Better late than never, I have reviewed this change as well and think it =
is beneficial.

In my implementation, all of the records learned via mDNS were put in a =
tree for the interface with the domain suffix (.local) stripped in both =
the owner name and the RDATA. When a response for a unicast query was =
constructed, the appropriate domain name suffix was added to the owner =
name and relevant RDATA names. There never seemed like any point in =
storing .local anywhere.

However, explaining this in more detail is good for completeness.

Thanks,
Tom

        DOI: 10.17487/RFC8765

The Domain Name System (DNS) was designed to return matching records
efficiently for queries for data that are relatively static. When
those records change frequently, DNS is still efficient at returning
the updated results when polled, as long as the polling rate is not
too high. But, there exists no mechanism for a client to be
asynchronously notified when these changes occur. This document
defines a mechanism for a client to be notified of such changes to
DNS records, called DNS Push Notifications.

This document is a product of the Extensions for Scalable DNS Service Discovery Working Group of the IETF.

This is now a Proposed Standard.

STANDARDS TRACK: This document specifies an Internet Standards Track
protocol for the Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions
for improvements. Please refer to the current edition of the Official
Internet Protocol Standards (https://www.rfc-editor.org/standards) for the
standardization state and status of this protocol. Distribution of this
memo is unlimited.

This announcement is sent to the IETF-Announce and rfc-dist lists.
