The following errata report has been submitted for RFC5261,
"An Extensible Markup Language (XML) Patch Operations Framework Utilizing XML Path Language (XPath) Selectors".

--------------------------------------
You may review the report below and at:
http://www.rfc-editor.org/errata_search.php?rfc=5261&eid=3458

--------------------------------------
Type: Technical
Reported by: Erik Wilde <dret@berkeley.edu>

Section: 8

Original Text
-------------
<!ENTITY id "id\(('&ncname;')?\)|id\(("&ncname;")?\)">

Corrected Text
--------------
<!ENTITY id "id\('&ncname;'\)|id\("&ncname;"\)">

Notes
-----
The regex in the XSD suggests that "id()" would be a valid selector for a patch, but it would not make sense to specify such a selector since it never would select a node (there's no identifier to locate in the document). This means that while "id()" is a valid XPath expression, it should not be allowed as a selector expression within an XML patch document.

Instructions:
-------------
This errata is currently posted as "Reported". If necessary, please
use "Reply All" to discuss whether it should be verified or
rejected. When a decision is reached, the verifying party (IESG)
can log in to change the status and edit the report, if necessary.

Hello Group,

In regards to TLS over MSRP.

Scenario:
There are two sessions between UE-A and UE-B, in which B chose to be
active endpoint in both the sessions (a=setup:active), of which one session
is over TLS and another is over TCP.

Two incoming connection requests will arrive at A.
What is the best approach for A to distinguish TLS request from TCP?

In case of SIP its easy as there are separate ports for TCP and TLS. so the
connection request will be identified based on the port upon which the
request arrived. But for MSRP rfc 4975 doesn't recommend a different port,
so both requests could arrive at same 2855 port.

Thanks & Regards,
Prasun Bheri

With this version, the last DISCUSSes have been cleared.

This version did add a normative reference to RFC5681 and some
discussion of TCP congestion.
Please review that and the other changes from -17.

I will wait until midweek next week to approve the draft.

The following errata report has been submitted for RFC5261,
"An Extensible Markup Language (XML) Patch Operations Framework Utilizing XML Path Language (XPath) Selectors".

--------------------------------------
You may review the report below and at:
http://www.rfc-editor.org/errata_search.php?rfc=5261&eid=3465

--------------------------------------
Type: Technical
Reported by: Erik Wilde <dret@berkeley.edu>

Section: 4.2.3

Original Text
-------------
Lastly, if the above two rules still don't apply, first all in-scope namespace prefixes of the evaluation context node are arranged alphabetically in an ascending order.

Corrected Text
--------------
n/a

Notes
-----
It is not entirely clear what "arranged alphabetically" refers to in this section. Sorting can be done in a variety of ways, and while many environment may have standard sort orders, not all are the same and for this standard to be implement consistently it's important to clearly state what sort order the above sentence is referring to. The suggested fix for this erratum is to add text that clearly states which sorting method should be used.

Instructions:
-------------
This errata is currently posted as "Reported". If necessary, please
use "Reply All" to discuss whether it should be verified or
rejected. When a decision is reached, the verifying party (IESG)
can log in to change the status and edit the report, if necessary.

The IESG has approved the following document:
- 'Multi-party Chat Using the Message Session Relay Protocol (MSRP)'
  (draft-ietf-simple-chat-18.txt) as Proposed Standard

This document is the product of the SIP for Instant Messaging and
Presence Leveraging Extensions Working Group.

The IESG contact persons are Robert Sparks and Gonzalo Camarillo.

A URL of this Internet Draft is:

Technical Summary

The Message Session Relay Protocol (MSRP) defines a mechanism for
sending instant messages within a peer-to-peer session, negotiated using
the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and the Session Description
Protocol (SDP). This document defines the necessary tools for
establishing multi-party chat sessions, or chat rooms, using MSRP.

Working Group Summary

There has been controversy about doing this work in SIMPLE. The XCON
working group was chartered to do create similar mechanisms in a media
independent fashion. There was a compromise consensus to do this draft
in SIMPLE with the idea that, with its smaller scope, it could complete
more quickly than the XCON work, and that it would be a short-term
solution until XCON completed the more general work.

This in fact did not occur, as this draft took longer than expected due
to several editor changes. Discussion at the SIMPLE meeting at IETF75
concluded that we should capture the parts of this draft were specific
about mixing MSRP at a conference bridge, but abandon the rest in favor
of XCON. However, this conclusion did not achieve consensus when brought
it to the working group list at large.

We readdressed this on the SIMPLE list in September 2010. A few
participants strongly argued that the work should be abandoned, as it
conflicted with (now substantially complete) work in XCON. But others
(including at least one implementor) argued for completion. In
particular, several people argued that this draft enabled them to build
a light weight text-chat service without requiring all the features
enabled by XCON. Note that the XCON working group has since completed
its work and closed.

In summary, the working group originally had a consensus to complete
this work, and has not achieved a consensus to change that plan.

