replication, P2MP, or BIER "tunnels" are us=
ed.

Not sure why we need new signaling?

For EVPN with BIER, it happens that both ESI label and local-bias could be =
used.

Can you give an example? I had thought the RPF mechanism makes sure that tr=
affic only goes where it should go.

I think BIER, not split-horizon, should be service agnostic.

Even though you say L3 has a problem, you're proposing to signal ESI as par=
t of BIER signaling, and that is purely L2.

If you are claiming that a purely L2 issue is something that BIER must
deal with then your draft should be explicit on which standards allow
this problem to exist.
Under what conditions does the BIER layer have to augment duplication
elimination?

For the split-horizon mechanism, currently it will vary along with different transport layer technology. If the transport layer is MPLS, it relies on ESI Label for filtering. If the transport layer is VXLAN, it relies on source VTEP IP address for filtering.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Bit Indexed Explicit Replication Working Group of the IETF.

Abstract:
This document specifies a new architecture for the forwarding of
multicast data packets. It provides optimal forwarding of multicast
packets through a "multicast domain". However, it does not require a
protocol for explicitly building multicast distribution trees, nor
does it require intermediate nodes to maintain any per-flow state.
This architecture is known as "Bit Index Explicit Replication"
(BIER). When a multicast data packet enters the domain, the ingress
router determines the set of egress routers to which the packet needs
to be sent. The ingress router then encapsulates the packet in a
BIER header. The BIER header contains a bitstring in which each bit
represents exactly one egress router in the domain; to forward the
packet to a given set of egress routers, the bits corresponding to
those routers are set in the BIER header. Elimination of the per-
flow state and the explicit tree-building protocols results in a
   considerable simplification.

Abstract:

This document specifies a measurement method, the IP flow performance

measurement (IPFPM). With IPFPM, data packets are marked into

different blocks of markers by changing one or more bits of packets.

No additional delimiting packet is needed and the performance is

measured in-service and in-band without the insertion of additional

   traffic.

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submissio=
n until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

Abstract:
Bit Index Explicit Replication (BIER) is an architecture that
provides optimal multicast forwarding through a "BIER domain" without
requiring intermediate routers to maintain any multicast related per-
flow state. BIER also does not require any explicit tree-building
protocol for its operation. A multicast data packet enters a BIER
domain at a "Bit-Forwarding Ingress Router" (BFIR), and leaves the
BIER domain at one or more "Bit-Forwarding Egress Routers" (BFERs).
The BFIR router adds a BIER header to the packet. The BIER header
contains a bit-string in which each bit represents exactly one BFER
to forward the packet to. The set of BFERs to which the multicast
packet needs to be forwarded is expressed by setting the bits that
correspond to those routers in the BIER header.

This document describes some of the use-cases for BIER.
