Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in replying to this, but I am swamped lately!

<<Guido from the RNID had requested some changes in the wording of section =
3.9. Dave indicated that he'd thought that those changes were already inco=
rporated in the -04 draft; Guido thought his comments were for -04. Guido w=
ill verify that his comments are still appropriate for the -04
draft.>>

I've looked at -04 again and can now confirm that it has still got the unch=
anged wording. So, Iin accordance with my previous messages on this issue, =
I propose we change that section to the following:

"3.9 Users with disabilities

The SPEECHSC framework must have sufficient capabilities to address the cri=
tical needs of people with disabilities. In particular, the set of requirem=
ents set forth in RFC3351 [4] MUST be taken into account by the framework. =
It is also important that implementers of SPEECHSC clients and servers be c=
ognizant that some interaction modalities of SPEECHSC may be inconvenient, =
or simply inappropriate for disabled users. Hearing-impaired individuals ma=
y find TTS of limited utility. Speech-impaired users may be unable to make =
use of ASR or SI/SV capabilities. Therefore, systems employing SPEECHSC MUS=
T provide alternative interaction modes or avoid the use of speech processi=
ng entirely."

Best regards,

Guido

Debbie is the Chair of the W3C MMI Work Group. She is soliciting =

Hi Eric,
As you may be aware, the Multimodal Interaction Working=20
Group has just published a Working Draft of EMMA,=20
(Extensible MultiModal Annotation) the follow-on to NLSML,=20
for representing user input. We're looking for feedback from
other interested parties and we'd like specifically to get some=20
feedback from the Speechsc group. Either feedback from the group=20
as a whole or feedback from individual participants would be useful.=20
What do you think would be a good way to go about this?

Best regards,

Debbie=20

Brief description of EMMA:

EMMA is designed as a data exchange format for use in representing
application specific interpretations of user input together with
annotations such as confidence scores, time stamps and input medium
etc. Speech and handwriting recognizers, natural language engines,
media interpreters, and multimodal integration components generate
EMMA markup.=20

More information about the role EMMA plays in the W3C Multimodal
Interaction Framework can be found in:
