Dear authors,

Could you please send an email to the PCE mailing list saying whether
you are aware of any IPR that applies to draft-ietf-pce-lsp-setup-type

(See RFCs 3979, 4879, 3669 and 5378 for more details.) If you are not
aware of any IPR that applies, please reply saying "I am not aware of
any IPR that applies to this draft".

A reply is required from each of you before we can proceed.

Many thanks,

Julien

The IESG has received a request from the Path Computation Element WG (pce) to
consider the following document: - 'Experimental Codepoint Allocation for the
Path Computation Element
   communication Protocol (PCEP)'
  <draft-ietf-pce-pcep-exp-codepoints-04.txt> as Proposed Standard

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits final
comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the
ietf@ietf.org mailing lists by 2017-12-28. Exceptionally, comments may be
sent to iesg@ietf.org instead. In either case, please retain the beginning of
the Subject line to allow automated sorting.

Abstract

IANA assigns values to the Path Computation Element (PCE)
communication Protocol (PCEP) parameters (messages, objects, TLVs).
IANA established a top-level registry to contain all PCEP codepoints
   and sub-registries. This top-level registry contains sub-registries
for PCEP message, object and TLV types. The allocation policy for
each of these sub-registries is IETF Review.

This document updates RFC 5440 by changing the allocation policies
for these three registries to mark some of the code points as
   assigned for Experimental Use.

The file can be obtained via

IESG discussion can be tracked via

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Path Computation Element WG of the IETF.

Title : Conveying path setup type in PCEP messages
        Authors : Siva Sivabalan
                          Jeff Tantsura
                          Ina Minei
                          Robert Varga
                          Jon Hardwick
	Filename : draft-ietf-pce-lsp-setup-type-07.txt
	Pages : 10
	Date : 2017-12-19

Abstract:
A Path Computation Element can compute Traffic Engineering paths (TE
paths) through a network that are subject to various constraints.
Currently, TE paths are Label Switched Paths (LSPs) which are set up
using the RSVP-TE signaling protocol. However, other TE path setup
methods are possible within the PCE architecture. This document
proposes an extension to PCEP to allow support for different path
setup methods over a given PCEP session.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the Path Computation Element WG of the IETF.

Title : Conveying path setup type in PCEP messages
        Authors : Siva Sivabalan
                          Jeff Tantsura
                          Ina Minei
                          Robert Varga
                          Jon Hardwick
	Filename : draft-ietf-pce-lsp-setup-type-07.txt
	Pages : 10
	Date : 2017-12-19

Abstract:
A Path Computation Element can compute Traffic Engineering paths (TE
paths) through a network that are subject to various constraints.
Currently, TE paths are Label Switched Paths (LSPs) which are set up
using the RSVP-TE signaling protocol. However, other TE path setup
methods are possible within the PCE architecture. This document
proposes an extension to PCEP to allow support for different path
setup methods over a given PCEP session.

The Path Computation Element Communication Protocol (PCEP) provides
mechanisms for Path Computation Elements (PCEs) to perform path
computations in response to Path Computation Client (PCC) requests.

The extensions for stateful PCE provide active control of
Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Traffic Engineering Label
Switched Paths (TE LSPs) via PCEP, for a model where the PCC
delegates control over one or more locally configured LSPs to the
PCE. This document describes the creation and deletion of
PCE-initiated LSPs under the stateful PCE model.

This document is a product of the Path Computation Element Working Group of the IETF.

This is now a Proposed Standard.

STANDARDS TRACK: This document specifies an Internet Standards Track
protocol for the Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions
for improvements. Please refer to the current edition of the Official
Internet Protocol Standards (https://www.rfc-editor.org/standards) for the
standardization state and status of this protocol. Distribution of this
memo is unlimited.

This announcement is sent to the IETF-Announce and rfc-dist lists.

The Path Computation Element (PCE) provides path computation
functions in support of traffic engineering in Multiprotocol Label
Switching (MPLS) and Generalized MPLS (GMPLS) networks.

MPLS and GMPLS networks may be constructed from layered service
networks. It is advantageous for overall network efficiency to
provide end-to-end traffic engineering across multiple network layers
through a process called inter-layer traffic engineering. PCE is a
candidate solution for such requirements.

The PCE Communication Protocol (PCEP) is designed as a communication
protocol between Path Computation Clients (PCCs) and PCEs. This
document presents PCEP extensions for inter-layer traffic
engineering.

This announcement is sent to the IETF-Announce and rfc-dist lists.

fwiw, I agree with this:

[RFC3692] asserts that the existence of experimental code points
introduce no new security considerations. However, implementations
accepting experimental codepoints need to take care in how they parse
and process the messages, objects, and TLVs in case they come,
   accidentally, from another experiment.

There are a few words in https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6709#section-5
that might also be relevant. An experimental code point is in effect
a protocol extension with unknown security properties.

[[Dhruv Dhody]] We could add this text as per your suggestion - =20

   Further, an implementation
accepting experimental code points needs to consider the security
aspects of the experimental extensions. [RFC6709] provide various
design considerations for protocol extensions (including those
   designated as experimental).

Hi PCE,

This is mainly a keep-alive revision with a little housekeeping (it's amazing
how much of the referenced work has been published as RFCs in the last few
months).

Chatting with Dhruv and our recollection is that there was general support for
this work (specifically for a PCE to be able to tell a headend what traffic to
put on an LSP or SR path).

Since we have implementations "in the pipe", now would be a really good time for
the WG to think about adopting the work. Over to the chairs for a
decision/action.

Thanks,
Adrian

> The Path Computation Element (PCE) is a functional component capable
