The program mentions "Presentation of technical papers". If the
objective is to increase attendance from Latin America I would
suggest avoiding long presentations and having more time for
discussion. The follow-up is more important and can be very
difficult as it requires a lot of effort.

Good luck with the workshop.

Yes, SM. You're right in this observation. But we can't forget there are
other meetings to be held throughout this year, to discuss the
participation of LATAM in the IETF: GTER, Internet Infrastructure Week,
LACNOG, Lacnic and virtual meetings, such as the Alvaro is planning to
precede the IETF 89. Other meetings have been held in recent past. The
Workshop has the main objective to effectively publish papers that in
the future may turn into IETF drafts and little debate (only one day
event was approved).

The IWPIETF will take place along with the biggest event of academic
computing in Brazil (> 2,000 people) and the work of the Workshop will
be published in its annals adding academic value to the effort of the
author.

On the other hand, the Workshop is a first wider experience and we shall
discuss in the next, issues like this that you propose, others one and
the next format.

Thank you,

Juliao

It will be nice if most IETF participants in that region attend so that
they are interacting with community to encourage.

I agree, but at least 20 minute presentation to give fare information about
IETF to new people.

If more IETF participants share the effort, it will change from very
difficult to easy or maybe fun. These current efforts are important to IETF
future, but so far the past IETF managements did not look into that
diversity vision.

Hi!

I received my copy of the latest CCR over the weekend =97 one of the articl=
es that caught my eye is 'Bridging the Gap between Internet Standardization=
and Networking Research'; it talks about the challenges of increasing the =
participation of network researchers in SDOs like the IETF. I'll let you r=
ead it for yourselves: http://www.sigcomm.org/sites/default/files/ccr/pape=
rs/2014/January/2567561-2567572.pdf

The problem of attracting researchers (and others) to the IETF is timely as=
there have been recent discussions about rebooting RGs, and in general abo=
ut diversity..an earlier version of the paper was also presented at the rec=
ent 'IAB Workshop on Internet Technology Adoption and Transition' in Decemb=
er [1].

LACNOG started an effort last year to attract more participants from the re=
gion to the IETF [2]. The original focus was naturally on operators =97 bu=
t under Juliao Braga's leadership we're organizing the 'I Workshop pre-IETF=
' in Brazil later this year (http://iwpietf.lacnog.org/), in conjunction wi=
th the largest academic computing event in the country [3].

One of the "features" of the workshop, which is what I really want to share=
with you, is the "Post-Workshop Committee", which will work with the autho=
rs to (as needed and as appropriate) submit the work to the IETF/IRTF: guid=
ance, mentoring, editing, etc. The objective is then to help close that ga=
p between standardization and research..while increasing awareness and part=
icipation.

If anyone is interested in talking about this topic, I will be in London ne=
xt week. Unfortunately, Juliao won't, but I know he's available on e-mail.=
 :-)

Thanks!

Alvaro.

Furthermore, what is the DT output so far, I would like to meet some of the

Hi AB,

There were a few efforts related to diversity that were started after Berlin=
either by design team members, the IESG, ISOC, and others. I have been wor=
king with Brian Trammell and Suresh to flesh out how we can make the CodeMat=
ch idea a reality. Brian is very interested to drive the development of the=
site and many contributed to expand upon and refine my initial idea.

We have an overview of what CodeMatch will be at this point and will need to=
start development. I think we should have enough to share the plan, which i=
ncludes goals & objectives, soon.

If anyone has an update to share of their work, please do so.

Best regards,
Kathleen=20

Hi,

FYI, IAB also organized the IAB workshop in Cambridge last year, which
is chaired by Eliot and co-organizers.

http://www.iab.org/activities/workshops/itat/

One idea is to bring good students into the IETF reviewing circle to
improve the diversity and perhaps fresh input.

Aaron

I am sorry for the below message if it may understood differently, I agree
that I will change request text. I would like to meet someone from the DT
if possible please. I want to do my draft related to diversity and to give
my work progress, or getting mentoring in this draft. I know that my
English writing needs improvement, so please accept my apologies.

Hi Kathleen,

Thanks for your help. I would like to get some feedback from DT before
posting my first diversity draft. To meet some one f2f talk is more
informal and private, so if the respond is don't post that please then I
will appreciate. Could you suggest some one I can talk to in the meeting
regarding the diversity progress.

Best regards
AB

Hi AB,

Could you send your draft to the diversity or diversity-dt list for the requ=
ested reviews? The dt list is a smaller list if you prefer. I am here this=
week and believe Suresh will be as well. Dave Crocker should be here too.

Thank you,
