Hi,

David is on vacation, so let me step in as AD for the moment.

I'm getting concerned with the slower and slower progress of your work =
items, to the point where I begin to question whether the WG has the =
energy left to complete the chartered work in a reasonable amount of =
time.

Please get the ball rolling again. We'd much prefer to close the WG =
after the work items are published.

Thanks,
Lars=

good to know, thanks.

(But I note that PCN isn't meeting in Prague and that IDs can be =
submitted at any time... This goes for all authors, btw.)

Hi all,

I just learned occasionally from Lars' email that PCN isn't meeting in
Prague. Really? I've not heard about that before.

I'll be there and would like to meet. I think we should meet if
sufficiently many people are there anyway, discuss remaining issues and
fix them. BTW, what are the open points? I'm not aware of them. What's
the state of the docs and what needs to be done?

Best wishes,

     Michael

Would be excellent to meet in prague (i think i'm going) and discuss how to=
 fix any issues=20

I believe the status is something like:
3-in-1 encoding
Needs decision about whether standards or experimental, otherwise done i th=
ink.
=09
Edge behaviours (CL & SM)
David H sent a 2nd batch of comments just before Christmas. I guess these n=
eed to be worked in.

Encoding comparison
Done i think, except for a few minor changes now that bob's tunnelling draf=
t is an rfc, and to reflect that only the 3-in-1 encoding is still live.=20

Signalling requirements
i put in quite a lot of comments some time ago. I guess these need to be wo=
rked in - sadly i don't have time to do the work, sorry/=20

I kind of burned out through a combination of things over the last
couple of months. I'm starting to get my energy back, so I should be
able to get moving on the edge behaviour drafts again. Some of what
David is asking for is beyond my expertise, so I'll be be submitting the
updates with "Text required" editor's notes.

It would have been nice if the WG had been consulted as to whether they
wanted a meeting in Prague or not... As far as I am aware it is up to WG
chairs to establish whether there is a need for a meeting and to act
accordingly?

Over half the energy in PCN is in Europe and so not having a meeting seems
unfortunate, especially since there was no meeting in Beijing.

ther ehad been so little activity on the list and so little response to
a call for slots last time that I did not think there was enough energy for
a session in Prague - but if folks think there is enough to talk about and
Lars can fight successfuly for a room & time lets do it

so please use the list to figure out an agenda

Scott

Scott, can you put in a room request with the secretariat tool?

Everyone: since the request is late, there is a higher-than-normal =
chance that the meeting will be on Friday. Please plan your travel =
accordingly.

Hi all

This is a strange IPR disclosure. Please note that I was not involved in

Phil,

I've had a brief glance on it. The patent claims are about mechanisms simil=
ar to PCN and Conex
(congestion marks, though seemingly excess marking only, two thresholds, co=
ngestion feedback
and traffic reduction and monitoring).

The patent was filed in November 2006.

I've checked my personal 2006 records and found that draft-briscoe-tsvwg-cl=
-architecture-04.txt
was published on 25. October 2006, meaning there have been earlier publishe=
d versions with
Bob's ideas.

The patent is linked to Ericssons RMD, which saw some publications in 2002.

Regards,

Ruediger

Indeed - this topic with supporting documents were submitted well
before November 2006 in TSVWG, so I don't understand the basis for
Ericsson's claims here.

I certainly couldn't see anything in this that was novel... One can only
presume they are trying to pull a fast one. It seems extremely worrying that
it has been granted already... Suggest the patent examiners at the European
Patent Office weren't up to their usual high standards.

There were two ayes and no nays for re-categorizing
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-pcn-3-in-1-encoding-04
as a Proposed Standard, so we will proceed along that path.

This begins a two-week WGLC for this draft, to end Monday March 14.
Please send comments to the list.

Hi Steve,

I think the status is as follows:

2 * Edge Behavior Drafts - Tom Taylor is doing some updates on these
following AD comments. I believe he is intending to send versions to the ML
with some blanks for us to fill in...

Encoding Comparison Draft - I did a minor update which Georgios should be
posting soon (I hope). The draft is rather messy but since it is purely of
historical interest (and is destined for informational) I don't want to
spend too much WG effort on improving it.

Signalling Requirements Draft - I think we are waiting to see if Georgios
will submit a new version that takes into account Phil's extensive list of
comments. It certainly needs work before it can progress anywhere.

Toby

Hi Steve, Hi Toby, Hi all

A new version of the signaling draft and encoding comparison draft will be
submitted befroe the submission deadline.

For the signaling draft I will present the updates (+/- 10 minutes), for the
encoding comparison draft, either mr or Toby can present them (we will also
need +/- 10 minutes)!

Best regards,
Georgios

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Congestion and Pre-Congestion Notification Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Pre-Congestion Notification Encoding Comparison
	Author(s) : K. Chan, et al.
	Filename : draft-ietf-pcn-encoding-comparison-04.txt
	Pages : 37
	Date : 2011-02-28

The objective of Pre-Congestion Notification (PCN) is to protect the
quality of service (QoS) of inelastic flows within a Diffserv domain.
On every link in the PCN domain, the overall rate of the PCN-traffic
is metered, and PCN-packets are appropriately marked when certain
configured rates are exceeded. Egress nodes provide decision points
with information about the PCN-marks of PCN-packets which allows them
to take decisions about whether to admit or block a new flow request,
and to terminate some already admitted flows during serious pre-
congestion.

The PCN Working Group explored a number of approaches for encoding
this pre-congestion information into the IP header. This document
provides details of all those approaches along with an explanation of
the constraints that had to be met by any solution.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-pcn-encoding-comparison-04.txt

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP at:
ftp://ftp.ietf.org/internet-drafts/

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.
