I think that for maximum transparency these are supposed to be / should =
be done onlist.
As well as getting each author / contributor to explicitly state that =
they have no IRP, it also reminds others to speak up if they know of =
any=85

Fair enough -- the ams thing has happened to me a few times=85 I'll try =
to remember to reword the subject line in the future to avoid the =

In the crazy world of IPR it seems that almost anything is possible=85.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the Operational Security Capabilities for IP =
Network Infrastructure Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Using Only Link-Local Addressing Inside an IPv6 Network
	Author(s) : Michael Behringer
                          Eric Vyncke
	Filename : draft-ietf-opsec-lla-only-03.txt
	Pages : 9
	Date : 2013-02-15

Abstract:
In an IPv6 network it is possible to use only link-local addresses on

Subject: SI6 Networks IPv6 Toolkit v1.3 released!

Folks,

We are pleased to release the SI6 Networks' IPv6 Toolkit v1.3: a
security assessment and trouble-shooting toolkit for the IPv6 protocol
suite.

The toolkit is available at:
<http://www.si6networks.com/tools/ipv6toolkit>, where you can find a
the usual tarball, a PGP-signed version of it, a link to the toolkit's
GIT repository, etc.

This release has a number of features:

   * It includes a full-fledged IPv6 address scanning tool (scan6)
-- probably the only comprehensive IPv6 address scanning tool
out there. Check out all the newly incorporated features!

   * It includes support for tunnels (in most of the tools). So if
you are currently employing e.g. a free IPv6 tunnel to connect
to the IPv6 Internet, you'll now be able t play with the tools
     using your tunnel.

   * Adds features that have been in our "todo list" for a while:

+ It includes manual pages in troff format for all the tools.

+ It includes a makefile, to easily build and install the
tools, configuration file, manuals, etc., on your local
         system.

The toolkit runs on (at least) the latest versions of Linux, FreeBSD,
NetBSD, OpenBSD, and Mac OS X.

Please send any bug reports and/or feature requests to
<fgont@si6networks.com>.

As always, you can get the latest news on IPv6 security research and
tools by following us on Twitter: @SI6Networks.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Folks,

One picky point of grammar.....

In section 4.6.5 you say, "Routers, security gateways, and firewalls SHOULD=
drop IP packets containing a Stream Identifier option." However, in Sectio=
n 4.1.5 you say, "Routers, security gateways, and firewalls SHOULD NOT drop=
packets containing this [the end of options list] option."

So, how should a device behave when it receives a packet containing both? C=
learly, you want to drop the packet, but that document doesn't say that.

                                            Ron

Ron,

Great catch -- thanks!

I think S4.1.5 should be reworded to say that network devices SHOULD NOT dr=
op packets because they contain this option (may drop them for other reason=
s, like S4.6.5, even when containing a NOOP)

Thanks,

-- Carlos.

Dear OpSec WG,

Be not alarmed (I also added to "Don't Panic" to save Fernando having a =
heart attack :-))
This email was created to satisfy RFC 6702 "Promoting Compliance with =
Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)" =
(http://tools.ietf.org/rfc/rfc6702.txt).

The authors of draft-ietf-opsec-ip-options-filtering have asked for a =
Working Group Last Call. Before the Working Group Last Call ends we =
would like to check whether any claims of Intellectual Property Rights =
(IPR) on the document have not yet been disclosed.

Are you personally aware of any IPR that applies to =
draft-ietf-opsec-ip-options-filtering? If so, has this IPR been =
disclosed in compliance with IETF IPR rules?
(See RFCs 3979, 4879, 3669, and 5378 for more details.)

If you are a document author or listed contributor on this document, =
please reply to this email regardless of whether or not you are =
personally aware of any relevant IPR.=20
We might not be able to advance this document to the next stage until we =
have received a reply from each author and listed contributor.

If you are on the OpSec WG email list but are not an author or listed =
contributor for this document, you are reminded of your opportunity for =
a voluntary IPR disclosure under BCP 79. Please do not reply unless you =
want to make such a voluntary disclosure.

Online tools for filing IPR disclosures can be found at =
<http://www.ietf.org/ipr/file-disclosure>.

Thanks,
Warren Kumari
(as OpSec WG co-chair)

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the Operational Security Capabilities for IP =
Network Infrastructure Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Operational Security Considerations for IPv6 Networks
	Author(s) : Kiran Kumar Chittimaneni
                          Merike Kaeo
                          Eric Vyncke
	Filename : draft-ietf-opsec-v6-02.txt
	Pages : 40
	Date : 2013-02-24

Abstract:
Knowledge and experience on how to operate IPv4 securely is
available: whether it is the Internet or an enterprise internal
network. However, IPv6 presents some new security challenges. RFC
4942 describes the security issues in the protocol but network
managers also need a more practical, operations-minded best common
   practices.

This document analyzes the operational security issues in all places
of a network (service providers, enterprises and residential users)
and proposes technical and procedural mitigations techniques.

Hi,

In the latest draft version, Section 3.5 says:

"As a result, blocking ISATAP by preventing hosts from
successfully performing name resolution for the
aforementioned names and/or by filtering packets with
specific IPv4 destination addresses is both difficult
   and undesirable."

I would like to understand this better. In particular, the
ISATAP service is by design disabled by disabling name
resolution for the name "isatap.domainname" and/or by
disabling the ISATAP router advertisement service. Can
you say why this would be difficult and undesirable?

Thanks - Fred

Preventing name resolution is virtually impossible, since Windows nodes
not only try to perform such resolution with DNS, but also with LLMNR.
In order to block the latter, you should be able to achieve such
filtering at layer 2 -- and that would be a bit onerous (not to mention
how difficult that would be if fragmentation is employed).

Since you never know what the isata domain names may resolve to, it's
essentially impossible to block isatap packets based on a specific
destination address (you'd need to know such address in advance in order
to create the ACL).

Please do let me know if this clarification has been of any help.

Thanks,
