Alec,

I know that I wasn't in the IETF meeting but I have a few questions on
the
report that you have sent. On section 4.

Q.1224 is a grey area on liaising to the IETF. Yes but any individual
from a
company or organisation registered ino a UN member country, at the IETF,
has the
right to use and read the contents of Q.1224. Formally, SG11 WP4
Questions
cannot liaise published material, only draft or recently approved
material can
be brought by the liaison/Contact person, this is an ITU-T copyright
issue.

It is up to individuals to contribute the extracts that they want to
use; whilst
compling with the copyright laws. Those individuals must belong to
organisations
who have the correct puchasing policy to use to the material. For
example, ETSI
as a member organisation uses the ITU recommendations as normative
references
and as foundational material for its standards.

This is a private interpretation, I am not a lawyer.

regards,

Ray Forbes

All,

Please find attached draft meeting notes from our meeting in Adelaide.
Special thanks to Goutam Shaw for taking them, while contributing to the
meeting.
Steve and I need to send them off to the IETF by the end of the week, so
send your comments before that.

There were 103 registered attendees.

Chairs: Steve Bellovin, Alec Brusilovsky

Agenda:

1. Agenda bashing - 5 minutes.

2. Pre-SPIRITS implementations with focus on architecture
    a. Telia/Nortel - 5 minutes.
    b. Korea Telecom - 5 minutes.
    c. NEC Corporation - 5 minutes.
    d. Lucent - Igor Faynberg - 5 minutes.

3. Progress of Implementation Document - Hui-Lan Lu - 5 minutes.

4. SPIRITS progress in ITU-T - Hui-Lan Lu - 5 minutes.

5. EURESCOM P909 findings relative to SPIRITS WG objectives - Gianni
Canal - 5 minutes.

6. What are SPIRITS architectural components? Do we know all of them?
What other
components SPIRITS needs? - Discussion on Architecture - 45 minutes. Lev
Slutsman starts it
off with a brief introduction.

7. SPIRITS Protocol requirements - protocol discussion - 25 minutes.

Alec Brusilovsky presented agenda and asked for suggestions or agenda
comments.

1. Agenda Bashing
Agenda accepted.

2. Pre-SPIRITS implementations:
 a. Nortel-Telia Service Gateway
 (draft-nyckelgard-spirits-pre-impl-01.txt)
 No questions or issues raised

 b. Korea Telecom ICW
 (draft-rhim-spirits-kticw-00.txt)
Issue: limited support for mobility, static calling number

 c. NEC implementation of ICW
 (draft-ago-spirits-icw-00.txt)
Issue: Q.1228 extensions used are: User-client identification process.
Extended CS2
 parameter.

 d. Lucent Implementation of OCC
 (draft-ietf-spirits-lucentocc-00.txt)
Issue: Firewall between the PSTN and the IP network is in reality
there, but is not
 shown on the diagram.

Summary: three pre-SPIRITS implementations utilizing SIP and one -
proprietary one, TCP/IP based.

3. Status of Informational RFC

All the internet drafts published.
Next is to compile the base material
- Introduction : compile the existing services
- Services - services description
- End of April for initial draft RFC commitment

Summary: all the internet drafts are published, next step is to compile
the base material, first draft of the RFC to be published on the mailing
list by the end of April.

4. ITU-T related issues: an update

- ITU-T recommendation Q.1231 lists PINT related IN services. Also
Q.1241 describes Q.1241
- INAP extensions are slated for IN CS-4
- SG 13 has determined an IP framework and PINT architecture
- New drafted questions are IP telephony and PINT/SPIRITS related
services
- Excerpts from SG11 docs. Can be brought into IETF
- Q.1224 is still a gray area as far as liasoning into IETF is
concerned.

5. EURESCOM P909 findings relative to SPIRITS WG objectives
(draft-canal-p909-pint-spirits-00.txt)

- EURESCOM P909 overview
- P909 example services overview
- P909 architecture and requirements overview

Issue: PARLAY Gateway is in the diagram. It is there because API
oriented approach was
adopted P909 from the beginning. PARLEY represents just one example of
implementation. The
goal of this report and the I-D is to collect and offer services
requirements to IETF
SPIRITS (and PINT).

Issue: P909 architecture is available to the public and Gianni Canal
will publish it on the
SPIRITS mailing list.

6. SPIRITS Architectural components and protocol discussion
(draft-lslutsman-spirits-interfaces-00.txt)

Issue: SPIRITS protocol is between SPIRITS client and server. Remove
CORBA from the diagram (it is not in the I-D)

Issue: SIP with possible extensions can be used as SPIRITS protocol.
There is a need for the
SPIRITS protocol requirements.

Issue: SPIRITS client cannot be classified as SCP. Remove SCP wording
from the diagram.

Issue: C interface is for registration and notification

Issue: It is possible to introduce SPIRITS client as a gateway rather
than an SCP ala Telia
architecture.

Issue: Entities B and C both can be PINT protocol. A and B both should
be doubled headed.

Issue: Do the Requirements Document To capture the business practices.

