A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Routing Over Low power and Lossy networks WG of the IETF.

Title : When to use RFC 6553, 6554 and IPv6-in-IPv6
        Authors : Maria Ines Robles
                          Michael C. Richardson
                          Pascal Thubert
	Filename : draft-ietf-roll-useofrplinfo-22.txt
	Pages : 46
	Date : 2018-03-01

Abstract:
This document looks at different data flows through LLN (Low-Power
and Lossy Networks) where RPL (IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power
and Lossy Networks) is used to establish routing. The document
enumerates the cases where RFC 6553, RFC 6554 and IPv6-in-IPv6
encapsulation is required. This analysis provides the basis on which
to design efficient compression of these headers. This document
updates RFC 6553 adding a change to the RPL Option Type.
Additionally, this document updates RFC 6550 to indicate about this
change and updates RFC8138 as well to consider the new Option Type
   when RPL Option is decompressed.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Routing Over Low power and Lossy networks WG of the IETF.

Title : Asymmetric AODV-P2P-RPL in Low-Power and Lossy Networks (LLNs)
        Authors : Satish Anamalamudi
                          Mingui Zhang
                          Abdur Rashid Sangi
                          Charles E. Perkins
                          S.V.R Anand
                          Bing Liu
	Filename : draft-ietf-roll-aodv-rpl-03.txt
	Pages : 24
	Date : 2018-03-05

Abstract:
Route discovery for symmetric and asymmetric Point-to-Point (P2P)
traffic flows is a desirable feature in Low power and Lossy Networks
(LLNs). For that purpose, this document specifies a reactive P2P
route discovery mechanism for both hop-by-hop routing and source
routing: Ad Hoc On-demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV) based RPL
protocol. Paired Instances are used to construct directional paths,
in case some of the links between source and target node are
   asymmetric.

There are a lot of new changes in the draft it is surprising for me, but
seems good. Now we will need to review again. I prefer that we get some
list-discussions from the authors before editing, but it seems that they
are discussing offline, IMHO, the WG should be involved/aware when having
big editing into wg-draft.

Hello Abdussalam,

Yes, this is a big change from the previous version. The changes were
in response to WG requests, and many involved importing features from
RFC 6997 as requested.

It is my feeling that the recently submitted document needs more work
and more input from the working group before Last Call should be issued
again. I will go over the changes and next steps during the WG meeting
at IETF 101, but in the meantime your comments about the changes will be
welcome. If it is indicated, I can submit another revised version
before the actual face-to-face meeting, but that does not give time for
thorough review.

Regards,
Charlie P.

6lo, 6tisch, and lpwan WGs.
>=20
> The wireless environment for IoT/LPWAN/SmartFoo applications will cons=
ist of many *administratively independent* networks operating in the same l=
ocation and sharing unlicensed spectrum.
>=20
> This leads to a couple of discussion points:
>=20
> 1) Recent results (ours and others) have shown that protocol-level int=
eractions between networks can significantly affect performance. More gener=
ally, the community does not yet have a good sense of how to do performance=
evaluation in dense, heterogeneous wireless environments.
>=20
> 2) Because there is no administrative relationship between networks, t=
here is no obvious way for them to explicitly coordinate their use of the s=
hared channel. Can higher layer protocols contribute in some way?
>=20

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Routing Over Low power and Lossy networks WG of the IETF.

Title : Root initiated routing state in RPL
        Authors : Pascal Thubert
                          Rahul Arvind Jadhav
                          James Pylakutty
	Filename : draft-ietf-roll-dao-projection-03.txt
	Pages : 20
	Date : 2018-03-19

Abstract:
This document proposes a protocol extension to RPL that enables to
install a limited amount of centrally-computed routes in a RPL graph,
enabling loose source routing down a non-storing mode DODAG, or
transversal routes inside the DODAG. As opposed to the classical
route injection in RPL that are injected by the end devices, this
draft enables the root of the DODAG to projects the routes that are
needed on the nodes where they should be installed.

Today, at the mike, I asked about wear leveling.

The numbers in 2.1 seem to assume you do a full erase/write cycle per =
store operation.
That is not a good way to use Flash storage. Obviously, for true wear =
leveling you need a bit more flash space (and a bit more code, which =
also needs flash space), but then there already are other items that you =
want to commit to stable storage on a somewhat regular basis.

Hello all,

a couple of months ago the draft on DIS modifications [1] expired and we
are highly motivated to continue the work on these enhancements during
the next months.

To summarize, the DIS modification draft tweaks the behaviour of RPL
nodes that receive DIS messages. These extensions are backward
compatible, so that existing RPL implementations do not break.
The tweaks include:
1. control over solicited DIOs (unicast vs multiucast)
2. control over the trickle timer (reset due to inconsistency or not)
3. control over options to include in the solicited DIO

This fine-grained control over solicited DIOs inarguably can be
leveraged to limit the number of packets on the control plane and
deflate solicited DIOs by eliding the mandatory DODAG Conf. option (16
octets) in cases where the DODAG Conf. option is already distributed and
trickled down.

Our question to everyone in this group is whether there is still enough
support and interest in the WG to continue with the work?

Cheers,
Cenk

Thanks Carsten for the feedback. Yes a full erase / write cycle per store is=
not optimal... We are doing that and there was reason to do that i could no=
t recollect now.. I will reply back again with the details soon.

Thanks,

Hello ROLL,

We have updated the draft as discussed during ietf-101.
The updates are :
1. Secure versions of DCO, DCO-ACK messages added
2. Updated Appendix for explaining the message flow.

Contrary to our discussion, we are not considering adding the performance d=
ata to the appendix because the performance data is biased to implementatio=
n specific behavior that was described in my slides in IETF-101 (https://da=
tatracker.ietf.org/meeting/101/materials/slides-101-roll-sessb-roll-ietf-10=
1-v3-00 slide 181/182). Instead we have added a sample message flow explana=
tion in the appendix. Please let us know if you still think the data should=
be added.

Regards,
Rahul
