This is a reminder, sent out once a month, about your ietf.org mailing
list memberships. It includes your subscription info and how to use
it to change it or unsubscribe from a list.

You can visit the URLs to change your membership status or
configuration, including unsubscribing, setting digest-style delivery
or disabling delivery altogether (e.g., for a vacation), and so on.

In addition to the URL interfaces, you can also use email to make such
changes. For more info, send a message to the '-request' address of
the list (for example, iptel-request@ietf.org) containing just the
word 'help' in the message body, and an email message will be sent to
you with instructions.

Hi,

This is regarding the suggested hypothetical extension to CPL
(draft-ietf-iptel-cpl-08: chapter 12.10) for distinctive ringing.

This extension was originally proposed in the 03 version of the draft.
Since then it has been kept as a "hypothetical" extension and _not_ as a
"standard" action node in 5 more later versions including the latest 08
version.

I would like to know the possibility/ acceptance of "ring"
(draft-ietf-iptel-cpl-08: chapter 12.10) node coming in the standard CPL
schema in future versions of the draft.

Also response from SIP proxy developers, who are following the suggested
extension for their distinctive ringing implementation, will be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Subrata Sa

CPL is intended as a language for controlling SIP proxy servers. There's no
(standardized) way to implement distinctive ring in a proxy server; it needs
to be done by user agents.

You might want to take a look at Xiaotao Wu's LESS, the Language for End
System Services. It's an extension of CPL designed for end-system control
of this sort.

Probably subject of my mail was misleading. My intension was to mean CPL as
a standard way of scripting distinct ring plan at proxy server.

Its very much true that distinctive ringing has to be implemented at
end-points - which precisely means playing the ring tone specified in the
alert-info header in INVITE.

The hypothetical extension (draft-ietf-iptel-cpl-08: chapter 12.10) can be
used by proxy administrators to script a distinct ring plan for a
subscriber/ end-point. I was wondering how long this will be kept as a
"hypothetical" extension in the draft? The suggested "ring" node can be
included in the standard CPL schema just like other nodes e.g. "mail"
non-signalling node. In that case, proxy server developers will provide CPL
as a standard way of scripting distinct ring plan for a subscriber.

CPL is intended as a language for controlling SIP proxy servers. There's
no
(standardized) way to implement distinctive ring in a proxy server; it
needs
to be done by user agents.

You might want to take a look at Xiaotao Wu's LESS, the Language for End
System Services. It's an extension of CPL designed for end-system control
of this sort.

I think what you had in mind here is that the proxy would process the
CPL, and insert an Alert-Info header, and then forward that INVITE to
the UA which would play that ring. Is that right?

CPL is complete, and thus no features will be added to the base
specification. However CPL is extensible. If you have an interest in
seeing such an extension standardized, I would suggest writing up an
internet-draft with a proposed extension, and bringing that forward for
discussion.

This memo defines a portion of the MIB (Management Information Base)
module for use with network management protocols in the Internet
community. In particular, it describes a set of managed objects that
are used to manage for TRIP (Telephony Routing over IP) devices

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-trip-mib-10.txt

To remove yourself from the IETF Announcement list, send a message to
ietf-announce-request with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-iptel-trip-mib-10.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-trip-mib-10.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

Hi Henning,

two short comments to the 2nd para of 1. Introduction:

1. The termination point can be fixed or wireless and address a fixed
wired, mobile=20
or nomadic terminal.

2. The terminal addressed can support any electronic communication
service (ECS).

regards
Richard

Hi Henning,

 ========================
10. IANA Considerations
IANA is requested to update the reference to RFC 2608 in the URI scheme
registry for the 'tel' scheme to this document.

 ========================

You probably mean RFC 2806 in the above line in the draft.

-DN Kumar.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.

Title : Location-switch for the Call Processing Language (CPL)
  Author(s) : X. Wu, H. Schulzrinne
  Filename : draft-wu-iptel-locswitch-00.txt
  Pages : 18
  Date : 2004-2-7

This memo defines an extension to the Call Processing Language (CPL).
It introduces two switch nodes named location-switch and
location-relation-switch to the Call Processing Language (CPL). The
new nodes enable CPL to handle location-based services.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-trip-mib-10.txt

Thanks!

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the IP Telephony Working Group of the IETF.

Title : The tel URI for Telephone Calls
	Author(s)	: H. Schulzrinne, A. Vaha-Sipila
	Filename	: draft-ietf-iptel-rfc2806bis-03.txt
	Pages : 29
	Date : 2004-2-17

This document specifies the URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) scheme
'tel'. The 'tel' URI describes resources identified by telephone
numbers

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-rfc2806bis-03.txt

To remove yourself from the IETF Announcement list, send a message to
ietf-announce-request with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-iptel-rfc2806bis-03.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-iptel-rfc2806bis-03.txt".

Folks,

Many of you may have seen this news posted on other ietf mailing lists.
In case not, I am forwarding it here. It applies most directly to all
editors of our working group documents. Magnus Westerland provided a
great summary on AVT, which I am copying here for your perusal:

> I would like to make all WG participants aware of that 3 RFC has been published that updates your rights in submission to the IETF. I would recommend that you look at them. Reasons why you should look at them are:
>
> - RFC 3667 updates what an Internet draft needs to contain, thus it is important that any document editor reads this.
>
> - RFC 3667 also regulates what rights you grant with any contribution to the IETF. Please note that as contribution is also counted email to the WG, speaking at the WG meeting. Please read the RFC for authoritative text on this.
>
> - RFC 3668 describes what rules that apply for IPR disclosures, thus it applies to any contributing to the IETF.
>
> - RFC 3669 contains guidelines for how to handle IPR in the WG. This can be useful reading for people discussing, having or disclosing IPR.

Does this mean the WG is now ready to either issue or complete last calls
on the remaining documents being worked (in particular, all the tel-URI
stuff) ? If not, how/when do we expect this to happen ?

Our plan is to send the tel URI to IESG as soon as all comments have
been incorporated (I believe there were a few straggler comments after
the last version Henning released.)

As soon as the draft moratorium clears, we will get a revision of tgrep
(which has expired!) and then issue a WGLC on that.

Subsequent to that is a WGLC on trunk group and then yu-tel-uri-extensions.

The disposition of the cpc-tel extensions is still unclear. I think this
warrants further discussion, and I encourage people to post comments and
thoughts on this draft.

Our cancellation of the meeting was because there were not enough open
issues discussed on the list prior to the meeting to warrant time at the
meeting.

Thanks,
Jonathan R.

All comments that I have seen have now been incorporated and I will
resubmit the draft after the gate opens again. I would appreciate if
somebody could then sanity check whether I missed any messages.
