IESG Evaluation has completed for all four drafts, and they're on the verge
of entering the RFC Editor queue. Pete

There's one thing that should be brought to the WG's attention, in case it
will be a problem for anyone: The JSON format described in the media-type
document changed a bit on the advice of a couple of IESG members more
well-versed in such things than I am. Anyone interested should go have a
look and say something now if it's wrong-headed or going to create
problems. I plan to modify the OpenDKIM implementation as soon as they
enter the RFC Editor queue.

In particular, since I was one of the ADs who asked for the changes, I'd
like to say a few words about them. There are three main points:

1. The content-type parameter was moved into the JSON object. It seemed
wrong to overload the media type wrapper with something that really belongs
in the payload.

2. The set of reputons in the response was changed from a bunch of JSON
objects that all have the same name to a JSON array. JSON says that object
names SHOULD be unique, and it seemed wrong to violate that. And as long
as the object names don't matter, it makes more sense to use an array.

3. The mechanism for defining the JSON format is no longer ABNF. The JSON
spec already defines the ABNF for JSON, including all the delimiter
characters, the DQUOTEs, where the whitespace can go, and so on with other
fidgety bits. It seemed wrong and risky to re-define all that here.
Instead, the JSON format is now defined in terms of JSON primitives.

I think these are all important changes that go in the right direction.
But the working group should review that, and anyone who disagrees should
raise an issue.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the Reputation Services Working Group of the =
IETF.

Title : An Architecture for Reputation Reporting
	Author(s) : Nathaniel Borenstein
                          Murray S. Kucherawy
                          Andrew Sullivan
	Filename : draft-ietf-repute-model-10.txt
	Pages : 16
	Date : 2013-09-17

Abstract:
This document describes a general architecture for a reputation-based
service, allowing one to request reputation-related data over the
Internet, where "reputation" refers to predictions or expectations
about an entity or an identifier such as a domain name. The document
roughly follows the recommendations of RFC4101 for describing a
   protocol model.

The IETF datatracker status page for this draft is:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-repute-model

There's also a htmlized version available at:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-repute-model-10

A diff from the previous version is available at:
http://www.ietf.org/rfcdiff?url2=3Ddraft-ietf-repute-model-10

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission
until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

The IESG has approved the following document:
- 'An Architecture for Reputation Reporting'
  (draft-ietf-repute-model-10.txt) as Proposed Standard

This document is the product of the Reputation Services Working Group.

The IESG contact persons are Pete Resnick and Barry Leiba.

A URL of this Internet Draft is:
http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-repute-model/

Technical Summary

Using work on SPF and DKIM for motivation, the draft builds upon
recent work in email authentication. The document describes a basic
architecture for reputation queries. It defines reputation as "the
estimation in which an identifiable actor is held, especially by the
community or the Internet public generally." The document sets the
stage for detailed specifications by providing:

   o Vocabulary for the current work and work of this type;
   o The types and content of queries that can be supported;
   o The extensible range of response information that can be provided;
   o A query/response protocol;
   o Query/response transport conventions.

Working Group Summary

The document has gone through multiple drafts, over a period of time,
that were discussed in the working group. Discussion was mild and
supportive, with no significant controversy. The working group
'style' was mostly of a small, collaborative set of active
participants, but has become quite dormant in recent months. Changes
during AD Evaluation were passed by the few remaining active
   participants.

The document includes some core material published previously, which
means that it is already well-established. Equally, the document's
terminology, model and discussion are reasonably straightforward and
   not controversial.

Document Quality

The document is well-organized, defines its scope and is usable in its
   current form.

Technical Summary

Once there is a validated identifier associated with an object or
activity, it is possible to develop and communicate its behavioral
"reputation". The current draft is part of an effort to define a
reputation query/report mechanism. This draft specifically defines
the response syntax and format and the media-type for packaging it.
