Comments on this ID very welcome.
I have bcc:ed the bridgemib wg list.
Pls post your comments to mibs@ops.ietf.org

My idea is to have some discussion, make updates as
a result of that discussion (if any) and then issue a
4 week IETF Last Call for PS (Proposed Standard)

Thanks,

Subject: I-D ACTION:draft-ietf-ops-vlanid-tc-mib-00.txt

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Operations & Management Open Area Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Textual Conventions for Virtual Local Area Network
                          Identifiers (VLAN-ID)
	Author(s)	: B. Wijnen
	Filename	: draft-ietf-ops-vlanid-tc-mib-00.txt
	Pages : 8
	Date : 2003-9-29

This memo defines textual conventions to represent the commonly used
Virtual Local Area Network Identifier (VLAN-ID). The intent is that
these textual conventions (TCs) will be imported and used in MIB
modules that would otherwise define their own representations.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ops-vlanid-tc-mib-00.txt

To remove yourself from the IETF Announcement list, send a message to
ietf-announce-request with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-ops-vlanid-tc-mib-00.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ops-vlanid-tc-mib-00.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

My understanding is the latter, as per the email from Tony.
The new reference is to IEEE.802-1Q.2003 as per the references
section of the I-D. Add on top of that there is expected to be

*******************************
newRoot TRAP-TYPE=20
ENTERPRISE dot1dBridge=20
DESCRIPTION "The newRoot trap indicates that the sending agent has =
become the new root of the Spanning Tree; the trap is sent by a bridge =
soon after its election as the new root, e.g., upon expiration of the =
Topology Change Timer immediately subsequent to Decker, Langille, =
Rijsinghani & McCloghrie [Page 36] RFC 1286 Bridge MIB December 1991 =
its election."=20
::=3D 1=20
