Subject: Ftp-WG: Search Engine Secrets Discovered

"Amazing Search Engine Secrets Discovered By A Computer
Illiterate Man in Massachusetts Can Practically Hand
You the Top Search Engine Positions...And Add 1,550
Hits a Day to Web Site Overnight!"

Dear Friend,

Remember the first time you built a web site. You stayed up
until the early morning working it out so that it would be
just perfect. Then, you were finally done and you sat back
and thought, "The World is Good."

After that, you've dreamed of all the visitors your site
would have, how they would all see your ad and buy your
product. Then it hit you, like a ton of bricks....How was
anyone going to find your web site?

You thought about it for a while and eventually thought you
had the answer....submit your site to the search engines.
But after you submitted your site you checked it out and
couldn't find it.

So you waited a few days.....and still nothing

You couldn't even find your site if you looked up your own
name!!!

Then, you got discouraged....after all that hard work
NOTHING?!?!?

And this is where most people give up.....
BUT You Don't Have To...

You can achieve top 20 positioning for your web site...and
the tens of thousands of hits which come with it...if you
have the "Right" information available to you.

For Example, did you know:

* Infoseek, Alta Vista, and HotBot ban web sites which break
their rules (many of the 'insider' techniques most experts
recommend will get you banned faster than you could imagine).

* Many search engines limit the number of pages you can
submit from your domain (some only allow you to submit one
page for best results), although we can show you a technique
we use to get hundreds of our pages listed.

* Yahoo only lists about 1% of the web in their actual
directory. To even get your page listed, you may have to
use the "backdoor".

* Using a so-called search engine submission software that
submits your site to 1,000 or more search engines could
actually get your page deleted from the major search engines.

* 95% of Internet traffic originates at one of the 10 major
search engines...If you're not listed, you might as well
not even have a web site!

* Choosing the most effective 'keywords' is one of the major
keys to a successful web site submission...Pick the right
ones and your web site will look like Grand Central Station
during rush hour!

It has taken us over 2 years to learn how to consistently and
without fail place any type of web site in the top 20 of the
major search engines.

Normally, we charge $500 per keyword that you want a top
ranking on (plus a monthly fee of $150 for keeping that rank),
but we have found we just don't have enough time for all of
the clients that desperately need our services...

So, we have produced a "Search Engine Magic" interactive
CD-ROM that will show you step by step how to create pages
which storm the search engines and lay hold to the precious
Top 20 positions that millions of people are trying to reach.

The Search Engine Magic CD-ROM consists of 21 interactive
video and audio lessons that will run on any IBM compatible
computer showing you the exact step-by-step process we use
to traffic thousands of visitors to our web sites every
single day.

You will learn:

* Three Different Methods We Use to Pick the Best Traffic
Producing Keywords for any web site...and how you can have
a list of hundreds of popular keywords in only a few minutes.

* How Quick and Easy it is to Create 'Doorway' and 'Hallway'
pages for the search engines so that you could possibly have
thousands of different pages on your domain all pulling in
visitors for your site 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

* The Secret Weapon that gives you an "Unfair Advantage" over
your competition...and virtually assures you will reach the
top positions (don't let your competitors hear about this one
first or you will be in trouble).

* How to Submit Your Pages to the Search Engines and assure
that every single one of them gets listed. (if you listen to
one of those amateurs tell you how to list your site, you
may just get banned for life).

* How to Use Pay-Per-Click search engines to receive over
10,000 visitors for only $100

* The Infamous Yahoo backdoor...You can get listed and we
will show you the quickest and easiest method for doing so!

* And much, much more...

Even Better, You'll Get the Same Results For A Fraction of
What Everyone Else Had to Pay!

Listen: A lot of people all over the world are gonna be
furious with me for sharing these "Insider Secrets" with
you...especially since you won't be paying even part of what
they had to shell out for one top positioning page!

That's just too bad. It's been a secret for too long. So,
let me tell you what the deal is....

Contact us today using the below Risk-Free Response Form
and you can have all of our secrets for only $139.00.

This price wouldn't even buy you 10 minutes of our time at
our regular submission fees, but you can own the top search
engine positions for less than the cost of a few classified
ads! You will be learning everything we know about top
positioning!

That, my friend, is the bargain of a lifetime for a serious
Internet marketer like yourself. What’s more, the money is
actually irrelevant, because...

You Also Get a 90 Day No-Risk 100% Money-Back Guarantee!

Here's how it works. Order your personal copy of this
CD-ROM, and use it like you own it. If...For any reason
or no reason at all, you aren't completely satisfied after
90 days (by which I had over 47 Top 20 positions for my
own web site), just send the CD-ROM back in any condition,
and I personally guarantee you to get a complete refund
of your purchase price. No questions asked. No problems
or forms to fill out. No problems at all.

PLUS, You Will Also Receive What is Considered to be by
most experts as the "Ultimate Bonus!"

For the first 50 people who fill out the below response
form and send it in, you will also receive UNLIMITED
REPRINT AND REPRODUCTION RIGHTS to this
CD-ROM for LIFE!

I am not going to allow this CD-ROM to become like many
of those over-advertised products you see out there,
so only the first 50 will receive these rights.

This means that you will be able to use this exact same
sales letter, copy the CD-ROM yourself, and sell it

For $139.00 a copy, one sell will have breaking even. Sell
two copies and you will be in profit. This isn't even
counting what the CD-ROM package will do for you!

Since only 50 people are going to have these rights...
you must take action today!

Yours in Success,
Michael Burgess

Subject: Evolution of FTP - Obsolete those bastards & orphans

Hello.

I've created an evolutionary diagram for FTP and uncovered some loose ends you
may want to clean up. Specifically, I found 3 bastards and 7 orphans that reall
y should be obsoleted. In my notation "+" indicates that the RFC updates the RF
C above (preserving column significance) and ":" is used merely to keep things
tidy and coherent. If you really can't figure this stuff out, you can email me
or you can call me at 408-287-2961 AM/PM.

Best Regards -- Mark Filipak, San Jose, California

Is anyone aware of any clients/servers that have implemented FTP Security
Extensions (RFC 2228)? Specifically, anything that is not mentioned on Marc

	http://www.mit.edu/people/marc/ftpsec

I am particularly interested in anything that has been done for the MS

I did my own implementation (PKFA) which is not based on RFC2228 (I didn't
knew about that RFC when I designed it). You can find details at

http://www.ayukov.com/essays/pkfa.html

NFTP supports PKFA (make sure you get 1.62.b3, NOT 1.61), and patches to
wuftpd and FreeBSD ftp[d] are provided. The crypto source originates in
SSLeay and can be used in free (except GPLed) and commercial projects. If
you are interested in using, extending or changing PKFA please write me.

In short, PKFA uses public key algorithm (DH or RSA) to send passwords in
encrypted form. It does not encrypt data or control connection. I am not
aware of any RFC2228-compliant developments.

SafeTP seems to implement RFC 2228 and run on Windows and UNIX.

If you have not responded to this before, please pay

Your Future May Depend On It!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before you know about this 'Important Announcement',
you must first read the following 'Editorial Excerpts'
from some important publications in the United States:

NEW YORK TIMES: "In concluding our review of Financial
Organizations to effect change in the new millenium,
special attention should be called to a California
based organization, 'INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE ALLIANCE'.
Members of this organization are amassing hundred of
millions of dollars in the currency market using a completely
LEGAL method which has NEVER been divulged to the general
public. While their purpose is not yet known, their
presence has most certainly been felt".

NBC NIGHTLY NEWS: "Members of 'International Exchange
Alliance', who always keep a low profile, are considered
to be some of the wealthiest people in North America".

More excerpts later, but first let us give you this very
"IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT":

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

We are glad to announce that for the first time and for
a very short period of time, INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE
ALLIANCE will instruct a LIMITED number of people
worldwide on 'HOW TO CONVERT $25 INTO ONE HUNDRED OF
LEGAL CURRENCY'. We will transact the first conversion
for you, after that you can easily and quickly do this
on your own hundreds or even thousands of times every
month. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS "SECRET FLAW"!

******************************************************
******************************************************

It is even more explosive than we have yet disclosed.
While currency does fluctuate daily, we can show you
'HOW TO CONVERT $99 INTO $588 AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT'.
That means, you will be able to EXCHANGE $99, AMERICAN
LEGAL CURRENCY DOLLARS, FOR $580 OF THE SAME. You can do
this as many times as you wish, every day, every week,
every month. All very LEGAL and effortlessly!

It takes only 5 to 10 minutes each time you do this. You
can do this from home, office or even while traveling.
All you need is access to a phone line and an address.
Best of all, you can do this from ANY CITY ON THIS EARTH!!!

Again, we must reiterate, anyone can do this and the source
is NEVER-ENDING. For as long as the global financial
community continues to use different currencies with
varying exchange rates, the "SECRET FLAW" will exist.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

As we said earlier, we will do the first transaction for
you and will show you exactly how to do this on your own,
over and over again!

The amount of exchange you would do each time is entirely
up to you. Working just 2 to 10 hours a week, you can soon
join the list of Millionaires who do this on a daily basis
many times a day. The transaction is so simple that even a
high school kid can do it!

We at the International Exchange Alliance would like to
see a uniform global currency backed by Gold. But, until
then, we will allow a LIMITED number of individuals
worldwide to share in the UNLIMITED PROFITS provided for
by the world currency differentials.

We will not espouse any more political views nor will we
ask you to do so. We can say however, that our parent
organization, CILS, benefits greatly by the knowledge
being shared, as we ourselves, along with YOU, benefit
likewise. Your main concern surely will be, how you will
benefit.

As soon as you become a member, you will make transactions
from your home, office, by telephone or through the mail.
You can conduct these transactions even while traveling.

Don't believe us? Experience it for yourself!

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Unlike anyone else, we will assure you great financial
freedom and you will add to our quickly growing base of
supporters and join the list of MILLIONAIRES being created
using this very
"SECRET FLAW" in the world currency market.

Subject: Ftp-WG: thoughts on ftp extensions and caching

I read/skimmed the current (Feb. 2000) and previous ftp extensions
document and would like to inquire about a couple of things.
First, I would like to compliment the authors of the current document
about the improved feature functionality.

Next, I would be interested to learn if there is any dialogue ongoing
between Marshall Rose, in his incarnation as author of the Blocks
set of proposals, and the FTP Extensions working group-- if not,
I would like to input that I think it might bevery mutually beneficial
to both parties.

Finally, one of the things I am working on is a ftp caching scheme.
It seems to me that although augmenting ftp caching is not
mentioned as a goal by the charter of the ftp extensions working
group, nevertheless there seems to be considerable parallels
between needs for caching request responses, and needs
for restarting/continuing responses.

One thing that would appear to economize the number of messages
across the network is the inclusion of the kind of information
that would permit a ftp proxy cache server (PCS)to determine how
big a file is and if the file should be cached as a policy issue
in the beginning of a transfer. This kind of information appears
in a MLST response as described in draft 10 of the extensions:
a unique fully-qualified TVFS pathname, the size of the file,
and a last-modified date and time. The pathname can be used
as a key for later cache associative matching and file content
retrieval. The last modified date and time can be used for
cache copy expiration purposes. The size of the file could be used
to avoid the overhead of storing objects that are deemed to be
too large (or too small, etc.) for the cache. It appears that
a ftp PCS would be required to issue a MLST and wait for
the response before starting the transfer to obtain this kind
of information. However, note that many versions of ftp
server applications (eg BSD, solaris) already provide,
in a variation of response 150 that does not appear in RFC959
(that I could find in brief examination)
a unique fully qualified pathname and size already, for example:

 150 ASCII data connection for /etc/motd (208.48.116.174,51740) (53
bytes).

I tried this on the ietf ftp site and got a somewhat shortened
variation (relative instead of fully qualified pathname) but still
an apparently extended response over RFC 959:

150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for
draft-ietf-ftpext-mlst-10.txt (126451 bytes).

It would seem at least potentially beneficial to re-standardize
response 150 (and its non-stream analog, response 125,
for the perhaps few ftp server applications that support
other than streaming mode, if only for completeness' sake)
to pass the fully qualified pathname, last modified date/time
and size MLST values back as part of the response. A
convention for doing this might be, for example, mandating
this as part of support for the MLST command in the FEAT
command, and/or some convention that can be recognized
implicitly by a ftp PCS such as a convention for extended
responses "150 X ..." and "125 X ...". It may be that the
value of this notion to the overall network in reducing
traffic from ftp PCSs and possibly ftp spiders could be
small to moderate, in addition to reducing a network
latency component in response time from any users
downstream of a ftp PCS.

I have been made aware through offline discussions
that computing an accurate file size based on request
type is potentially expensive, due to the need to perform
character set mappings and so on. Possible solutions
that occur to me at this time include restricting
the guarantee of accuracy for the size value to apply
to binary files only, and (possibly somewhat less
palatable to most) having the ftp server application
pre-calculate the values for non-binary cases
for later convenient reporting.

