Again, there is some rebellion among the CoRE authors about us using an
SVN-based repo for WG work.

Of course, github is great, but it means that issue tracking and the
discussion threads on these issues are kept outside the control of the IETF.

Has there been any endeavor to set up a Gitlab instance for the IETF?
Many enlightened organizations in the German academics space now have
one. (And, no, you don't have to use the for-money version; the
"community edition" is just right.)

Grüße, Carsten

If you're running a repo for IETF work, I think you need to cite the IETF=
 Note Well
in the readme. I included the following line:
This repository is for an IETF effort and falls under IETF rules: see htt=

Agreed, that would be helpful.

Folks,

This is probably a lesser exercised thing so likely just
a URL tweak, but the diff feature on the history tab for
this status change [1] gives an error. Any ideas?

Thanks,
S.

Should

https://www.ietf.org/sc/status-change-rfc1984-to-best-current-practice-00.txt

(linked from the below) work? It doesn't, either, which may be a reason
for the problem.

Yeah that's what I thought too, but I forget if the "/sc/" thing
should work or is a bad URL

Hi,

going to https://datatracker.ietf.org/secr/sreq/ right now shows:

> The Session Request Tool is currently locked. It will be unlocked on =
October 2, 2015 when the Preliminary Agenda is published.

I can see that maybe we don;t want to have people add or remove requests =
now, but it would be nice if we could still update the conflict lists...

Bug found while following a link from Wikipedia.

1. Go to https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1123#section-4.2.3.1
2. View Source.
3. Search for "section-4.2.3.1".
4. Notice only one occurrence (in TOC): '<a href="#section-4.2.3.1
<https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1123#section-4.2.3.1>">4.2.3.1</a>'.
5. Search for "4.2.3.1".
6. Third occurrence is "4.2.3.1 Sorcerer's Apprentice Syndrome", but there
is no <a name="section-4.2.3.1" id="section-4.2.3.1"> for it.

In the Table of Contents, links to pages work, but links to sections don't.

I'm OK with having only links to page numbers in the TOC, but rfcmarkup
should not be be generating an internal href that does not have a
corresponding name/id.

    -Joe

hi,

I noticed a bug on the following page:

https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-dane-openpgpkey-03

It lists the latest version as -04, but the latest version is really
-05. If you go the the -04 version it does show -05, but the -00 upto
-03 version do not show -05.

I'm not sure if that is a problem with other drafts as well.

Paul

Yes, the automatic htmlization script fails for this RFC. The formatting=

it uses diverges substantially from current RFCs with respect to indentat=
ion
of sub-sections, and I have a feeling I've tried to accommodate this styl=
e
before, but have found that it breaks conversion of other RFCs, inserting=

section anchors in places they don't belong. If I can find the time, I'l=
l
try to improve things, though.

Thanks for the report!

	Henrik

I'm going to take a stronger position than Joe. Running your own
server is wasteful. You don't need that here; a distributed version
control system means that you aren't truly beholden to github, because
the service they provide is largely limited to convenience.

There is one exception to that: issues. I have a tool that downloads
them, but they aren't especially accessible in the form that that
produces.

Joe, I think that your contacts might be better pressed into
converting issues into a git repository/branch. Then we will have a
proper distributed store of all the critical information. I've looked
several times, but I couldn't find where to register the request.

Elephant in the room: I'd like to understand how the subpoena process
works in a distributed system like this.

If you think that that is an important use case to support, it is trivial
to create a copy for the purposes of being a subpoena target. Much easier
than maintaining a copy that is required to support the whole experience.

Also, as I think more about this, installing a dedicated server would have
more negative consequences than mere waste. You also lose access to the
Github community, which would be a big loss in my experience.