We had agreement to pubreq version 07 in late 2010. The shepherd found
some issues during the PROTO review. The work group discussed the
substantive changes since version 07 on list, and we had a
similar consensus to pubreq version 11 without a new WGLC

The apps area review turned up some issues with the internationalization
of nicknames. The related updates, as well as a new normative dependency
on the PRECIS work, have been vetted on the SIMPLE list.

Document Quality.

The document has quite a bit of review over its lifespan in the SIMPLE
work group. It lists Eva Leppanen, Adamu Haruna, Adam Roach, Matt
Lepinski, Mary Barnes, Ben Campbell, Paul Kyzivat, Adrianv Georgescu,
and Nancy Greene as reviewers in the acknowledgments.

The document has undergone an MMUSIC expert review (Flemming Andreasen), since
it contains an SDP extension. It has been through WGLC, multiple consensus calls,
as well as an IETF last call. It has had 2 Gen-ART reviews (Christer Holmberg as Suresh Krishnan)
, as well as IANA, apps-dir (Alexey Melnikov),
tsv-dir (Cullen Jennings), and sec-dir (Vincent Roca) reviews. The
shepherd believes that all issues raised in these reviews have been resolved.

There are at least two existing implementations, "Blink" as a client and
"SylkServer" as a server. A few others have indicated the intent to
implement it. Additionally, the GSMA RCS 5.1 specification references this
document in order to use the a=chatroom attribute.

Personnel

The document shepherd for this document is Ben Campbell.

The responsible Area Director is Robert Sparks.

(as chair)

We had a WGLC on version 06 of draft-ietf-simple-simple some time (as in =
years) ago. It's been on hold since then to allow the other SIMPLE work =
to substantially complete. Since our penultimate milestone (simple-chat) =
has recently been approved by the IESG, it's time to progress =
simple-simple and complete our final chartered milestone.

The only non-trivial change between 06 and 08 was the split of the entry =
for the old msrp-acm draft into separate entries for RFC 6135 (COMEDIA =
for MSRP) and RFC 6174 (CEMA), to account for the split of that draft.

After conferring with the author and our AD, I think these changes are =
pretty obvious and not likely to be controversial. Therefore we plan to =
request publication of version 08. If anyone objects to that course of =
action, please speak up asap.

Thanks!

Ben.

Ok, I know I had years to make a comment, but anyway :-)

I would like to see references to the SIP domain certificate =
specification, as it plays a role for implementors, as well as the SIP =
certificate management service. These should be important for anyone =
building SIMPLE implementations and adds some missing pieces in the =
SIMPLE specs.

- RFC 6072 Certificate Maangement Service for Session Initiation =
Protocol
   http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6072
- RFC 5922 Domain Certificates in the Session Initiation Protocol
  http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5922

Maybe we could add a clarification for newbies that "The SIP =
subscribe/notify mechanism is not only used in SIMPLE, but also in other =
event packages outside of the scope of this document."

I could possibly also add a section about the missing interoperability =
in presence/XCAP implementations but that propably won't help this =
particular document that I find has a lot of value.

See you all at SIPit 30! Only a few days of registration open - so =
please hurry to http://www.sipit.net and register!
/O

My personal opinion is that general SIP mechanisms are out of scope for =
this draft. Otherwise, we could pull in most of the body of work of SIP. =
SIP-events is an exception, since it is core to all of the presence =
work. At most,we might considert a paragraph mentioning that many SIP =
related mechanisms can apply to SIMPLE just like any other SIP usage, =
perhaps with a ref to the hitchhiker's guide.

I agree that this wouldn't add value to this doc. Also, I think that's =
important enough of a concern to warrant its own draft :-)

(as chair)

Robert has asked us to progress this as soon as possible. I plan to go =
ahead and do that for the existing version.

That does _not_ mean we should ignore feedback, nor should we shut down =
this discussion. We will just treat any further comments and discussion =
as if they were IETF Last Call comments.

Thanks!

Ben.

Hi,

The SIMPLE working group requests publication of =
draft-ietf-simple-simple-08. The proto writeup follows:

The RFC is intended to be informational. The title header page indicates =
informational.

> (2) The IESG approval announcement includes a Document Announcement
> Write-Up. Please provide such a Document Announcement Write-Up. Recent
> examples can be found in the "Action" announcements for approved

Technical Summary

The IETF has produced many specifications related to Presence and =
Instant Messaging with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). =
Collectively, these specifications are known as SIMPLE - SIP for Instant =
Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions. This document serves as a =
guide to the SIMPLE suite of specifications. It breaks them up into =
categories and explains what each is for and how they relate to each =
other.

Working Group Summary

This document servers as a roadmap to the SIMPLE specifications. It =
introduces no technical content beyond the summaries of those =
specifications. While some of the referenced specifications had some =
degree of controversy, this draft was not controversial in itself.

Document Quality.

This document is a roadmap to other specifications, and therefore has no =
directly implementable content. The document has undergone normal =
working group review. There have been no specialized expert reviews, and =
the shepherd does not believe such reviews are needed, other than those =
normal for all documents (e.g. Gen-ART).