In any event it seems that many ftp servers already
issue extra-standard information in 150 responses,
that an extended and standardized version of such
responses would be useful for caching proxy servers
towards minimizing response latency and overall
message traffic, and that it could be that a convenient
and appropriate time to extend the standard
to incorporate such improvements, if there is
common agreement on details, coincident with
the release of an extended standard for permitting
reliable restarting/continuation of responses.

In any case, perhaps the idea is at least worth kicking
around for a while even if it does not meet with the
ultimate favor of the group. If there are any questions
I would be happy to try to answer them-- I am
not an ftp expert. Thanks,

Steve Head

Before I commence wittering, a caveat: It's before noon here, and I'm
hungover, and can't remember everything in the MLST spec, and unfortunately
I'm at work and somewhat busy.

However, I suggest the following:

In responses to RETR commands, the Server-PI SHOULD respond with the
following as the text of the response:

response = identifier SP mlst-line

identifier = "<EXT>" (or some such - more than a character should avoid
confusion)

And also include the extra facts, not normally put in:

"download-mode", "download-type", "download-structure" - defining the method
of downloading. Assuming I've remembered these right.

The "size" fact, if present, should indicate to a reasonable degree the size
of the file being downloaded - perhaps not wholly accurately for ASCII mode
downloads, but enough for policy based caching systems to take a view on
whether to cache or not.

Perhaps include an optional "download-size" fact for the exact size.

traffic from ftp PCSs and possibly ftp spiders could be
small to moderate, in addition to reducing a network
latency component in response time from any users
downstream of a ftp PCS.

Thanks,

I read/skimmed the current (Feb. 2000) and previous =
ftp extensions
document and would like to inquire about a couple of =
things.
First, I would like to compliment the authors of the =
current document
about the improved feature functionality.

Next, I would be interested to learn if there is any =
dialogue ongoing
between Marshall Rose, in his incarnation as author =
of the Blocks
set of proposals, and the FTP Extensions working =
group-- if not,
I would like to input that I think it might bevery =
mutually beneficial
to both parties.

Finally, one of the things I am working on is a ftp =
caching scheme.
It seems to me that although augmenting ftp caching =
is not
mentioned as a goal by the charter of the ftp =
extensions working
group, nevertheless there seems to be considerable =
parallels
between needs for caching request responses, and =
needs
for restarting/continuing responses.

One thing that would appear to economize the number =
of messages
across the network is the inclusion of the kind of =
information
that would permit a ftp proxy cache server (PCS)to =
determine how
big a file is and if the file should be cached as a =
policy issue
in the beginning of a transfer. This kind of =
information appears
in a MLST response as described in draft 10 of the =
extensions:
a unique fully-qualified TVFS pathname, the size of =
the file,
and a last-modified date and time. The =
pathname can be used
as a key for later cache associative matching and =
file content
retrieval. The last modified date and time can =
be used for
cache copy expiration purposes. The size of =
the file could be used
to avoid the overhead of storing objects that are =
deemed to be
too large (or too small, etc.) for the cache. =
It appears that
a ftp PCS would be required to issue a MLST and wait =
for
the response before starting the transfer to obtain =
this kind
of information. However, note that many =
versions of ftp
server applications (eg BSD, solaris) already =
provide,
in a variation of response 150 that does not appear =
in RFC959
(that I could find in brief examination)
a unique fully qualified pathname and size already, =
for example:

 150 ASCII data connection for /etc/motd =
(208.48.116.174,51740) (53
bytes).

I tried this on the ietf ftp site and got a somewhat =
shortened
variation (relative instead of fully qualified =
pathname) but still
an apparently extended response over RFC 959:

150 Opening ASCII mode data connection =
for
draft-ietf-ftpext-mlst-10.txt (126451 bytes).

It would seem at least potentially beneficial to =
re-standardize
response 150 (and its non-stream analog, response =
125,
for the perhaps few ftp server applications that =
support
other than streaming mode, if only for completeness' =
sake)
to pass the fully qualified pathname, last modified =
date/time
and size MLST values back as part of the =
response. A
convention for doing this might be, for example, =
mandating
this as part of support for the MLST command in the =
FEAT
command, and/or some convention that can be =
recognized
implicitly by a ftp PCS such as a convention for =
extended
responses "150 X ..." and "125 X =
...". It may be that the
value of this notion to the overall network in =
