Hi,

I just joined this work group. This is my first time to particpate in
IETF, so please accept my apologies ahead of time if I miss something.

    3.3 Future Delivery

Traditionally messages sent with "future delivery" are held in
the
recipients client "outbox" or equivalent until the appointed
submission
time. Think clients used for WEB or TUI do not have such
persistent storage and must rely upon server-based outbox queues.

Such support requires extensions to message submission protocols
to
identify a message as requiring queuing for future delivery.
Extensions
to IMAP4 or conventions are required to view and manipulate the
outbound
queue, for such purposes as cancelling a future message. Server
support
for managing such a queue is required such that message are sent
when
       they are intended.

My thoughts after reading this is are the following:
IMHO, thin mail clients would submit messages via a transport protocol
(i.e. SMTP), rather than IMAP (which is an access protocol). I do
realize some clients submit messages via IMAP for things like archival
(the ever present "sent folder").

Robustness of the above might be in question. Typically, IMAP
implementations do not include "store and forward" and "alternative
path" capabilities of protocols such as SMTP.

Would the deferred delivery marker (date of delivery) be designated by
the submission protocol (i.e. SMTP option) or part of the message
encapsulation (i.e. a particular message header)?

One concept I think you stepped over is that by having an IMAP folder
for outbound mail, the user can selectively remove (or cancel) messages
to be future delivered. This would promote compatability with regular
IMAP clients.

Reminding me about mail I just sent to one of my working groups....

Are you asking whether we want to re-charter?

Folks,

>>Does anyone care about this milestone, or can we remove it from the task list?
PR> Reminding me about mail I just sent to one of my working groups....
PR> Are you asking whether we want to re-charter?

More basic issue: It has been 2 months since there have been any
postings of technical substance. (An attempt on 2 May to engage in some
content discussion has so far gone unanswered.)

This does not bode well for working group productivity.

Hi,

I am investigating about Email protocols, do you know
if there is a document containing all the email
protocols and steps when sending and receiveing an
email?...

I would like something where all the steps are
involucred and the servers that are started for every
of the steps, directories, etc...

I would like to know also if it is possible to do
changes in the code of the file's server in linux (I
know linux is an open source), if so, what are the
files to check?

I would like to check the files that are involucred in
the email process...

I know what I am asking for is very ambitous, but I
need a lot of help to understand this...

My best regards, I really appreciate your time, thanks
a lot.
Be fine.

For the type of pedagogical information that you are seeking, I recommend
that you buy a copy of the book "Internet Email Protocols: A Developer's
Guide", by Kevin Johnson, published by Addison Wesley, ISBN 0-201-43288-9.

The LEMONADE mailing list is not a good place to be asking such questions;
it is a technical discussion list, not a forum for novices. If, after
reading the above book, you still have questions (and you probably will),
I suggest that you ask these questions on the comp.mail.misc newsgroup.

Google is your friend. Try "internet email protocols", with quotes for
most targeted results, without for the most results. Or hit
http://www.ietf.org and read through all the related RFCs you can find.
