Hello,
A few random notes:

- Call-ID examples always have a domain in the call id in this draft. As =
the Call-ID is just a random string, I would prefer either hostname
to follow the requirements to make it globally unique, or just a =
random string. I do not want developers to=20
believe that attaching a domain is recommended behaviour.

- Maybe some examples should include international character sets. Julia =
says

"Jag kommer, Romeo! Din sk=E5l jag dricker!"

or Romeo:

"Om jag f=E5r s=F6mnens smicker-=F6ga tro,
S=E5 b=E5dar dr=F6mmen mig en fr=F6jdfull nyhet."

This is still plain text, but not ASCII...

Table2: (But maybe this is back to core)
- Translation of r-uri to to: header thus overriding the To: header is =
something worth discussing,
if it hasn't been discussed yet. The SIP To: header is the original =
destination of the message,
and the R-uri is the current target.

Additional notes:

- A SIP MESSAGE can fork. The draft doesn't mention that, something that =
may have impact
on implementations. There's a JID on one side - but a forking address =
on the other side of this spec.
- A SIP MESSAGE can be delivered inside of a dialog and outside of a =
dialog. Inside of a dialog
is maybe out of scope for this draft, but in that case the remote =
target will be a contact address,
   maybe even a GRUU.

/O

Also in the presence draft.

Will fix throughout the document suite (the groupchat I-D has some
examples with Call-ID values that are not globally unique, such as
"711609sa").

Not knowing Swedish, I usually use Czech for my examples. :-) But you
make a good point, and I always like to include non-ASCII examples
wherever possible.

Yes, I think that belongs in the core I-D.

Hmm, and here I thought we might be able to discuss forking only in
the media I-D. But I think you're right that we need to discuss it
here, too. What specification has the best coverage of forking? Or is
this part of the "oral tradition" in the SIP community?

Forking is covered in RFC 3261. Luckily there's no "early text" or that =
kind of issues
with forking a message - you will only get one 200 OK back (as opposed =
to INVITE),
which also means you will not see how many destinations that got the =
MESSAGE.
You can not CANCEL a MESSAGE either. You may get authentication requests =
as always.

RFC 4328 states:

"When one user wishes to send an instant message to another, the
sender formulates and issues a SIP request using the new MESSAGE
method defined by this document. The Request-URI of this request
will normally be the "address of record" for the recipient of the
instant message, but it may be a device address in situations where
the client has current information about the recipient's location."

So if you have a subscription for registration information on the AOR,
you might select a contact/GRUU to send a message too.=20

It also states:

"Note that a downstream proxy could fork a MESSAGE request. If this
occurs, the forking proxy will forward one final response upstream,
even though it may receive multiple final responses. The UAC will
have no way to detect whether or not a fork occurs. Therefore the
UAC MUST NOT assume that a given final response represents the only
UAS that receives the request. For example, multiple branches of a
fork could have resulted in 2xx responses. Even though the UAC only
sees one of those responses, the request has in fact been received by
   the second device as well.
"

All of this makes MESSAGE quite a poor solution for messages you want =
kept private.
You don't know where it's sent and even if there's authentication on the =
receiving side,
anyone that gets the unauthenticated request still can access the =
message unless
of course there's S/MIME involved.=20

Well, there was a reason MSRP was developed later. ;-)

Hi,

After discussing the upcoming plan between the chairs and the authors we =
have reconsidered the Vancouver meeting. Here's the current situation.

We've made a 2 week WGLC on the -core and -presence drafts, which ends =
on October 22. The -im and -chat drafts are almost ready and another =
WGLC is previewed for both of them before October 30. We believe that an =
extended discussion is mostly needed on the -media draft and =
unfortunately the co-authors of that one won't be available in =
Vancouver. We therefore consider that a virtual interim meeting in =
December will make more sense in terms of timing and availability.

So, unless there are any objections until the end of the week we plan to =
cancel the Vancouver slot and organise a virtual meeting in December.

Regards,
Yana=

Hello,

Please note that the Vancouver meeting is now canceled. However a =
Virtual Interim Meeting will be organised in December. The meeting will =
be mainly focused on the -media draft and would aim an 1h30 extended =
discussion on all open issues.

Please use the following poll to indicate your availabilities for the =
first three weeks of December before November 11:

http://www.doodle.com/eqrnsuht8n32zfg7

Note that the purpose of the suggested hour ranges is to only indicate =
the approximate time at which the meeting will be held. Once we've =
chosen a particular day and time range we should be able to easily fix =
the exact hours. Please use the "(yes)" option to indicate your "if need =
be" or "not sure" availabilities.