Issue: Two very important protocol requirements: interwork with INAP and
PINT. Not everything in INAP is required, just enough to interwork with
it.

Issue: Requirements RFC will be good starting point. Need to extend
milestones part of
SPIRITS Charter to include Protocol Requirements RFC. Volunteers for
editorship were asked
to talk to the WG chairs after the meeting. Igor Faynberg volunteered to
write the detail on
protocol requirements.

Issue: Include in the RFC suggestions what kind of messages need to flow
between entities.

Summary: definite need for the Requirements Document, interworking with
INAP and PINT are some of the requirements, chairs called for
volunteers, Requirements RFC to be added to the SPIRITS WG milestones
list.

Meeting adjourned

Respectfully submitted,
Steve and Alec

Hi all,

First of all, I would like to thank all who had contributed to the
Pre-SPIRITS Current Practice
Document. I appreciate your effort sharing your experiences and ideas.

I have some comments regarding the Korea Telecom's ICW Implementation.
While it is
very detailled, which helps the reader to understand the service, I think
the presented
SIP/INAP flows need further refinement.

I am not an SIP expert myself, but I can see some errors in the flows (it
may be I do not
understand them properly), like:

- wrong Cseq values,
- wrong "To" and "Via" fields in some methods,
- sending BYE methods after the connection to the internet has been
released
(in the flow where the call is accepted),
- extra BYE in the forwarded call flows where no "200, OK" was sent,
- some others (like ACK or 200,OK missing in some flows).

By the way, I have not seen anything from PINT being used ("standard" SIP
is used
instead). Is there anything from PINT protocol used?.

In regards to the INAP operations, I would suggest that they are completed.
For example:

- when it is indicated that an announcement is played, a CTR and a PA could
be added,
- before connecting the call to the destination, the announcement needs to
be stopped
(a DFC could be used for that),
- to detect a ERB a RRBE needs to be sent in advance. It would also nice to
know the
events to be monitored.

I must stress that the problems I have found in the flows are not essential
to understand
the ICW architecture presented (in fact the flows are helpful). However, I
think that
they should be correct so that anybody reading the document does not get
confused.

If you think it can be helpful, I can send a detailled list of the issues I
have. Please feel
free to contact me.

Thank you Mr. Jorge Gato for your kind comments.

I agree that some parts of it (Via, Cseq) are not clearly described, and I will
fix and resend it to the editor ( thank you again, editors).

But your mention of BYE, I think it is not sent to the disconnected Internet user
but to ICW server from SCGF for recording call completion results.
And the other regard of BYE, we change original definition of BYE and add a
function to deliver the call processing results on its body. It's one of our
intention that there may(should ?) be some changes for this 'call results
delivery mechanism' in the SPIRITS protocol. (I am not sure that the
SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY can do that or not.)

As for the reference of PINT protocol, we implemented PINT protocols that have
usage of telephone specific SDP body and SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY for Click-To-Dial
service, and apply it to the ICW implementation. So I refer it PINT. Please
comment about this term.

And other parts of INAP operations, detailed SIP messages were omitted for
highlighting only the Interworking part.

If you have further comments on it, please give us it for the original document
to be updated before June as Alec mentioned.

Thank you again Mr. Gato for the considerations.

Jinkyung Hwang

Hi Jinkyung,

Thanks for the quick answer and clarifications.

I had not noticed that the BYE after an accepted call was not sent to the
ICW Client, but just to the ICW Server (sorry), so
you are right: it can be sent. No BYE is sent to the ICW Client, but there
is no need for it, since the call has been already
released, right?.

After your explanation, now I understand why you send BYE at the end of the
call (to notify the call processing results).
I also understand that you send BYE as a response to a "303, See Other"
with this purpose (is not needed from a
SIP point of view, as far as I know).

In regards to my PINT comment, what I meant is that I was not clear which
PINT specific additions to SIP you were
using in your ICW Implementation.

Again, I would like to thank your contribution and I send you my
congratulations for your ICW work.

Members of PINT, lift your glasses!
Members of SPIRITS, lift your sniffers!

I am delighted to announce that our esteemed editor, Hui-Lan Lu, has become a
Bell Labs Fellow today. This is the highest award given in Bell Labs for
singular scientific and technical contribution (of which Hui-Lan has had a long
record, starting with Mathematical Programming and parallel algorithms,
continuing with languages and compilers, and finishing with (actually far from
finishing) Intelligent Network and Multimedia.

(Three examples of other Bell Labs Fellows are Bellovin, Thompson, and Ritchie.)

So, actually, put down your glasses, or snifters, or whatever, and get the
Champagne flutes! Let us celebrate!

Igor

I have discovered your webside on the Internet and find it
really interesting.I do believe that you or your clients may
benefit from the information we are offering.

There are a lot of people trying to get rich quick, without
any interest in another human being whatsoever. Well, I
doubt that they will succeed. There is a law in success like
there is a law in physics.

You may not believe in gravity or not know about it, but it still works.

The Law of Success says:
If you help enough people to get what they want,
You will get what You want.

Therefore, if you think, that you may gain and discover a benefit
for yourself, click on:
