A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the IP Telephony Working Group of the IETF.

Title : A Telephony Gateway REgistration Protocol (TGREP)
	Author(s)	: M. Bangalore et al.
	Filename	: draft-ietf-iptel-tgrep-02.txt
	Pages : 27
	Date : 2003-7-1

This document describes the Telephony Gateway Registration Protocol
(TGREP) for registration of telephony prefixes supported by telephony
gateways and soft switches. The registration mechanism can also be
used to export resource information. The prefix and resource
information can then be passed on to a TRIP Location Server, which in
turn can propogate that routing information within the same, and
other internet telephony administrative domains (ITAD). TGREP shares
a lot of similarites with the TRIP Protocol. It has similar
procedures and Finite State Machine for session establishment. It
also shares the same format for messaages and a subset of attributes
with TRIP.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-tgrep-02.txt

To remove yourself from the IETF Announcement list, send a message to
ietf-announce-request with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-iptel-tgrep-02.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-tgrep-02.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

There was an error in the last monthly reminder, in that the NOTE WELL
statement (below) was not included. Therefore, the reminder is being
sent out again.

This is a reminder, sent out once a month, about your ietf.org mailing
list memberships. It includes your subscription info and how to use
it to change it or unsubscribe from a list.

You can visit the URLs to change your membership status or
configuration, including unsubscribing, setting digest-style delivery
or disabling delivery altogether (e.g., for a vacation), and so on.

In addition to the URL interfaces, you can also use email to make such
changes. For more info, send a message to the '-request' address of
the list (for example, iptel-request@ietf.org) containing just the
word 'help' in the message body, and an email message will be sent to
you with instructions.

Here are my comments on the latest TRIP MIB I-D. I congratulate the =
authors for the considerable improvement of the document, and thank them =
for taking into account most of my comments in the review of the =
previous version.

There are still a few problems:

1) smilint complains of two indices possibly exceeding the OID size =
limitation:

TRIP-MIB.txt:328: [5] {index-exceeds-too-large} warning: index of row =
`tripRouteTypeEntry' can exceed OID size limit by 138 subidentifier(s)
TRIP-MIB.txt:511: [5] {index-exceeds-too-large} warning: index of row =
`tripPeerEntry' can exceed OID size limit by 136 subidentifier(s)

This is probably because of use of multiple indices with a syntax of =
OBJECT STRING or OBJECT IDENTIFIER. According to Section 4.6.5 in =
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ops-mib-review-guidelines-=
01.txt,
' It is RECOMMENDED that all MIB documents make explicit any limitations =
on index component lengths that management software must observe. This =
may be done either by including SIZE constraints on the index components =
or by specifying applicable constraints in the conceptual row =
DESCRIPTION clause or in the surrounding documentation. '
 =20
2) One of my comments in the review of draft-05 was about the need to =
improve the DESCRIPTION clause of tripRouteUnknown. If I were an =
implementer, I still do not know what this object is supposed to =
contain, and how the information is encoded.

3) Two of comments in the previous review were ignored. I would not =
block this document because of these, but I still think that they were =
valid, and the authors would like to consider following them for =
improved readability and consistency.

These comments were:

'4. The readability of the document would be much improved if an =
abbreviation section would be included. Some of the abbreviations are =
not detailed, some other are explained only after a few occurrences in =
the text (LS, ITAD) -- LS is now explained at the first occurrence, but =
ITAD is still not explained. --
10. 'location server' in the DESCRIPTION clause of tripPeerOutUpdates is =
inconsistent with the other clauses in the same table where it is =
abbreviated.'

4) You would like to swap the order of the two phrases that compose =
Section 4, and remove the double reference in the same section.

5) Year in copyright notes and the Copyright Section should be updated =
to 2003.

Regards,

Dan

Folks,

The iptel group completed the CPL spec, and got it approved by IESG,
quite a long time ago (well over a year). The CPL spec is still in the
rfc editors queue, blocked on a reference to the caller preferences
spec. As you may know, caller prefs has had a rocky history in the SIP
group, and its not clear that its going to be done really soon either.
As a result, caller prefs was split in half. One half covers
capabilities, which is more stable, and the other half, the actual
caller preferences, which needs additional work and review.

Unfortunately, CPL has a bunch of features which make direct use of
caller preferences (not just the capabilities stuff), and thus it
continues to have a normative reference to it.

In order to make progress on CPL, and get it as an RFC already, I
discussed a plan with our ADs, Cullen, and the CPL authors, which we
would like working group input on:

1. We will remove CPL from the rfc-ed, and bring it back into iptel
for another revision.

2. In that revision, we will:

   A. remove the features that make CPL dependent on caller preferences,
   B. convert the DTD to a schema, such that there is no loss of
interoperability with any implementations which are using the DTD
   C. update references
   D. typos

We will NOT be introducing any other features or capabilities. All
changes are restricted to one of the above four groups.

3. These changes will be made fairly quickly (one month or so), and
after that, we will issue a wglc for the document, and then send it to
iesg for approval once more and reinsertion onto the rfc-ed queue.

Please provide input on whether you are in agreement or disagreement
with this plan.

Thanks,
Jonathan R.

Agreement, sounds reasonable. One question, though:

Will the removal of the caller preference features hobble CPL or
limit is usability in any way?

TO my knowledge, no one is using these features of CPL. But, thats why
we are polling the group. Do speak up if you think these capabilities
are essential. Given the limited support caller prefs itself sees in
products, I suspect there is really no usage.

  Subject: [Iptel] Comments on draft-ietf-iptel-trip-mib-06.txt

01.txt,

' It is RECOMMENDED that all MIB documents make explicit any =
limitations on index component lengths that management software must =
observe. This may be done either by including SIZE constraints on the =
index components or by specifying applicable constraints in the =
conceptual row DESCRIPTION clause or in the surrounding documentation. '

Fixed, with appropriate comments. =20

  2) One of my comments in the review of draft-05 was about the need to =
improve the DESCRIPTION clause of tripRouteUnknown. If I were an =
implementer, I still do not know what this object is supposed to =
contain, and how the information is encoded.

I have changed this, with the help of Jonathan Rosenberg to make it much =
clearer.

I explain the ITAD in section 5.1 of the draft, before the MIB =
definitions in section 6. I will add the description to the MIB too.

  10. 'location server' in the DESCRIPTION clause of tripPeerOutUpdates =
is inconsistent with the other clauses in the same table where it is =
abbreviated.'

Missed that one.

  4) You would like to swap the order of the two phrases that compose =
Section 4, and remove the double reference in the same section.

Done.

  5) Year in copyright notes and the Copyright Section should be updated =
to 2003.

done

  Regards,

  Dan

DZ

Hi,

Seems a very good idea indeed, so that CPL can at least become a "real"
standard...

By the way, the draft lennox-sip-reg-payload-01.txt (Transporting User
Control Information in SIP REGISTER Payloads, which gives a way to load
CPL scripts on a server via REGISTER messages) is out of date since a
long time. The authors told me a while ago that this mechanism would be
replaced by another one... Is this work still in progress, or will the
draft be updated in a near future?

I have actually been thinkign about this. I always thought that
setting of CPL was a provisioning operation, and such, seemed like a
good match for xcap:

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-simple-xcap-00.txt

which we are considering in simple for setting buddy lists and
authorization policy. Also under consideration for usage in setting
coference policies. You'd need to define an application usage for CPL.
Would be pretty easy.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the IP Telephony Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Management Information Base for Telephony Routing over
                          IP (TRIP)
	Author(s)	: D. Zinman, D. Walker, J. Jiang
	Filename	: draft-ietf-iptel-trip-mib-07.txt
	Pages : 45
	Date : 2003-7-24

This memo defines a portion of the MIB (Management Information Base)
module for use with network management protocols in the Internet
community. In particular, it describes a set of managed objects that
are used to manage for TRIP (Telephony Routing over IP) devices

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-trip-mib-07.txt

To remove yourself from the IETF Announcement list, send a message to
ietf-announce-request with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-iptel-trip-mib-07.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-trip-mib-07.txt".

I would like to working group last call

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-rfc2806bis-02.txt

The WGLC will end on Friday, August 22.

I would like to point out that future tel extensions can include a tel
parameter flag that indicates a ENUM dip is not needed. This will optimize
situations where multiple enum dips are done by different network elements
during a single call. I believe the working group consensus is that ENUM
lookups MAY be performed on tel URLs and a separate enum URL is not needed.

Thanks, Cullen