A preliminary agenda will be sent to the list later on.

Regards,
Yana Stamcheva

Mind you, we've had our share of failed extensions in the XMPP commuity,
too.

Overall the document is looking good to me.

Nits:
- in section 1 it could abbreviate the XMPP Standards foundation as XSF
- section 3: "application specific connection managers" reminds me of
the terminology used by the first jabberd server. Is that clear to
   everyone else?
- there is an extra whitespace before the opening parenthesis in the
second paragraph of section 3. I'm also wondering if it would make
sense to transform the parenthesised text into a Note:
- the most recent version of XEP 0106 is from June 2007, not May 2005 as
stated in section 9.2

LGTM, with the usual nits:

- 3.2.1 Establishing
should probably mention what is established (a presence
subscription), same for the rest of the section headers, also in 3.3.

- "Upon receiving the first NOTIFY with a subscription state of
active..." -- I wanted to comment that the xmpp subscription state
should be none+out, but it's no longer clear to me whether I am assuming
too much intelligence in the gateway.

- after example 8, should the unsubscribed stana be sent when receiving
an ack for that (which is not shown)? It doesn't matter much however.

- "or, if a subscription already exists in the XMPP user's roster,
discard the subscribe request" -- I think 6121 says the server should
send subscribed without bothering the user. Simplifies the following
paragraph.

- "translating the NOTIFU" before example 20 is a typo obviously.

Sure.

Hmm. Well, some XMPP servers have supported things like connections from
SMS or SIP or HTTP or Web Services etc. That's usually been done using
code that we traditionally have called a connection manager. I'm not
sure of a better, more descriptive term.

But "protocol-specific connection managers" seems a bit better.

Noted.

Yes. I think it would be good to modify the main section headings too,
as follows:

   3. Subscriptions to Presence Information

   4. Notifications of Presence Information

   5. Requests for Presence Information

Agreed. I would hope the gateways don't need to be that smart.

Hmm, I don't know if it's necessary for the gateway to receive an ack
from the SIP users before sending the unsubscribed.

True. That's better...

In accordance with [RFC6121], the XMPP user's server MUST deliver the
presence subscription request to the XMPP user (or, if a subscription
already exists in the XMPP user's roster, send a presence stanza of
   type 'subscribed').

Indeed.

Thanks for the review!

I listened to the audio recording [1], starting around 39:30 and ending
around 47:00. Based on that discussion, Saúl took an action item to
write a message to the list describing the problem. Based on the
discussion, I think Saúl has a clearer idea of the issue here than I do. :-)

believe that we don't actually need much text here, but you and I could
work on something to propose to the list.

Hi all,

This is regarding the issue I mentioned at the meeting in Berlin to =
which Peter referred recently.

In 4575 there are 2 types of entities which kind of relate to =
participants: users and endpoints. Each user contains a list of =
endpoints. As per the RFC:

- "The <users> element is a container of <user> child elements, each
describing a single participant in the conference."

- "By including one or more <endpoint> elements under a parent <user>
element, the server can provide the desired level of detail
(including the state, media streams, and access information) about
the user's devices and signaling sessions taking part in the
   conference."

In SIP a user would be an AoR and an endpoint would be the contact or =
GRUU.

In XMPP tough, things are a bit more complicated. In the beginning I =
thought we could use the user bare JID as the <user> element and the =
occupant JID as the <endpoint>, but in practice this is not going to =
work, because the real JID is not always available in a MUC.

So, considering that, here is how I propose we proceed:

- <user> element entity is the occupant JID
- if the real JID is available, it MAY be added as a <associated-aors> =
child element of <user> (4575, sec 5.6.2) (based on local policy)
- <endpoint> entity is also the occupant JID

Neither user entity or endpoint entity is an xs:ID, so using it in both =
places doesn't invalidate the document :-)

Thoughts?

I apologize for the delay in re-reviewing the document. I originally
reviewed the -02 version and all the comments I made were addressed in the
-03. I have also reviewed the changes since the -03 and even with a single
nit identified below the document is ready to progress.

Regards,
Mary.

Nit:

- Section 5.3, 3rd paragraph, 1st sentence. This text was changed in the
-04 and there's a missing ")". I think it should be after [RFC3986]
(before the comma).
