A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.
This draft is a work item of the Long-Term Archive and Notary Services Working Group of the IETF.

	Title : Extensible Markup Language Evidence Record Syntax
	Author(s)	: A. Blazic, et al.
	Filename	: draft-ietf-ltans-xmlers-00.txt
	Pages		: 32
	Date		: 2007-2-26

   In many scenarios, users must be able to demonstrate the (time)
   existence, integrity and validity of data including signed data for
   long or undetermined period of time. This document specifies XML
   syntax and processing rules for creating evidence for long-term non-
   repudiation of existence of data. ERS-XML incorporates alternative
   syntax and processing rules to ASN.1 ERS syntax by using XML
   language.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a message to
i-d-announce-request@ietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the body of
the message.
You can also visit https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the
username "anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After
logging in, type "cd internet-drafts" and then
"get draft-ietf-ltans-xmlers-00.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ltans-xmlers-00.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
	MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
	feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
	command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
	a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
	exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
	"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
	up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

Hello WG,

Just FYI:=20
the last update from version ers-10 to ers-11, was only because of a =
last small typo in the word EncryptionInfoType in the structure of the =
optional EncryptionInfo module of ERS:

old (version-10) was:
EncryptionInfo       ::=3D     SEQUENCE {
       encryptionInfoType     OBJECT IDENTIFIER,
       encryptionInfoValue    ANY DEFINED BY EncryptionInfoType}

new (version-11) is:
EncryptionInfo       ::=3D     SEQUENCE {
       encryptionInfoType     OBJECT IDENTIFIER,
       encryptionInfoValue    ANY DEFINED BY encryptionInfoType}

Best regards, Tobias

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.
This draft is a work item of the Long-Term Archive and Notary Services Working Group of the IETF.

	Title : Evidence Record Syntax (ERS)
	Author(s)	: R. Brandner, et al.
	Filename	: draft-ietf-ltans-ers-11.txt
	Pages		: 35
	Date		: 2007-2-20

In many scenarios, users must be able prove the existence and
   integrity of data, including digitally signed data, in a common and
   reproducible way over a long and possibly undetermined period of
   time. This document specifies the syntax and processing of an
   Evidence Record, a structure designed to support long-term non-
   repudiation of existence of data.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ltans-ers-11.txt

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a message to
i-d-announce-request@ietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the body of
the message.
You can also visit https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the
username "anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After
logging in, type "cd internet-drafts" and then
"get draft-ietf-ltans-ers-11.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ltans-ers-11.txt".

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.
This draft is a work item of the Long-Term Archive and Notary Services Working Group of the IETF.

	Title : Evidence Record Syntax (ERS)
	Author(s)	: R. Brandner, et al.
	Filename	: draft-ietf-ltans-ers-10.txt
	Pages		: 35
	Date		: 2007-2-16

In many scenarios, users must be able prove the existence and
   integrity of data, including digitally signed data, in a common and
   reproducible way over a long and possibly undetermined period of
   time. This document specifies the syntax and processing of an
   Evidence Record, a structure designed to support long-term non-
   repudiation of existence of data.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ltans-ers-10.txt

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a message to
i-d-announce-request@ietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the body of
the message.
You can also visit https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the
username "anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After
logging in, type "cd internet-drafts" and then
"get draft-ietf-ltans-ers-10.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ltans-ers-10.txt".

Hello dear WG,

the last call for ERS closed a few days ago and I received from the =
cross review from the SMIME mailing-lists and members of LTANS some =
valuable input for final corrections.

The corrections I made were small and should not impact existing =
implementations.=20

According to the review I made the corrections and send the new version =
draft-ietf-ltans-ers-10.txt again to the secretary and it will be =
published in the next few hours. I believe the document is now ready for =
submission to the IESG.

Thanks to all the reviewers of ERS, and especially thanks to Denis and =
Peter.=20

- Tobias

The following modifications were made:

1. Corrected a reference on page 9 about encryptionInfo "... For =
discussion of syntax please refer to chapter 5.1" changed to "...chapter =
6.1"

2. corrected a small typo encryptionInfo was written in some structures =
with encryptionInfos which prevented correct implementation.
(thanks to Denis)=20

3. in Appendix A: inserted the missing "OBJECT IDENTIFIER" to the =
definition of now
id-EvidenceRecord-Internal OBJECT IDENTIFIER ::=3D {id-em 1}
and=20
id-EvidenceRecord-External OBJECT IDENTIFIER ::=3D {id-em 2}
(thanks to Denis and Carl for finding this error)

3. added an optional field in ArchiveTimeStamp to give an LTA the =
possibility to store additional information at the level of the =
individual ArchiveTimeStamp, e.g. a Policy used at the various times of =
the renewal processes.=20
(inspired by Denis and Carl)

   ArchiveTimeStamp ::=3D SEQUENCE {
     digestAlgorithm [0] AlgorithmIdentifier OPTIONAL,
     attributes      [1] Attributes OPTIONAL,
     reducedHashtree [2] SEQUENCE OF PartialHashtree OPTIONAL,
     timeStamp       ContentInfo}

   PartialHashtree ::=3D SEQUENCE OF OCTET STRING

   Attributes ::=3D SET SIZE (1..MAX) OF Attribute

The Attribute structure is imported from RFC3852 (for current ASN.1 from =
InformationFramework).=20
FYI:=20
Attribute ::=3D SEQUENCE {
        attrType OBJECT IDENTIFIER,
        attrValues SET OF AttributeValue }

      AttributeValue ::=3D ANY

4. Support of both ASN.1 syntax (1988 and current):
This item was quite tricky and Peter and I worked the last few days on =
it. Thanks to the great help from Peter, we finally managed to provide =
two fully compatible ASN.1 structures: one supporting 88 syntax and one =
the current ASN.1.
=20

5. As requested during the cross review from SMIME, added two paragraphs =
to 1.2 General Overview and Requirements
To explain the different scenarios where timestamp renewal and hash tree =
renewal in more detail as recommended by Denis:
" Note: Information about the weakening of the security properties of
   public key and hash algorithms as well as the risk of compromise of
   private keys of Time Stamping Units has to be closely watched by the
   Long Term Archive provider or the owner of the data objects himself.
   This information should be gathered by "out of bands" means and is
   out of scope of this document.) ERS distinguishes two ways for
   renewal of an Archive Timestamp: Timestamp Renewal and Hash-Tree
   Renewal."

" The timestamp renewal is necessary if the private key of a
   Timestamping Unit has been compromised, an asymmetric algorithm or a
   hash algorithm used for the generation of the timestamps is no longer
   secure for the given key size. If the hash algorithm used to build
   the hash trees in the Archive Timestamp looses its security
   properties the Hash-Tree Renewal is required."

6. As requested during the cross review from SMIME, added to appendix A =
a short explanation about why it to store ERS within the CMS structure:
" One advantage of storing the Evidence Record within the CMS structure
   is that all data can be transferred in one conclusive file and is
   directly connected. The documents, the signatures and their Evidence
   Records can be bundled and managed together. The description in the
   appendix contains the normative specification of how to integrate ERS
   in CMS structures."=20

7. as the Attribute structure is also the exact match for the CryptoInfo =
structure used for the OPTIONAL CryptoInfos, I also used it here instead =
of writing it up:
So new CryptoInfos is
CryptoInfos ::=3D SEQUENCE SIZE (1..MAX) OF Attribute

Writing it out would have been:=20
CryptoInfos ::=3D SEQUENCE SIZE (1..MAX) OF CryptoInfo

CryptoInfos ::=3D SEQUENCE {
        cryptoInfoType OBJECT IDENTIFIER,
        cryptoInfoValues SET OF cryptoInfoValue }

      cryptoInfoValue ::=3D ANY

8. corrected the listing of a normative reference: reference to RFC3280 =
was missing

9. very few corrections, were text was not fully conform with RFC2119
