Hi all,

I am swamped with the deadlines as are most of you, I reckon. After the
deadline, I am going to pick up on the LCs etc.

But, when you find time, please let Ran and me know what we should be
discussing at the Prague meeting.

thanks,
Lakshminath

Folks,

We have two hours for the MSEC meeting at the moment. I have only
received a couple of responses so far. Please let me know ASAP what we
might discuss at the meeting. If there is not a whole lot to discuss,
we can consider cutting our time short to 1 hr so other WGs/BoFs can use
the bigger time slot.

thanks,
Lakshminath

Hi all,

I have checked my mailbox again and found that we really only have 1
presentation request (from Adrian on GDOI-SRTP). I want to make a
couple of presentations, one on WG status and another on GKDP (if I get
to finish it before the meeting). It also appears that many of the
regular contributors won't be attending the meeting in Prague.

Should we be canceling the meeting?

Could people send me an offline email if they plan to attend and also
what topics they might be interested in? It is a busy week at the IETF
and if other people can better use the meeting time, we should yield to
them if we don't have any need for meeting time.

thanks,
Lakshminath

It is a busy week at the IETF and
if other people can better use the meeting time, we should yield to them
if we don't have any need for meeting time.

Please send me an offline email if you plan to attend and also what
topics are of interest to you.

thanks,
Lakshminath

Hi all,

I haven't heard from anyone who is interested in attending MSEC :) and
so I am considering canceling the meeting.

Adrian wants to present GDOI-SRTP, but if we don't have any audience,
well, I will just talk to him offline about his work. Vincent will be
presenting tesla-for-alc-norm at RMT (the issues up for discussion are
more relevant to that WG).

Any thoughts?

regards,
Lakshminath

How will this impact the working group wrapping up
draft-ietf-msec-ipsec-extensions? In my opinion, this is the most
pressing thing for the MSEC WG to finish.

None of the authors will be there at the meeting. My plan is to talk to
them next week to see what if anything needs to be done and forward it
to you. I think we are done at the MSEC and IPSEC level with that
draft; but I need the same confirmation from the authors and Ran too
before forwarding it to you/Tim (I also wanted to read it one more time
before sending it to you; but I can do that rather quickly).

thanks,
Lakshminath

Although most things could be discussed in the mailing-list, the
face-to-face meeting is in general productive. At least, I personally
want to listen or join the discussion for current active drafts.
Knowing the future view (not just about conclusion) of this WG is also
interesting.

Hi all,

I am canceling the MSEC meeting in Prague.

I barely got a response from the list for my question on whether to
cancel the MSEC meeting. I know that a few people will show up if we
held the meeting, but it will not be productive in any sense of the
word. For those interested in the status of the WG, I will ask to be
included in the SAAG list of WG reporting roll call, and present a
summary there. Please attend that meeting.

Thank you. Please feel free to send me email if you are going to be
around; we can probably get together for lunch or something.

best regards,
Lakshminath

Hi all,

Before closing this WG, though I am not sure that members want to do so,
please let me ask members in this WG.

>From the first sentence of the charter:

The purpose of the MSEC WG is to standardize protocols for securing
group communication over internets, and in particular over the global
    Internet.

There are four different core protocols (GSAKMP, GDOI, MIKEY, GKDP) so far.
My simple question is what protocol should be used, and what situation it
should be used in ? I admit that it is obviously clear that there are so
many environment of users. So four protocols are going to be standardized.
I think that each specification should define the target itself, otherwise
users must be confused and misuse it. That is not for global internetworking.

The MIKEY's document seems clarifying its target. However others don't seem so.
At least, this WG or the authors have to specify advantages/disadvantages
of the protocol and the target. I believe that it is one of the important
tasks for a WG in the IETF to make systems to be interoperable, and to be usable.
Otherwise a standardization is not needed, is it ?

Please correct me if my understanding is not correct.

Regards,

hi,
The major functional differences between GSAKMP and GDOI are that
GDOI uses an ISAKMP header, uses an IKE Phase 1 security association,
and is suitable for implementation using an IKE code base. I think
it's fair to say that GSAKMP has some additional functionality over
GDOI in the area of policy.