Personnel

The document shepherd for this document is Ben Campbell.=20

The responsible Area Director is Robert Sparks.=20

> (3) Briefly describe the review of this document that was performed by
> the Document Shepherd. If this version of the document is not ready
> for publication, please explain why the document is being forwarded to
> the IESG.

The document shepherd reviewed this document for content, structure, and =
nits. There is a single outstanding nit (an informative reference to RFC =
3265 which has been obsoleted by RFC 6665). We plan to update that =
reference along with any updates indicated by the IETF last call results =
prior to final publication.=20

The shepherd believes the document to be otherwise ready for =
publication.=20

> (4) Does the document Shepherd have any concerns about the depth or
> breadth of the reviews that have been performed? =20

The document shepherd has no concerns about the depth or breadth=20
of the reviews.=20

> (5) Do portions of the document need review from a particular or from
> broader perspective, e.g., security, operational complexity, AAA, DNS,
> DHCP, XML, or internationalization? If so, describe the review that
> took place.

The shepherd believes all aspects of this document has been sufficiently =
reviewed. There have been no specialized expert reviews, and the =
shepherd does not believe such reviews are needed.

> (6) Describe any specific concerns or issues that the Document =
Shepherd
> has with this document that the Responsible Area Director and/or the

really
> is a need for it. In any event, if the WG has discussed those issues =
and

those

The shepherd has no concerns about the document. It seems fairly =
non-controversial.

> (7) Has each author confirmed that any and all appropriate IPR
> disclosures required for full conformance with the provisions of BCP =
78
> and BCP 79 have already been filed. If not, explain why.

Author confirmation is pending at the time of submission. However, since =
the document is comprised of summaries of and references to other =
documents, the need for IPR disclosures seems unlikely.

> (8) Has an IPR disclosure been filed that references this document?
> If so, summarize any WG discussion and conclusion regarding the IPR
> disclosures.

There have been no IPR disclosures referencing this document.

> (9) How solid is the WG consensus behind this document? Does it=20
> represent the strong concurrence of a few individuals, with others
> being silent, or does the WG as a whole understand and agree with it?

As an roadmap to other SIMPLE specifications, this document originally =
had wide working group consensus. However, very little discussion has =
occurred since then. The shepherd believes that this is to be expected =
given the nature of the document as a roadmap to other work. No =
significant objections have been raised to this document.=20

> (10) Has anyone threatened an appeal or otherwise indicated extreme=20
> discontent? If so, please summarize the areas of conflict in separate
> email messages to the Responsible Area Director. (It should be in a
> separate email because this questionnaire is publicly available.)=20

No one has threatened an appeal or otherwise indicated extreme=20
discontent.=20

> (11) Identify any ID nits the Document Shepherd has found in this
> document. (See http://www.ietf.org/tools/idnits/ and the =
Internet-Drafts
> Checklist). Boilerplate checks are not enough; this check needs to be
> thorough.

The Document Shepherd believes that the document contains all needed=20
information, and that all nits are covered except for the obsolete =
reference mentioned in section (3).

> (12) Describe how the document meets any required formal review
> criteria, such as the MIB Doctor, media type, and URI type reviews.

The document has not gone through any formal review beyond routine =
working group reviews. The shepherd does not believe any such reviews =
are needed.

> (13) Have all references within this document been identified as
> either normative or informative?

All references are identified as informative.

> (14) Are there normative references to documents that are not ready =
for
> advancement or are otherwise in an unclear state? If such normative
> references exist, what is the plan for their completion?

There are no normative references. There is an informative reference to =
draft-ietf-simple-chat, which has been approved for publication by the =
IESG.

> (15) Are there downward normative references references (see RFC =
3967)?
> If so, list these downward references to support the Area Director in=20=

> the Last Call procedure.=20

There are no normative references.

not

This document does not effect the status of any existing RFC.

> reasonable name for the new registry has been suggested (see RFC =
5226).

The shepherd has extensively reviewed the IANA considerations, and =
determined that the draft makes no request of IANA, nor are any such =
requests appropriate.

(The shepherd further notes that the IANA considerations consist =
entirely of the word "None.")

> (18) List any new IANA registries that require Expert Review for =
future

> useful in selecting the IANA Experts for these new registries.

The document does not establish any new registries. (Really, it says =
"None.")

> (19) Describe reviews and automated checks performed by the Document
> Shepherd to validate sections of the document written in a formal
> language, such as XML code, BNF rules, MIB definitions, etc.

The draft contains no formal language requiring validation.

The IESG has received a request from the SIP for Instant Messaging and
Presence Leveraging Extensions WG (simple) to consider the following
document:
- 'SIMPLE made Simple: An Overview of the IETF Specifications for Instant
Messaging and Presence using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)'
  <draft-ietf-simple-simple-08.txt> as Informational RFC

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits
final comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the
ietf@ietf.org mailing lists by 2013-02-14. Exceptionally, comments may be
sent to iesg@ietf.org instead. In either case, please retain the
beginning of the Subject line to allow automated sorting.
